Muchas veces cuando buscamos que queremos ver es posible que hayan días en los que no nos apetezca ver nada extraordinario, uno de esos grandes títulos que están en el cine o dando de que hablar por sus diferentes criticas; hay veces que solamente queremos ver algo distinto o simplemente probar ver algo que generalmente uno no vería. En mi caso son las comedias románticas, siento que fueron una parte importante de Hollywood por allá en los noventas y principios de los 2000 pero ya no lo son tanto, han bajado mucho sus producciones por lo que ver una en estos tiempos pudiera ser interesante, de hecho lo fue.

Many times when we look for what we want to see, it is possible that there are days when we do not want to see anything extraordinary, one of those great titles that are in the movies or giving to talk about their different reviews; there are times when we just want to see something different or just try to see something that usually one would not see. In my case it's romantic comedies, I feel they were an important part of Hollywood back in the nineties and early 2000's but they are not so much anymore, their productions have dropped a lot so seeing one in these times could be interesting, in fact it was.

Jennifer Lawrence es una actriz de la que no se habla mucho en la industria o por lo menos así lo siento yo, hasta que llega y hace un papel como este. Cuando en el titulo hablo de una comedia incomoda no lo digo en el sentido de que la película sea insufrible de ver, me refiero a que la situación central de la misma es de por si rara, embarazosa y esto lo que origina es que, por alguna extraña razón, termine siendo como menos interesante y obviamente graciosa. Es una comedia para adultos en donde veremos a una Jennifer ser lo más explicita que se pueda ser siendo esto uno de los ganchos y atractivos del film que va da le mano con todo el contexto de la película. Así que bueno, sin más que decir vamos y hablemos un poco de esta nueva apuesta de comedia.

Jennifer Lawrence is an actress who is not much talked about in the industry, or at least that's how I feel, until she comes along and plays a role like this one. When I talk about an uncomfortable comedy in the title, I don't mean that the movie is unbearable to watch, I mean that the central situation of the movie is in itself weird, embarrassing and this is what makes it, for some strange reason, ends up being less interesting and obviously funny. It is a comedy for adults where we will see Jennifer being as explicit as she can be, this being one of the hooks and attractions of the film that goes hand in hand with the whole context of the film. So, without further ado, let's go and talk a little bit about this new comedy.

El eje central de esta historia es Maddie (Jennifer Lawrence), una mujer que tal parece no es la que mejores decisiones ha tomado en su vida y esas consecuencias la están alcanzando en su actualidad. Con deudas hasta el techo, con el embargo de su carro, el cual es su fuente de trabajo y sin tener a nadie a quien recurrir se ve en la obligación de aceptar un trabajo un tanto particular e inusual. Resulta que un matrimonio de mucho dinero tienen un hijo, Percy (Andrew Barth Feldman), el cual es un poco tímido, no tiene amigos en la vida real, no sale de su casa, no toma ni sale a fiestas. Esto ha prendido las alarmas de sus controladores padres ya que sienten que cuando vaya a la universidad no va a sobrevivir ni un día por lo que buscan soluciones desesperadas.

The central axis of this story is Maddie (Jennifer Lawrence), a woman who seems not to be the one who has made the best decisions in her life and those consequences are catching up with her today. Up to her eyeballs in debt, with the repossession of her car, which is her source of employment, and with no one to turn to, she is forced to take a somewhat unusual job. It turns out that a wealthy married couple have a son, Percy (Andrew Barth Feldman), who is a bit shy, has no friends in real life, doesn't leave his house, doesn't drink and doesn't go out to parties. This has set off alarm bells for his controlling parents who feel that when he goes to college he won't survive a day, so they are looking for desperate solutions.

Es acá donde entra Maddie. Basicamente lo que tiene que hacer es que Percy se haga más social y que logre pasar una noche con ella, entendiendo lo que eso significa. A partir de acá es cuando la película comienza a desarrollarse y veremos todo lo que Maddie tiene que hacer y todas las situaciones que se generan para que Percy pueda salir de la burbuja en la que sus padres lo metieron. Como dije la situación en si es bastante lamentable, todo está mal desde donde lo veas, es complicado concebir que unos padres tengan la osadía o atrevimiento de buscarle ese tipo de "soluciones" a su hijo. La realidad es que Percy es simplemente un joven de 19 años como cualquier otro que poco a poco le tocará ir descubriendo lo que es la vida por si solo.

This is where Maddie comes in. Basically what she has to do is that Percy becomes more social and that he manages to spend a night with her, understanding what that means. From here is when the movie starts to develop and we will see everything that Maddie has to do and all the situations that are generated so that Percy can get out of the bubble in which his parents put him. As I said the situation itself is quite regrettable, everything is wrong from wherever you look at it, it is difficult to conceive that parents have the audacity or daring to look for that kind of "solutions" for their son. The reality is that Percy is simply a 19 year old young man like any other that little by little will discover what life is like on his own.

Este tipo de film es de los más banales que hay por que todos sus elementos son eso, los típicos que vemos en este tipo de películas: las escenas y situaciones graciosas pero incomodas que se dan por la mera interacción de los personajes, el nivel sexual que hay, que al final es lo que vende pero que por lo menos aquí es llevado como si eso fuera el objetivo final cuando en estas películas por lo general es lo más sencillo de conseguir. Una comedia romántica se basa, la mayoría de la veces, en los sentimientos y de como potenciarlos pasando por situaciones absurdas; en este film es todo lo contrario, son las mismas situaciones absurdas pero con otro fin y dejando, en teoría, los sentimientos a un lado.

This type of film is one of the most banal there is because all its elements are just that, the typical ones we see in this type of films: the funny but uncomfortable scenes and situations that occur by the mere interaction of the characters, the sexual level that there is, which in the end is what sells but at least here is taken as if that were the ultimate goal when in these films is usually the easiest thing to achieve. A romantic comedy is based, most of the time, on feelings and how to enhance them by going through absurd situations; in this film it is the opposite, it is the same absurd situations but with another purpose and leaving, in theory, feelings aside.

Es por esto que esta producción a mi me parece muy cool porque a nivel de historia no es lo típico a pesar de que sus elementos están. Si hay una palabra con la que pudiera describir ciertas cosas que vemos sería "bizarra" y es que si, todo a veces se vuelve tan caótico que por pequeños momentos uno se pregunta, que hago viendo esto? pero tres segundos después te estás riendo, entonces uno ahí es cuando entiende que dentro de lo extrañamente rara que es la película tiene su encanto que hace que la termines de ver sin problemas. Y es que no todo es terminar en la cama del otro, el trasfondo del film es sencillo pero efectivo.

That's why this production seems very cool to me because at a story level it's not typical even though its elements are there. If there is a word that could describe certain things we see it would be "bizarre" and yes, everything sometimes becomes so chaotic that for small moments you wonder, what am I doing watching this? but three seconds later you're laughing, then you understand that within the strangely strange that the film has its charm that makes you finish watching it without problems. And it's not all about ending up in each other's beds, the film's background is simple but effective.

Es una historia que nos invita a que nunca es tarde para madurar, para tomar las decisiones correctas y para tomar distintos caminos si eso significa crecimiento personal y mejoras en nuestras vidas. La vida de Maddie siempre ha sido llevada por miedos a los cambios y el afrontar nuevos horizontes, al estar siempre en una zona de confort esto ha hecho que su superación haya tardado más de lo que ella hubiese querido. Por su parte Percy siempre estuvo bajo las alas de sus padres lo que nunca le permitió experimentar el fracaso ni los aciertos de la vida ya que al final la vida es precisamente eso, experiencias. Así que no todo es lo explicito ni gracioso en este film, también hay una cuota profunda y de introspección importante.

It is a story that invites us that it is never too late to grow up, to make the right decisions and to take different paths if that means personal growth and improvements in our lives. Maddie's life has always been driven by fears of change and facing new horizons, being always in a comfort zone has made her overcoming this has taken longer than she would have liked. Percy, on the other hand, was always under the wings of his parents, which never allowed him to experience failure or the successes of life, since in the end life is precisely that, experiences. So not everything is explicit and funny in this film, there is also an important quota of depth and introspection.

Lo que hace Jennifer Lawrence acá es muy bueno, siento que es un papel en donde era fácil quedar mal y por el contrario ella logra salir muy airosa. Además de que tiene una gracia y carisma innata, siempre se ve bien en cámara y es muy natural al actuar. Es un personaje el cual no se si fue un reto para ella pero por lo visto en algunas escenas diría que si, hay una escena en la playa de noche que la verdad no me esperaba ver, super hilarante y demás interesante. Sin dudas ella es lo mejor del film. La química que les noté a los dos es buena, siento que si esto fue vital para que todo se viera bien y cómico, como ya dije, era muy fácil que todo terminara dando cringe. Creo yo que no fue el caso.

What Jennifer Lawrence does here is very good, I feel that it is a role where it was easy to look bad and on the contrary she manages to come out very well. Besides that she has an innate grace and charisma, she always looks good on camera and is very natural when acting. It's a character which I don't know if it was a challenge for her but from what I've seen in some scenes I would say yes, there is a scene on the beach at night that I really didn't expect to see, super hilarious and interesting. Without a doubt she is the best of the film. The chemistry I noticed between the two of them is good, I feel that if this was vital for everything to look good and funny, as I said, it was very easy for everything to end up giving cringe. I don't think that was the case.

Un 7/10, es una película perfecta para pasar el rato, solo eso. Te vas a reír, te vas a sentir incomodo y lo más importante, no te vas a aburrir. Puede que te cuestiones la decisión de haberla empezado a ver pero después se te pasa. Dura un poco más de hora y media. Les dejo el tráiler por acá.

A 7/10, it's a perfect movie to pass the time, just that. You'll laugh, you'll feel uncomfortable and most importantly, you won't get bored. You may question your decision to start watching it, but then you'll get over it. It lasts a little over an hour and a half. I leave the trailer here.
