Si hay franquicias poderosas en el mundo sin dudas tendríamos que hablar de Misión Imposible con el intrépido Ethan Hunt, de todas las películas del agente del MI6, el 007 y mira porque no, hasta de Rápido y Furioso y es que si ya viste esta película nueva de Gal Gadot te darás cuenta que hay un artefacto bastante parecido dentro de esta trama que también es manejado por Toretto y compañía. La cosa acá es que si quieres destacar, innovar, buscar crear un feudo solido y convincente tienes que arriesgarte y no agarrar un poco de cada cosa y crear una especie de hibrido de algo que ya existe. Creo que hasta el más novato sabe eso pero parece que Tom Harper no.

I think even the most novice knows that but it seems that Tom Harper does not.

Heart of Stone es una película de espías, de agentes encubiertos, de amenazas mundiales y de personas hambrientas de poder, una formula usada infinitas veces en el cine pero siempre con algo novedoso o por lo menos algunos lo intentan. Yo sabía a lo que iba en el momento que le di play al film, mi única motivación era Gal Gadot, no voy a mentir, quería ver si el papel de agente secreto se le daba tan bien como el de ser La Mujer Maravilla y bueno, casi casi. A ella la vemos hacer lo impensado muchas veces, saltar de aquí a allá, esquivar balas, manejar todo tipo de medio de transporte, disparar y pelear; todo lo hace muy bien, lo lastimoso es la trama. Pero bueno, hablemos un poco entonces de lo nuevo de Netflix.

Heart of Stone is a movie about spies, undercover agents, global threats and people hungry for power, a formula used infinite times in cinema but always with something new or at least some try. I knew what I was going for the moment I hit play on the film, my only motivation was Gal Gadot, I'm not going to lie, I wanted to see if the role of a secret agent was as good as Wonder Woman and well, almost almost. We see her do the unthinkable many times, jumping from here to there, dodging bullets, driving all kinds of transportation, shooting and fighting; she does it all very well, the pitiful thing is the plot. But well, let's talk a bit then about the new from Netflix.

Esto comienza con Rachel Stone (Gal Gadot), una agente que pertenece a una organización secreta cuya finalidad es mantener el orden y el equilibrio mundial a punta de una tecnología increíblemente avanzada y sofisticada. Al ser tan poderosa es pieza de deseo de cualquier persona con un mínimo de recursos y habilidades para entonces ponerle las manos encima y así poder controlar cada operación que se haga a lo largo del planeta por más insignificante que sea, de ahí que se convierta en un arma de doble filo. Entre tanto hay misiones que hacer y villanos que atrapar, como siempre, y para eso se ayudará de un equipo quienes entre esos está Parker (Jamie Dornan) junto a dos agentes más.

This begins with Rachel Stone (Gal Gadot), an agent who belongs to a secret organization whose purpose is to maintain world order and balance at the tip of an incredibly advanced and sophisticated technology. Being so powerful, she is a piece of desire of anyone with a minimum of resources and skills to then get their hands on it and thus be able to control every operation that is done across the planet no matter how insignificant it is, hence it becomes a double-edged sword. Meanwhile there are missions to do and villains to catch, as always, and for that he will be helped by a team who among those is Parker (Jamie Dornan) along with two other agents.

Entonces sucede lo inesperado y es que aparece una escurridiza hacker, Keya, (Alia Bhatt) quien amenaza con desenmascarar a esta organización y exponer todo lo que sea necesario. Evidentemente esto pone en jaque a todos lo involucrados por lo que se ponen en alerta máxima y da inicio a una persecución a lo largo del mundo con la finalidad de dar con el paradero de esta persona y de todas aquellas que la estén ayudando. Es a partir de acá cuando empezamos a ver toda la acción de la película, la intriga, la trama que hay detrás del espionaje de Stone y poco más. Siento que no es una película top porque hubo cosas que no me terminaron de convencer, hubo cosas sin contar, asumo que todo será un plan a futuro pero de momento para mi fue solo entretenimiento simple e inconcluso.

Then the unexpected happens and an elusive hacker, Keya, (Alia Bhatt) appears and threatens to unmask this organization and expose all that is necessary. Evidently this puts everyone involved in check so they are put on high alert and begins a chase throughout the world in order to find the whereabouts of this person and all those who are helping her. It is from here that we start to see all the action of the film, the intrigue, the plot behind Stone's espionage and little else. I feel that it is not a top movie because there were things that did not convince me, there were things that were not told, I assume that everything will be a plan for the future but for the moment for me it was just simple and inconclusive entertainment.

Inconcluso por que? - a lo largo del film hay muchos cabos sueltos, situaciones que quedan en el aire, que nunca se explican, trasfondos de personajes que hacen que sean planos, es decir, falta demasiado contexto en muchas situaciones del film lo que a mi juicio le quita profundidad y muchas veces interés. El detalle es el por que lo hacen y creo tener la repuesta. Como digo en el titulo lo que busca Netflix es fundar una franquicia, de hecho la película da entender que tendrá segunda parte, por lo que no se molestan en explica varias cosas en esta primera entrega, quieren que todo quede relativamente abierto para, imagino yo, dar más información y la profundidad que en este film faltó. Esto no es algo malo, pero a veces funciona, otras veces no.

Inconclusive because? - Throughout the film there are many loose ends, situations that are left in the air, that are never explained, character backgrounds that make them flat, that is, there is too much context missing in many situations of the film which in my opinion takes away depth and many times interest. The detail is why they do it and I think I have the answer. As I say in the title what Netflix is looking for is to found a franchise, in fact the film implies that it will have a second part, so they do not bother to explain several things in this first installment, they want everything to be relatively open to, I imagine, give more information and depth that this film lacked. This is not a bad thing, but sometimes it works, sometimes not.

A nivel de efectos pues la mayoría de ellos son producidos digitalmente, en algunos casos se nota en demasía eso, pero no al punto de molestar mucho a la vista. Hay un par de escenas que si me generaron fruncir el ceño, Stone en el paracaídas o en el globo aerostático por ejemplo, pero bueno, es una producción de Netflix, ya sabemos como son. También decir que no todo es malo, me gustaron las persecuciones por las ciudades, las escenas de pelea y combate cuerpo a cuerpo, intercambios de disparos, etc. Al final siento que hay una especie de equilibrio entre ambas cosas que hace que se complementen, no todo es bueno pero tampoco todo es terrorífico.

In terms of effects, most of them are digitally produced, in some cases it is too noticeable, but not to the point of disturbing the eye. There are a couple of scenes that made me frown, Stone in the parachute or in the hot air balloon for example, but hey, it's a Netflix production, we know how they are. Also say that not everything is bad, I liked the chases through the cities, the fight scenes and melee, exchanges of gunfire, etc.. In the end I feel there is a kind of balance between the two that makes them complement each other, not everything is good but not everything is terrifying either.

Al estar todo contado como a medias la trama para mi es corta, se queda en el camino y pierde fuerza al no saber más de lo que quisiéramos. A esto hay que sumarle que los personajes son totalmente intrascendentes, no existe conexión con ninguno, ni siquiera con la propia causa de la organización, con nada, todo es muy vacío. La esencia de un buen villano es que llegue a producir algún sentimiento de rabia o malestar en cierto momento de la película, que su actuación o el motivo por el que actúa así traspase la pantalla; pues en este caso nada de eso sucede, el "malo de la película" para mi es nulo. Y como él todos los personajes secundarios, lamentablemente.

As everything is told as half told, the plot for me is short, it falls by the wayside and loses strength as we don't know more than we would like. To this we must add that the characters are totally inconsequential, there is no connection with any of them, not even with the cause of the organization itself, with nothing, everything is very empty. The essence of a good villain is to produce some feeling of anger or discomfort at a certain point in the film, that his performance or the reason why he acts so transcends the screen; well, in this case none of that happens, the "bad guy of the movie" for me is null. And like him all the secondary characters, unfortunately.

A Gal Gadot me costó verla de espía a pesar de que se mueve bien, todas las escenas de acción y pelea las desarrolla bien, se le ve suelta y ágil pero hubo un algo que no me terminó de convencer. Hablar de la actuación en si, de la interpretación, no sirve de nada porque no es una película para medir eso. A fin de cuenta me gusta Gal Gadot, hace lo necesario para mantener a flote el film pero hasta allí. Como dije, no hay más nada destacable. Todos los demás son muy planos y prescindibles, te olvidas de ellos a los cinco minutos que los ves en pantalla. De hecho se busca crear unas conexiones sentimentales pero para mi surten efecto, las vi forzadas.

I had a hard time seeing Gal Gadot as a spy even though she moves well, all the action and fight scenes are well developed, she looks loose and agile but there was something that did not convince me. Talking about the acting itself, the performance, is useless because it is not a movie to measure that. At the end of the day I like Gal Gadot, she does what she needs to do to keep the film afloat but that's as far as it goes. Like I said, there's nothing else of note. Everyone else is very flat and expendable, you forget about them within five minutes of seeing them on screen. In fact, it tries to create some sentimental connections but for me they are not effective, I saw them forced.

6/10 y capaz estoy siendo un poco generoso. La película funciona si quieres pasar el tiempo, tiene acción, espionaje, intriga, lo necesario para que pases las poco más de dos horas que dura el film sentado con unas cotufas. Pero eso si, no esperes nada extraordinario, no lo vas a conseguir. Ya saben que está en Netflix y por acá les dejo el tráiler.

6/10 and maybe I'm being a bit generous. The movie works if you want to pass the time, it has action, espionage, intrigue, the necessary for you to spend the little more than two hours that the film lasts sitting with some popcorn. But don't expect anything extraordinary, you're not going to get it. You already know it's on Netflix and here's the trailer.
