Hace un par de días noté que a Netflix había llegado la segunda parte de una película que sorprendentemente no había visto en su primera entrega y viendo sus criticas y lo que la gente hablaba y escribía pues no me quedó más remedio que lanzarme el pequeño maratón de este par de films. Fueron dos películas en donde la acción es reinante y dominante de principio a fin, la primera se desarrolla en las caóticas calles de Bangladesh y la segunda en un ambiente más controlado, un edificio moderno en plena Viena. La premisa? - siempre es la misma, una o varias personas necesitan ser rescatadas de algún sitio y hay un solo hombre en el planeta capaz de hacer semejante trabajo.

A couple of days ago I noticed that Netflix had arrived the second part of a film that surprisingly I had not seen in its first installment and seeing their reviews and what people talked and wrote, I had no choice but to launch the small marathon of this pair of films. They were two films where the action is reigning and dominant from beginning to end, the first takes place in the chaotic streets of Bangladesh and the second in a more controlled environment, a modern building in the middle of Vienna. The premise? - is always the same, one or more people need to be rescued from somewhere and there is only one man on the planet capable of doing such a job.

Siento que este tipo de films son realmente hipnotizantes porque cuando te entregan esta acción tan trepidante lo hacen para que no te de tiempo de ni siquiera acomodarte en tu silla. Pero acá particularmente hay otro factor del que me di cuenta y es la forma en como fue grabada, el punto de vista que le dan al espectador tal y como si estuvieras hombro con hombro con Tyler Rake; recrea mucho las vistas de un videojuego y eso me parece impactante. Sabía lo que me iba a encontrar y no me defraudó, la verdad es que las dos películas me gustaron mucho, una más que la otra pero en realidad el combo completo es perfecto, la formula de acción incesante definitivamente no falla. Pero bueno, vayamos y hablemos un poco más de lo que son este par de producciones en donde la adrenalina está a la orden del día.

I feel that these types of films are really hypnotizing because when they give you this fast-paced action they do it so that you don't even have time to settle back in your chair. But here in particular there is another factor that I noticed and that is the way it was shot, the point of view they give the viewer as if you were standing shoulder to shoulder with Tyler Rake; it recreates a lot of the views of a video game and I find that shocking. I knew what I was going to find and I was not disappointed, the truth is that I really liked both movies, one more than the other but actually the whole combo is perfect, the formula of non-stop action definitely does not fail. But well, let's go and talk a little more about what are this pair of productions where adrenaline is the order of the day.

Como les comenté la premisa siempre será la misma, eso no va a cambiar. Tenemos a Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth), un hombre que claramente perteneció a las fuerzas especiales de su país para después convertirse en un mercenario, de lo más letales y efectivos que se pueda conocer. En la primera entrega Rake es enviado a Bangladesh para rescatar al hijo de un narcotraficante el cual fue secuestrado por su rival. Al principio todo parece salir como lo esperado pero pronto Tyler y su equipo se darán cuenta que todas las fuerzas policiales y del ejercito de la ciudad están en la mano de este otro mafioso por lo que la misión se volverá mucho más complicada de lo previsto. La exigencia y el grado de combate, pelea, disparos y explosiones es tan bestial que a nuestro invencible protagonista lo dejan casi al borde de la muerte.

As I said, the premise will always be the same, that's not going to change. We have Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth), a man who clearly belonged to the special forces of his country to later become a mercenary, one of the most lethal and effective that can be known. In the first installment Rake is sent to Bangladesh to rescue the son of a drug trafficker who was kidnapped by his rival. At first everything seems to go as expected but soon Tyler and his team will realize that all the police and army forces of the city are in the hand of this other gangster so the mission will become much more complicated than expected. The demand and the degree of combat, fighting, shooting and explosions is so brutal that our invincible protagonist is left almost on the verge of death.

Es justo acá cuando da inicio el segundo round. Tyler quedó devastado físicamente después de aquella "aventura" en Bangladesh por lo que tienen que pasar unos cuantos meses para que la recuperación sea más o menos efectiva. Digo más o menos porque llega otro trabajo, uno que le va a tocar las fibras personales a Rake y del que le será imposible decir que no por lo que le tocará un poco acelerar su recuperación. En este caso hay una familia la cual está encerrada en una cárcel de Georgia, este país de Europa del este, la cual está bajo el control de un par de pandilleros que tienen mucho poder en la zona. Tyler una vez llegue a ese lugar vivirá en sus propias carnes lo despiadados que pueden ser al punto de que la persecución traspasará fronteras, cosa que no vimos en la primera parte.

It is here that the second round begins. Tyler was physically devastated after that "adventure" in Bangladesh, so it will take a few months for the recovery to be more or less effective. I say more or less because another job arrives, one that will touch Rake's personal fibers and will be impossible for him to say no to, so he will have to speed up his recovery a bit. In this case there is a family which is locked up in a prison in Georgia, this Eastern European country, which is under the control of a couple of gangsters who have a lot of power in the area. Once Tyler arrives there, he will experience in his own flesh how ruthless they can be to the point that the persecution will cross borders, something we did not see in the first part.

Creo que hay dos elementos que son los pilares de estas películas: la acción indiscutida y el factor familia. Hablemos un poco del segundo. Rake tuvo una familia por lo que a él le toca vivir con esa depresión, tristeza y culpa de que ya no está, además de que esos sentimientos los usa como gasolina para alimentar las ganas y la mente a la hora de afrontar un trabajo. A esto hay que sumarle que en los dos casos de rescate el tema familiar es muy relevante, son extracciones de personas vulnerables los cuales están en un núcleo familiar bastante dañado y tóxico cosa que hace que el sentido de protección de Tyler aumente considerablemente ya sea por la situación en si y porque de repente ve en estas personas a la familia que ya no tiene. El resultado es que la intensidad con la que afronta todos los peligros sea máxima.

I think there are two elements that are the pillars of these films: the undisputed action and the family factor. Let's talk a little bit about the second one. Rake had a family, so he has to live with that depression, sadness and guilt that he is no longer there, and he uses those feelings as fuel to feed his will and his mind when it comes to face a job. To this we must add that in the two rescue cases the family issue is very relevant, they are extractions of vulnerable people who are in a very damaged and toxic family nucleus, which makes Tyler's sense of protection increase considerably, both because of the situation itself and because he suddenly sees in these people the family he no longer has. The result is that the intensity with which he faces all the dangers is maximum.

Ahora caigamos en lo que representa toda la acción. En la primera película, que para mi me gustó un poco más, todas las escenas fueron grabadas en las calles y casas de Bangladesh con todo el caos que eso representa. Era un asedio policial inclemente, todas las fuerzas de orden publico contra un par de personas, lo que se tradujo en que siempre hubiera una pelea o un intercambio de balas y golpes. Era algo muy parecido a estar en una guerra, lo que se vivió en aquellas calles fue caos puro y duro; helicópteros, convoys llenos de soldados, tanques, misiles, francotiradores, todo lo que se puedan imaginar. Honestamente fue un shot de adrenalina y tensión aquel film porque dentro de ese infierno había que resguardar a un niño y llevarlo a salvo a un punto en especifico.

Now let's fall into what all the action represents. In the first movie, which I liked a little better, all the scenes were shot in the streets and houses of Bangladesh with all the chaos that represents. It was an unrelenting police siege, all the forces of law and order against a couple of people, which meant that there was always a fight or an exchange of bullets and blows. It was something very similar to being in a war, what was experienced in those streets was pure chaos; helicopters, convoys full of soldiers, tanks, missiles, snipers, everything you can imagine. Honestly, that film was a shot of adrenaline and tension because in that hell you had to protect a child and take him safely to a specific point.

En esta última entrega la cosa es casi igual pero un ambiente más cerrado y en donde vemos ciertos efectos visuales que quizás no se vieron en la primera parte. Hay dos escenarios importantes, la cárcel y el edificio en Viena del que les hablé. Acá la intensidad tampoco baja, es igual o mayor y eso que estamos hablando en que todo se reduce a un espacio determinado. Igualmente hay mucho combate cuerpo a cuerpo, quizás más que en la primera parte, muchas explosiones, cohetes, balas y pare de contar. Siento que hay más maldad también porque como dije el factor familia llega para ser un motor importante en ambos bandos porque si, los códigos familiares de estos matones también cobran vida aquí. En esta entrega la historia se profundiza más y es que no es solo acción y ya está, hay una trama y un hilo que seguir el cual cada vez agarra más cuerpo.

In this last installment, things are almost the same but in a more closed environment and where we see certain visual effects that perhaps were not seen in the first part. There are two important scenarios, the prison and the building in Vienna I told you about. Here the intensity does not drop either, it is the same or higher, and we are talking about everything being reduced to a certain space. There is also a lot of hand-to-hand combat, maybe more than in the first part, a lot of explosions, rockets, bullets and so on. I feel there is more evil also because as I said the family factor comes to be an important driver in both sides because yes, the family codes of these thugs also come to life here. In this installment the story goes deeper and it's not just action and that's it, there is a plot and a thread to follow which is becoming more and more fleshed out.

Esto lo digo porque ya está confirmada la tercera parte y es que esta segunda queda abierta, queda en el aire. Idris Elba es el encargado de dejar la puerta abierta para lo que será la continuación de esta saga que siento no ha hecho tanto ruido pero que la verdad está siendo bastante buena y de calidad. Hay dos personajes que diría son los importantes acá, Chris Hemsworth y Golshifteh Farahan quien hace de Nick, la fiel compañera y miembro de este grupo selecto de personas. Ambos son extraordinarios, las escenas en donde se requiere un extra en todo lo bordan plenamente. Chris es muy bueno para este tipo de papeles y personajes, la habilidad que tiene es innegable, en ningún momento se le ve superado por las circunstancias, cuando hay que pelear y hacer escenas "largas" esas coreografías terminan resultando bastante decentes.

I say this because the third part is already confirmed and this second part remains open, it is in the air. Idris Elba is in charge of leaving the door open for what will be the continuation of this saga that I feel has not made much noise but that the truth is being quite good and of quality. There are two characters that I would say are the important ones here, Chris Hemsworth and Golshifteh Farahan who plays Nick, the faithful companion and member of this select group of people. Both are extraordinary, the scenes where an extra is required in everything they fully embroider it. Chris is very good for this type of roles and characters, the ability he has is undeniable, at no time he is overcome by the circumstances, when you have to fight and do "long" scenes those choreographies end up being quite decent.

Yo diría que como promedio entre las dos películas pudiese ser un 8/10. Como dije una es mejor que la otra, la primera no es mala pero llegó la segunda a mejorar un poco ciertas cosas. A pesar de eso no se porque pero para mi ligeramente me gustó más aquella del 2020. De todas formas son dos muy buenas películas que merecen ser vistas porque entretienen mucho y la acción y lo visual es de muy buena calidad. Las pueden encontrar en Netflix y no duran más de dos horas. Les dejo los tráileres para que le echen un ojo.

I would say that as an average between the two films could be an 8/10. As I said one is better than the other, the first one is not bad but the second one came to improve a little bit certain things. In spite of that I don't know why but for me I slightly liked the one from 2020 better. Anyway they are two very good movies that deserve to be seen because they entertain a lot and the action and visuals are of very good quality. You can find them on Netflix and they don't last more than two hours. I leave you the trailers so you can take a look at them.
