Para muchos el genero de los superhéroes tanto en el cine como a nivel de series es algo que está muy desgastado, las producciones más recientes tanto de Marvel como de DC lo confirman. Afortunadamente hay un pequeño universo muy alejado de estos donde esa regla no se cumple, es como una especie de refugio donde estos "superhéroes" todavía son bastante populares entre los espectadores. No se si por acá han visto la muy buena serie The Boys, serie que cuenta ya con tres temporadas y a la espera de la cuarta el año que viene; pues bueno, Gen V se desarrolla dentro de este mundo en donde los que se suponen que tienen que proteger a las personas resultan que están igual o hasta más dañados que un villano promedio.

For many the superhero genre both in movies and series is something that is very worn out, the most recent productions of both Marvel and DC confirm it. Fortunately there is a small universe far away from these where this rule is not fulfilled, it is like a kind of refuge where these "superheroes" are still quite popular among viewers. I don't know if you have seen the very good series The Boys, a series that already has three seasons and is waiting for the fourth one next year; well, Gen V takes place in this world where those who are supposed to protect people turn out to be equally or even more damaged than the average villain.

La premisa de Gen V al igual que la de The Boys es simple: salirse de lo convencional para convertirse en un show en donde lo absurdo, gráfico y sangriento cobre vida y sean los protagonistas principales. Porque si, estamos ante una serie en donde las explosiones de extremidades, los desnudos y lo muy sugerente están a la orden del día. No es la típica serie en donde los buenos salvan a los malos, no va de eso, es una apuesta mucho más arriesgada la cual para felicidad de muchos ha funcionado bastante bien a lo largo de los años. Pensé que Gen V sería más suave o tendría otro tono por ser mucho más jóvenes sus protagonistas pero nada que ver, el ADN es el mismo. Así que bueno, hablemos un poco de esta gran serie.

The premise of Gen V, like that of The Boys, is simple: to break away from the conventional to become a show where the absurd, graphic and bloody come to life and are the main protagonists. Because yes, this is a series where explosions of limbs, nudity and the very suggestive are the order of the day. It's not the typical series where the good guys save the bad guys, it's not about that, it's a much riskier bet which to the happiness of many has worked quite well over the years. I thought Gen V would be softer or would have a different tone because the main characters are much younger, but nothing to do with it, the DNA is the same. So let's talk a little bit about this great series.

Por si no lo saben esta serie es un Spin-Off de The Boys. Se sitúa en la universidad Godokin la cual es la única en Estados Unidos expresamente para superhéroes. En ella conoceremos a varios de estos estudiantes que aspiran a ser algún día parte de la elite de los Seven, lo cual es el grupo selecto de héroes escogidos por Vought International. El tema es que al ser jóvenes veremos como es esa formación que al final del día es otra forma más de corromper a estos seres a de ser la cara de un grupo de "superhéroes" increíblemente rotos mentalmente. En el camino también seremos testigos de como la competitividad por llegar a lo más alto los va consumiendo poco a poco al punto de llegar al limite tanto física como moralmente.

In case you don't know, this series is a spin-off of The Boys. It is set in the Godokin University which is the only one in the United States specifically for superheroes. In it we will meet several of these students who aspire to someday be part of the elite Seven, which is the select group of heroes chosen by Vought International. The point is that as young people we will see how this training is that at the end of the day is just another way to corrupt these beings to be the face of a group of "superheroes" incredibly broken mentally. Along the way we will also witness how the competitiveness to reach the top is consuming them little by little to the point of reaching the limit both physically and morally.

Evidentemente las hormonas harán de las suyas y es que parte de la trama se arropa un poco en eso, en como unos jóvenes son capaces de lidiar con tanta presión al punto que los escapes sexuales también darán de que hablar. A medida que la trama va avanzando muchos secretos comenzarán a salir a luz y se darán cuenta que todo lo que brilla no es oro, de que detrás de todo hay plan en desarrollo que puede poner en riesgo la existencia de más de uno. Acá es cuando comenzaremos a ver la verdaderas capacidades de todos estos jóvenes y del inmenso poder que pueden llegar a tener pasando por situaciones aberrantes, sangrientas y bastante fuera de lo común.

Evidently, hormones will play their part and part of the plot is based on that, on how some young people are able to deal with so much pressure to the point that sexual escapades will also be talked about. As the plot progresses many secrets will begin to come to light and they will realize that all that glitters is not gold, that behind everything there is a plan in development that can jeopardize the existence of more than one. This is when we will begin to see the true capabilities of all these young people and the immense power they can have, going through aberrant, bloody and quite out of the ordinary situations.

Tengo entendido que la clasificación de esta serie es C por lo que ya se podrán hacer una idea de todo lo que trae y lo que se ve. Visualmente es impresionante, la forma en como manejan todos los efectos es de locos, como pocas veces se ve, el realismo es muy bueno y es de los puntos duros de la serie. Es extremadamente grafica en todos los sentidos, tanto a nivel de gore como sexual, tampoco estamos ante una película triple X pero como ya he dicho se sale mucho de lo convencional. Ver partes del cuerpo volar, explotar, ser desmembradas y todo eso convertirse a litros de sangre y viseras es algo para mi muy top, personalmente disfruto mucho este contenido porque es difícil y raro de conseguir.

I understand that the rating of this series is C, so you can already get an idea of what it brings and what it looks like. Visually it is impressive, the way they handle all the effects is crazy, as rarely seen, the realism is very good and is one of the hard points of the series. It is extremely graphic in every way, both at the level of gore and sexual, we are not facing a triple X movie but as I said it is very out of the conventional. Seeing body parts fly, explode, be dismembered and all of that turned into liters of blood and visors is something for me very top, I personally enjoy this content because it is difficult and rare to get.

Gen V es un preámbulo de lo que será la cuarta temporada de The Boys por lo que sus historias parecen que se unirán en algún punto, de hecho acá se ve un poco de eso. Para entender esta serie no es obligatorio a ver visto The Boys pero si te lo recomendaría porque hay varias referencias a cosas pasadas. La trama es sencilla, hay un trasfondo que poco a poco se va descubriendo, hay secretos que se van a ir revelando lo que dará pie, en cierta medida, a la cuarta temporada en cuestión. Hay muchos cuestionamientos morales, psicológicos, la historia no es solo sangre y ya, cada personaje es un universo de problemas y traumas que como pueden los van resolviendo y mientras tanto aprendiendo a vivir con ellos tratando de hacer el menor daño posible.

Gen V is a prequel to what will be the fourth season of The Boys so their stories seem to come together at some point, in fact here we see a bit of that. To understand this series it is not mandatory to have seen The Boys but I would recommend it because there are several references to things past. The plot is simple, there is a background that is gradually uncovered, there are secrets that will be revealed which will lead, to some extent, to the fourth season in question. There are many moral and psychological questions, the story is not just blood and that's it, each character is a universe of problems and traumas that they are solving as they can and meanwhile learning to live with them trying to do the least possible harm.

Los personajes son sin dudas el valor agregado acá. Como mencioné, todos y cada uno de ellos tienen un problema existencial con los que tendrán que lidiar. Por lo general son traumas de su pasado que no están resueltos y eso ha hecho que sean las personas "inestables" que son hoy en día. Emma, Marie Moreau, Cate, Jordan y Andre (Lizze Broadway, Jaz Sinclair, Maddie Phillips, Derek Lu y Chance Perdomo) son los protagonistas. Hay que decir que todos lo hacen perfectamente, cada uno tiene un poder único que va asociado a los traumas que tienen, es decir, dichos poderes forjaron un poco las personalidades y problemas de todos ellos. Hablar de cada uno sería muy tedioso pero quédense con que son personajes complejos al mismo tiempo volátiles y superficiales.

The characters are undoubtedly the added value here. As I mentioned, each and every one of them has an existential problem that they will have to deal with. They are usually traumas from their past that are unresolved and that has made them the "unstable" people they are today. Emma, Marie Moreau, Cate, Jordan and Andre (Lizze Broadway, Jaz Sinclair, Maddie Phillips, Derek Lu and Chance Perdomo) are the main characters. It must be said that they all do it perfectly, each one has a unique power that is associated with the traumas they have, that is, those powers forged a little bit the personalities and problems of all of them. It would be very tedious to talk about each one of them, but let's just say that they are complex, volatile and superficial characters at the same time.

Una gran serie a la que le doy un 9/10. Si The Boys es casi un 10 esta no se puede quedar atrás. Es verdad que todavía no le llega a su hermana mayor creo que puede ir por buen camino para hacerlo. Fue una muy buena presentación de este ahora ampliado universo. Está disponible en Prime Video y consta de 8 episodios. Muy recomendada a todos, es imperdible. Les dejo el tráiler por acá abajo.

A great series to which I give a 9/10. If The Boys is almost a 10 this one can not be left behind. It's true that it still doesn't reach its big sister I think it can be on the right way to do it. It was a very good introduction to this now expanded universe. It is available on Prime Video and consists of 8 episodes. Highly recommended to everyone, it's a must see. I leave the trailer below.
