Si hay una película que este servidor quería ver desde el momento en que fue anunciado su primer tráiler es esta, la historia del rey del Rock & Roll. Porque la verdad soy muy fanático tanto de la música en general como la de él y porque la interpretación que apenas se ve de este actor, que desde ya les digo es una revelación, pintaba a ser muy buena y acertada. Hacer este tipo de películas puede ser muy arriesgado porque conseguir a un actor que logre captar toda la esencia de un personaje que fue tan único como Elvis y que de paso lo borde perfectamente es algo que muy probablemente ocurra una sola vez en la vida.

En términos generales es una película espectacularmente bien hecha, la forma en que la hicieron es como si te estuvieran contando una historia de un personaje mítico, que lo fue, pero con sus altas dosis de drama y tristeza. Pero bueno, empecemos entonces con lo que este film biográfico de unos de los cantantes más importantes de la historia de la música.

Más allá de ser la típica biografía del cantante este trama se adentra en el complicado y difícil convenio que tenía con su manejador el cual duró más de veinte largos años. Esto comienza desde la época en la que Elvis es descubierto y del como fue escalando poco a poco hasta llegar a ser la estrella del calibre mundial que llegó a ser. Como siempre pasa en estas historias también se ve un poco de los problemas familiares y personales y de la forma en como Elvis lidiaba con toda esa presión que generaba muchas cosas que ocurrían a su alrededor.
As is already quite obvious, this is the story of Elvis Presley (Austin Butler) and the relationship he had for many years with his questionable and mysterious manager, Colonel Parker (Tom Hanks). As always in these stories we also see a bit of family and personal problems and how Elvis dealt with all the pressure that generated a lot of things that happened around him.
Además hay que recordar que estamos en una época en donde Estados Unidos como sociedad estaba muy revuelta, estoy hablando de la década de los 50, principios de los 60. En aquellos tiempos el racismo era una carta que se usaba en muchos aspectos de la vida y todavía influía mucho en la manera de pensar de mucha gente, pero por que digo esto? - pues porque esto afecta directamente a Elvis dados sus inicios e influencias y la película se agarra de este hecho para mostrar una cara que quizás no muchos conocían de la carrera de Presley. Y en medio de todo esto también veremos la relación que tiene con Priscilla (Olivia DeJonge), la que fue su esposa y gran apoyo, de las personas más importantes en la vida de él.

Esta película fue dirigida por Baz Luhrmann, un director que no tiene tantos films en su haber pero lo que tiene nos demuestra que es un conocedor del estilo, de hecho fue el director de Moulin Rouge, aquella película del 2001 que nos deslumbró con bailes y amor, tal cual como lo hizo esta biopic de Elvis. Es una historia en donde lo más importante es la música, su banda sonora es brutal, cada canción y cada fondo musical fue puesto con sumo cuidado para acompañar el drama o la euforia que estábamos disfrutando en pantalla, sinceramente este detalle lo disfruté mucho porque a nosotros como espectador nos permitió conectar bastante mejor con la trama. Cada canción de Elvis con sus letras era un reflejo de las emociones y de las acciones que se estaban dando entre las actuaciones, la conexión fue muy buena, eso se aprecia mucho.
This film was directed by Baz Luhrmann, a director who does not have many films to his credit but what he has shows us that he is a connoisseur of the style, in fact he was the director of Moulin Rouge, that 2001 film that dazzled us with dances and love, just as this Elvis biopic did. It is a story where the most important thing is the music, its soundtrack is brutal, every song and every musical background was placed with great care to accompany the drama or euphoria we were enjoying on screen, sincerely I enjoyed this detail very much because it allowed us as viewers to connect much better with the plot. Each Elvis song with its lyrics was a reflection of the emotions and actions that were taking place between the performances, the connection was very good, that is much appreciated.
De los elementos que también son un gran fuerte acá es la realización. Aunque no lo parezca visualmente es una película de diez, toda la ambientación y el vestuario es algo que estuvo muy bien logrado. Toda la cinematografía y la forma en como es llevada la historia, como si fuese un cuento de algún personaje fantasioso es una cosa que por lo menos a mi me llamo mucho la atención. Toda la historia es narrada desde la perspectiva del Coronel Parker, es como si, vuelvo a repetir, le estuviera contando un cuento a unos niños sentados en circulo. Es una forma muy particular de narrar y mostrar la historia pero eso no hace que haya sido mala ni aburrida, todo lo contrario, es un film lleno de una energía que desborda.

All the cinematography and the way the story is carried, as if it were a tale of some fantasy character is something that at least to me called my attention. The whole story is narrated from the perspective of Colonel Parker, it is as if, I repeat, he were telling a story to some children sitting in a circle. It is a very particular way of narrating and showing the story but that does not make it bad or boring, on the contrary, it is a film full of energy that overflows.
Pero como es enérgica y alegre tiene sus altas porciones de drama y es que la vida de Elvis detrás de los escenarios fue una que por momentos se tornó sumamente dura y complicada. Como pasa con la mayoría de estos personajes tienen un lado oscuro que acá lo dejan ver muy claro, más allá de mostrarnos al fenómeno que era en el escenario se nos enseña la persona vulnerable y frágil que en un momento llegó a ser. Todo esto por las altas presiones a las que era sometido y por todo el contexto que lo rodeaba, uno que es explotado en esta película y es el social. Hay una carga importante de ello en la trama que yo creo que es usada como una ventana para mostrarnos lo que fue una vez, lo que sigue pasando y lo que debería de seguir ocurriendo. Como un pequeño spoiler, a Elvis lo comparaban con personas afroamericanas, algo absurdo pero real. Tendrán que ver la película para saber el por qué.

Austin Butler, este actor que está emergiendo poco a poco y que para muchos puede que sea un desconocido les puedo asegurar que después de que vean esta película no lo seguirá siendo. La manera tan increíble e impresionante en la que interpretó a Elvis es una locura, por varios momentos y lo digo totalmente en serio, parecía que estábamos viendo al verdadero Elvis reencarnado. La manera de moverse, de bailar, todos los gestos corporales, la forma en como miraba, todo era un calco. Pero lo más importante era la voz, el hecho de hablar fue algo que le llevó un poco más de un año perfeccionar y que lo consigue de una forma muy solvente.

Pero no solo hablo del aspecto físico y sus detalles, también hay que mencionar todo lo que tiene que ver con las emociones y a nivel de personalidad. Un personaje sumergido en la fama y el amor hacia sus fanáticos pero de igual forma hundido en la miseria agobiante de lo que significaba ser Elvis Presley. Un papel dramático, triste y lleno de euforia muy bien logrado, a partir de ahora hay que prestarle atención a este joven actor quien se pone a la altura de interpretaciones como la de Rami Malek y su Freddie Mercury y hasta de Taron Egerton con Elton John en Rocketman. Pero no hay que olvidar a Tom Hanks, la caracterización que se marcó con el Coronel Parker es digna de aplaudir, una persona sumamente manipuladora y codiciosa que siempre pensó en si mismo, creo que nunca le importó realmente el bienestar de Elvis, era movido en su totalidad por la avaricia. Tom Hanks es y seguirá siendo de mis actores predilectos y con este papel no hay forma de que cambie de opinión, me recordó un poco a un Viktor Navorski pero con unos cuantos años encima, solo que con toneladas de mezquindad encima.

But we must not forget Tom Hanks, the characterization he gave to Colonel Parker is to be applauded, an extremely manipulative and greedy person who always thought of himself, I think he never really cared about the welfare of Elvis, he was driven entirely by greed. Tom Hanks is and will remain one of my favorite actors and with this role there is no way I will change my mind, he reminded me a bit of a Viktor Navorski but with a few years on top, only with tons of meanness on top.
En fin, una película que en lo personal me gustó muchísimo, la disfruté de principio a fin, nunca te vas a cansar ni aburrir porque la historia no lo permite, tiene sus puntos altos y bajos en la trama pero esta bien porque es como una montaña rusa de emociones. Si que es verdad que lo que predomina es una gran melancolía porque el Rey se nos fue a los 42 años y pensar en todo lo que pudo seguir logrando si tan solo hubiese sido manejado de otra forma es de las cosas que te dejan pensando a lo largo del film y lo que deriva en una tristeza genuina.
In short, a movie that I personally liked a lot, I enjoyed it from beginning to end, you will never get tired or bored because the story does not allow it, it has its high and low points in the plot but it is fine because it is like a roller coaster of emotions. It is true that what predominates is a great melancholy because the King left us at the age of 42 and to think of all that he could have achieved if only he had been handled differently is one of the things that leave you thinking throughout the film and that leads to a genuine sadness.
9/10 porque las actuaciones, la manera en como se nos presenta la historia, la banda sonora, lo divertida y dramática que puede llagar a ser y toda la cinematografía a nivel de escena y fotografía es un completo acierto. Es un film que dura un poco más de dos horas y media pero que entretiene todo el tiempo. Les dejo el tráiler para que se animen.
9/10 because the performances, the way the story is presented, the soundtrack, how funny and dramatic it can be and all the cinematography and photography is a complete success. Como quiero ver esta película, en general he oído muy buenas críticas y aunque nunca me he sentado ha escuchar o ha leer sobre este Elvis, siento que esta película puede ser una buena forma de llegarle. Definitivamente tengo que verla.

Me gusto esta película. marcara un antes y un después en la carrera de Austin Butler. Cuanta pasión y entrega interpretando este personaje, transmitiendo emociones y abordando la figura de Elvis desde otras matices, no es imitar sus movimientos, le da un matiz mas humano al icono del rock and Roll y que todo no fue un camino de rosas. Termine odiando mas al Coronel Parker.
