La última reseña que hice de alguna película de Marvel creo que fue la de Thor: Love and Thunder y con ella pensé, de ingenuo, que no se podía estar al mismo nivel o más bajo en lo que a calidad supuso aquel film. Es verdad que luego salió Wakanda Forever la cual también vi pero nunca reseñé siendo ella la causante de que mis ánimos mejoraran un poco, para mi esa película no es mala, de hecho es bastante pasable con respecto a los bodrios que últimamente Marvel nos está presentando. Con aquello en mente decido, hace no mucho, darle la oportunidad a la última aventura de Scott Lang para ver si el gigante de los superhéroes, en este caso Marvel, seguía la senda de Wakanda o volveríamos al fiasco de Thor.

The last review I did of a Marvel movie I think was Thor: Love and Thunder and with it I thought, naively, that it could not be at the same level or lower in terms of quality than that film. It is true that then came out Wakanda Forever which I also saw but I never reviewed it being the cause that my mood improved a little, for me that movie is not bad, in fact it is quite passable with respect to the dullness that lately Marvel is presenting us. With that in mind I decided, not long ago, to give Scott Lang's latest adventure a chance to see if the superhero giant, in this case Marvel, would follow the path of Wakanda or we would return to the fiasco of Thor.

Lamentablemente, y que no esto no sea considerado un spoiler, creo que se volvió a tener un retroceso importante. Es verdad que para mi esta es mucho mejor que Thor pero tampoco está en los niveles de las grandes películas que alguna vez engalanaron los cines; no es la peor de Marvel, como he leído por ahí, porque superar en ese sentido a Eternals y a la propia Thor: love and thunder es complicado pero si fácilmente puede estar en el top 3 o 5 de lo peor que ha sacado Kevin Feige y su gente. Esto es frustrante porque soy fanático de este tipo de películas y mínimamente quiero un producto de calidad pero hay algo que no está permitiendo que eso pase y es algo que tiene bastante rato sucediendo. Pero bueno, vayamos y hablemos un poco de lo que fue este viaje por el multiverso cuántico.

Sadly, and let this not be considered a spoiler, I think it's back to having a major setback. It is true that for me this is much better than Thor but it is not at the levels of the great films that once graced theaters; it is not the worst of Marvel, as I have read out there, because to overcome in that sense Eternals and Thor: love and thunder itself is complicated but it can easily be in the top 3 or 5 of the worst that Kevin Feige and his people have put out. This is frustrating because I'm a fan of this kind of movies and at the very least I want a quality product but there's something that's not allowing that to happen and it's something that's been going on for quite some time. But well, let's go ahead and talk a little bit about what this trip through the quantum multiverse was like.

Esta nueva etapa da inicio con un Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) viviendo una vida de fama y de tranquilad tras los sucesos de Endgame y es que ahora siendo un Vengador tiene el reconocimiento de todo el mundo tras haber ayudado a salvar a la humanidad en aquella época. La hija de Scott, Cassie (Kathryn Newton), es una persona muy apasionada con todo el tema científico en parte gracias a su abuelo Hank (Michael Douglas) con el cual ha estado trabajando en secreto ciertos experimentos los cuales uno de ellos sale poderosamente mal. Que pasa? - pues que en esa busqueda de descubrir un poco más acerca del mundo cuántico toda la familia en cuestión es arrastrada hacia el en donde se darán cuenta que dicho multiverso es más amplio de lo que imaginaban.

This new stage begins with Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) living a life of fame and tranquility after the events of Endgame and now being an Avenger he has the recognition of the whole world after having helped save humanity at that time. Scott's daughter, Cassie (Kathryn Newton), is very passionate about all things scientific thanks in part to her grandfather Hank (Michael Douglas) with whom she has been secretly working on certain experiments, one of which goes horribly wrong. What happens? - Well, in their quest to discover a little more about the quantum world, the whole family in question is dragged into it, where they realize that the multiverse is wider than they imagined.

Estando allí notan cosas extrañas y es que se percatan que no están solos, hay toda una civilización perfectamente desarrollada la cual padece un gran problema, están sometidos bajo el yugo de Kang, el conquistador (Jonathan Mayers) quien hay que decir está llamado a ser la nueva cara del mal en esta fase 5 del universo Marvel, pero será bajo otro actor ya que Mayers ha sido cancelado y apartado de todo. Es acá cuando la película comienza su curso en la que tendrán que hacerle frente a un villano en teoría bastante poderoso con la finalidad de detener el plan que se trae entre manos; sin querer dar muchas pistas pero tiene que ver con líneas del tiempo y el propio multiverso en si. Con todo esto se desata una locura llena con la comedia típica de Marvel-Disney.

Being there they notice strange things and they realize that they are not alone, there is a perfectly developed civilization which suffers a big problem, they are subjected under the yoke of Kang, the conqueror (Jonathan Mayers) who is called to be the new face of evil in this phase 5 of the Marvel universe, but it will be under another actor as Mayers has been canceled and removed from everything. It is here when the film begins its course in which they will have to face a villain in theory quite powerful in order to stop the plan that is at hand, without giving many clues but it has to do with timelines and the multiverse itself. With all this, a madness filled with the typical Marvel-Disney comedy is unleashed.

Si bien es verdad que Marvel es adquirida por Disney por allá en el 2009 en esos momentos todavía no se veía esa mano o influencia en las películas tal y como la vemos ahora, en parte porque eran otros tiempos, estamos hablando hace 14 años atrás, por lo que el mundo no estaba tan alerta como lo puede estar hoy en día. En lo personal no me gusta el camino por el que están llevando a estos films en donde todo tiene que ser "friendly" con una comedia que no da risa, con situaciones que no dan risa y con personajes mal estructurados que tampoco dan risa y todo para complacer a unos cuantos y así no caer bajo el dedo de la inquisición de las redes sociales. Lo que no saben o bueno yo creo que si, es que bajo esa formula se están cargando historias que pudiesen ser mucho más impresionantes de lo que terminan siendo.

While it is true that Marvel was acquired by Disney back in 2009, at that time we still did not see that hand or influence in the movies as we see it now, partly because they were other times, we are talking about 14 years ago, so the world was not as alert as it can be today. Personally I do not like the way they are taking these films where everything has to be "friendly" with a comedy that does not give laughter, with situations that do not give laughter and poorly structured characters that also do not give laughter and all to please a few and thus not fall under the finger of the inquisition of social networks. What they do not know or well I think they do, is that under that formula they are loading stories that could be much more impressive than what they end up being.

Habiendo dicho esto acá en Quantumania para mi el gran fallo es lo que comentaba anteriormente, lo terrible que son ciertos personajes y el ejemplo más claro es MODOK. Lo que hicieron con él no tiene nombre, para lo que no lo conocen es un villano de este universo bastante oscuro y siniestro cuya variedad de poderes es bastante interesante; en este film lo caricaturizaron al punto que da pena y lastima verlo. Es una especie de payaso lacayo de Kang que da mucha lastima en pantalla, esto para mi supuso un bajón importante, no me lo esperaba y es otra confirmación de que Marvel pareciera que no está interesada en ser fiel a sus personajes.

Having said that here in Quantumania for me the big failure is what I said before, how terrible certain characters are and the clearest example is MODOK. What they did with him has no name, for those who do not know him is a villain of this universe quite dark and sinister whose variety of powers is quite interesting; in this film they caricatured him to the point that it is pitiful and pitiful to see him. He is a kind of clown lackey of Kang who is very pitiful on screen, this for me was a major downturn, I did not expect it and is another confirmation that Marvel seems not interested in being faithful to their characters.

En cuanto a la trama o historia no me pareció tan nefasta, si repetitiva porque si hay algo que hemos visto en gran cantidad es todo lo que tiene que ver con el multiverso y en Marvel más todavía por lo que pareciera que los argumentos se están acabando o quieren seguir explotando algo que ya al publico puede que le esté cansando un poco de ver. Cuando la estaba viendo sinceramente no me aburrí pero si se me hizo un tanto predecible además de que ciertas escenas e interacciones me sacaron del mood de acción y tensión que por momentos veíamos. Hubo algo que si me molestó bastante y tiene que ver con decisiones creativas y es la manera en como Kang es "derrotado", para los que la vieron sabrán de que hablo y de lo absurdo que fue todo aquello y para los que aún no la ven pues prepárense para eso.

As for the plot or story I did not find it so bad, if repetitive because if there is something that we have seen in large numbers is everything that has to do with the multiverse and in Marvel even more so it seems that the arguments are running out or want to continue exploiting something that the public may already be getting a little tired of seeing. When I was watching it I honestly didn't get bored but it was a bit predictable and certain scenes and interactions took me out of the action and tension mood we were seeing at times. There was something that bothered me a lot and it has to do with creative decisions and it is the way in which Kang is "defeated", for those who saw it will know what I'm talking about and how absurd it all was and for those who still haven't seen it, get ready for that.

A nivel de personajes del único que voy a hablar es de Kang. En ningún momento de la película conecte con él, me pareció un villano totalmente vacío y sin ningún tipo de carisma. Creo que una de las razones primordiales del por qué no me atrapó completamente este film fue por el malo de la partida y pensar que es uno increíblemente poderoso, en los comics lo pueden notar, pero acá fue bastante penoso su estructura como personaje. Unos de los hype más grande que tenía era ver que tal iba a ser Kang, pues nada, una gran decepción. En cuanto al resto que sepan que hasta Bill Murray hace acto de presencia por ahí. Michelle Pfeiffer, Michael Douglas y el mismo Paul Rudd siempre acertados, nada que decir de ellos.

In terms of characters, the only one I'm going to talk about is Kang. At no point in the film did I connect with him, I found him to be a totally empty villain with no charisma whatsoever. I think one of the main reasons why I wasn't completely caught by this film was because of the bad guy and to think that he is an incredibly powerful one, in the comics you can notice it, but here his structure as a character was pretty lame. One of the biggest hype I had was to see what Kang was going to be like, well nothing, a big disappointment. As for the rest of the cast, you should know that even Bill Murray makes an appearance. Michelle Pfeiffer, Michael Douglas and Paul Rudd himself are always right, nothing to say about them.

En general a esta película le doy un 7/10 y estoy siendo generoso. No es tan mala como Thor a la que le di menos de 7, si mal no recuerdo, pero tampoco es el gran acierto de Marvel. Se puede ver, los efectos están aceptables, la trama en el fondo es buena, no tanto en la forma y bueno en cuanto a sus personajes ahí si la cosa flaquea un poco. Si Marvel no cambia el curso me temo que sus próximas producciones tendrán el mismo destino, cansinas, repetitivas, NADA graciosas y hasta cursis. Les dejo el tráiler por acá.

Overall I give this movie a 7/10 and I'm being generous. It's not as bad as Thor which I gave less than 7, if I remember correctly, but it's not Marvel's great success either. It can be seen, the effects are acceptable, the plot is good in the background, not so much in the form and well as for his characters there if the thing if the thing falters a bit. If Marvel doesn't change course I'm afraid that their next productions will have the same destiny, tired, repetitive, NOT funny and even cheesy. I leave the trailer here.
