Generalmente cuando veo películas "viejas" no acostumbro a traerlas a este espacio para la respectiva reseña pero el día de ayer me encontré este film de Nicolas Cage y quise ver y confirmar si seguía siendo cierta esa teoría o pensamiento de la gente de que casi todas las películas de este actor son realmente malas. Yo tengo que confesar que no es de mi actores favoritos ni mucho menos pero afirmar eso puede que sea un poco exagerado, de hecho puede que haya un par por allí que no entren en esa lista, La Roca y Contracara puede que se salven del destino de ser catalogadas como las terribles películas de Nicolas Cage.

Generally when I see "old" movies I don't usually bring them to this space for the respective review but yesterday I found this Nicolas Cage film and I wanted to see and confirm if it was still true that theory or people's thought that almost all of this actor's movies are really bad. I have to confess that he is not one of my favorite actors by far but to say that might be a bit of an exaggeration, in fact there might be a couple out there that don't make that list, The Rock and Contracara might be saved from the fate of being labeled as terrible Nicolas Cage movies.

Pero, son difíciles de ver en realidad esos films o es que Cage es mal actor? - no creo que sea mal actor y la razón de eso es casualmente esta película que les traigo hoy. Hay que decir que este titulo es del año pasado, de ahí a que llame "vieja" pero por alguna razón nunca le llegué a ver hasta ayer en la noche. Es una trama muy conocida, de hecho se puede parecer a un par de títulos que hay por ahí pero tiene algo especial, que no todo es lo que parece. A medida que la historia va avanzando vas descubriendo cosas que te van a cambiar la perspectiva y la visión de lo que hasta ahora habías visto y es como si comenzaras a ver una película nueva. No si será la mejor de Cage pero esta no me desagradó del todo así que sin más hablemos un poco sobre esta curiosa historia...

It must be said that this title is from last year, hence why I call it "old" but for some reason I never got to see it until last night. It is a very well known plot, in fact it may resemble a couple of titles out there but it has something special, that not everything is what it seems. As the story progresses you discover things that will change your perspective and vision of what you've seen so far and it's as if you're starting to see a new movie. Not if it will be Cage's best but I didn't dislike this one at all, so without further ado, let's talk a little about this curious story...

Esto lo vamos a comenzar con Rob (Nicolas Cage), un hombre que ha decidido dejar su vida en el pasado, todo lo que hacía y lo que fue para irse a vivir a una cabaña en el medio del bosque. Su vida en ese entorno es de lo más rudimentaria y simple, vive con muy poco porque entendemos que no necesita más pero la cosa es que no vive solo, con él vive una cerda rastreadoras de trufas y que a su vez es su fiel compañía. Para que entendamos mejor, es su mascota y su único cable a tierra como se dice por ahí. Ella es experta buscando trufas, lo hace porque es el sustento de Rob que a su vez vive de venderlas para los restaurantes más conocidos de la ciudad de Portland. Todo esto lo hace gracias a un intermediario, Amir (Alex Wolff) quien se podría decir que es su único contacto con la civilización de las grandes ciudades.

Pero, cual es el detonante de la trama? - pues que alguien secuestra a esta cerda, una buena noche allanan el sitio en donde vive Rob y se la llevan. Como es de esperarse nuestro ermitaño no planea quedarse de brazos cruzados e inmediatamente se lanza en la busqueda de su fiel compañera. Es en este momento cuando la historia se va abriendo y comenzamos a ver cosas que nos van a ir derrumbando ideas que teníamos acerca de este personaje y de lo que era su vida en el pasado. Pronto estaremos sumergidos en una red criminal, en un inframundo que involucra a los grandes restaurantes de la ciudad y seremos testigos de como Rob hará lo necesario para recuperar lo que con tanto anhelo busca. Pero recuerden, no todo es lo que parece...

Esta película es de esas que al principio pueden parecer muy predecibles, uno piensa que ha visto muchas con esta temática pero la realidad es que no es así o por lo menos a mi no me pareció, como ya dije a medida que la historia se va desarrollando van saliendo a la luz detalles que honestamente no me los esperaba pero que no son malos del todo, al contrario, al ser cosas que no veíamos venir logramos entender la naturaleza real del film. Cual es esa naturaleza? - según mi percepción todo tiene que ver con el apego, con ese sentimiento de que si perdemos algo en nuestras vidas que signifique mucho puede que el sentido de vivirla poco a poco vaya desapareciendo y que si amigos, esta película es un drama con un toque extraño de lo que puede ser un thriller.

This film is one of those that at first may seem very predictable, one thinks that he has seen many with this theme but the reality is that it is not so or at least it did not seem to me, as I said as the story develops are coming to light details that honestly I did not expect but that are not bad at all, on the contrary, to be things that we did not see coming we understand the real nature of the film. What is that nature? - According to my perception everything has to do with attachment, with that feeling that if we lose something in our lives that means a lot, the sense of living it may gradually disappear and yes friends, this film is a drama with a strange touch of what can be a thriller.

En lo que comienzas a verla te vas a enganchar porque quieres saber que hay más allá, no todo puede ser tan simple como desaparecer e irte al medio de la nada a vivir, sabemos que detrás de eso hay una historia oculta que es lo que queremos descubrir y que eventualmente lo hacemos pero no si antes pasar por una serie de eventos bastantes interesantes y esclarecedores. En lo personal no me aburrí en ningún momento, eso para mi es buena señal de que una película no es que sea buena pero por lo menos entretiene. Ojo, no estoy diciendo que sea mala, para mi no lo es, puede que para algunos sea muy lenta o que cuando descubran todo no queden conformes pero ya eso es cuestión de gustos de cada quien.

As soon as you start watching it you will be hooked because you want to know what is beyond, not everything can be as simple as disappearing and going to the middle of nowhere to live, we know that behind that there is a hidden story that is what we want to discover and eventually we do but not if we first go through a series of interesting and enlightening events. Personally I was not bored at any time, that for me is a good sign that a movie is not that good but at least it entertains. I'm not saying it's bad, for me it's not, maybe for some it's too slow or that when they discover everything they won't be satisfied but that's a matter of taste.

Me gustó mucho la forma en la que fue grabada, es una película muy sencilla y que no busca ser ostentosa, su fotografía es muy buena, la capacidad para crear tensión cuando es requerida también es algo que está presente y algo muy importante, los diálogos y las palabras, a esto tienen que prestarle atención porque muchas veces para entender lo que pasa y el contexto de las emociones y acciones hay que saber interpretar cada línea de los personajes. No es nada del otro mundo pero hay si hay muchas cosas para pensar detrás de esta trama. Es una película rara, no les voy a mentir, pero que en el fondo el mensaje es muy claro. Siento que el verdadero gancho de este film es una frase que usé unos párrafos más arriba: no todo es lo que parece... y si ya la vieron entenderán de que hablo y para los que no, pues tendrán que matar la curiosidad echándole un vistazo.

I really liked the way it was shot, it is a very simple film that does not seek to be ostentatious, its photography is very good, the ability to create tension when required is also something that is present and something very important, the dialogues and words, to this you have to pay attention because many times to understand what happens and the context of emotions and actions you have to know how to interpret each line of the characters. It is not a big deal but there are many things to think about behind this plot. It's a weird movie, I'm not going to lie to you, but deep down the message is very clear. I feel that the real hook of this film is a phrase I used a few paragraphs above: not everything is what it seems... and if you have already seen it you will understand what I'm talking about and for those who haven't, you will have to kill your curiosity by taking a look at it.

No hay muchos personajes, la verdad es que solo hay tres que resaltan en donde el de Rob está en la punta de a pirámide. La actuacion de Nicolas Cage me convenció, es un personaje que ha pasado por ciertas cosas en su vida y producto de esas vivencias es quien es, un tipo que con tal de no tener más pérdidas en su vida hará lo que esté en su manos para evitar otro triste final. No vemos tampoco grandes dotes de actuación pero es muy justo para la historia. Es un Cage diferente, más oscuro y sobrio, no es que no hayamos visto papeles de él así anteriormente pero en lo personal tenía un buen rato que no lo veía actuar, de allí a que esta película no me molestara tanto.

Nicolas Cage's performance convinced me, he is a character that has gone through certain things in his life and as a result of those experiences he is who he is, a guy that as long as he has no more losses in his life will do anything in his power to avoid another sad end. We don't see great acting skills either but it's very fair for the story. It's a different Cage, darker and more sober, not that we haven't seen roles like this from him before but personally I hadn't seen him act for a while, hence this movie didn't bother me so much.

La película entera es un plot twist, así la entendí y no es algo que me haya disgustado del todo, siento que para pasar el rato está más que bien. Es una trama básica pero con sus toques de querer ser algo más, siempre estamos a la expectativa de que algo importante va a pasar y eso hace que no nos cansemos de ella. Le doy un 7/10 porque no estamos ante una pieza del cine pero tampoco ante un bodrio de film, pudo haber sido peor la verdad. Hay intriga, hay esa sed de venganza que todos los que tengamos mascotas la vamos a sentir y hay un drama y una tristeza en el ambiente que le da un toque mas sensible a la historia y es lo que hace que lleguemos a conectar un poco mejor con Rob. La pueden conseguir en Amazon Prime, tiene una duración de hora y media, es realmente corta por lo que se hace muy fácil verla. Les dejo como siempre el tráiler para que vean más o menos de que va.

The whole movie is a plot twist, that's how I understood it and it's not something I disliked at all, I feel that to pass the time it's more than fine. It's a basic plot but with its touches of wanting to be something more, we are always expecting that something important is going to happen and that makes us not get tired of it. I give it a 7/10 because we are not in front of a piece of cinema but neither in front of a piece of crap film, it could have been worse the truth. There is intrigue, there is that thirst for revenge that all of us who have pets are going to feel and there is a drama and sadness in the environment that gives a more sensitive touch to the story and is what makes us connect a little better with Rob. You can get it on Amazon Prime, it has a duration of an hour and a half, it is really short so it is very easy to watch. I leave as always the trailer so you can see more or less what it's about.
