Recién el día de ayer terminé de disfrutar esta maravilla de serie, así, en la primera línea de esta reseña ya lo estoy diciendo pero es que cuando la realidad es abrumadora creo que no se puede tapar con un dedo. Severance creo que es, y que lo diga yo que soy una persona que ve muchas más series que películas, de las mejores series que he tenido la oportunidad de ver en los últimos tiempos, por qué? - pues por una cantidad de cosas de las que hablaremos más adelante pero que entre ellas pudieran estar el argumento de la historia, algo nunca visto y sobretodo por todo lo que la trama te hace sentir mientras van pasando los capítulos.

Just yesterday I finished enjoying this wonderful series, so, in the first line of this review I'm already saying it but when reality is overwhelming I think you can't cover it with a finger. Severance I think it is, and that I say it I am a person who sees many more series than movies, one of the best series I've had the opportunity to see in recent times, why? - Because of a number of things that we will talk about later but among them could be the plot of the story, something never seen before and above all for everything that the plot makes you feel as the chapters go by.

Para aquellos que no lo saben o todavía no la han visto esta serie está dirigida por el actor Ben Stiller, un actor que hemos visto en películas de comedia. Recuerdo que antes de empezar a verla tuve, erróneamente, el prejuicio de pensar que esta serie sería una más del montón o que sería eso, una historia cómica y sin sentido. Pero como me alegra de haberme equivocado. Severance es una mezcla de ciencia ficción, drama, suspenso y si quisiéramos añadir thriller psicológico también lo pudiéramos hacer. No sigamos perdiendo más tiempo y hablemos de esta increíble historia.

For those who don't know or haven't seen it yet, this series is directed by actor Ben Stiller, an actor we have seen in comedy movies. I remember before I started watching it I mistakenly had the prejudice of thinking that this series would be just another one of the bunch or that it would be just that, a comical and pointless story. But boy am I glad I was wrong. Severance is a mix of science fiction, drama, suspense and if we wanted to add psychological thriller we could do that too. Let's not waste any more time and let's talk about this amazing story.

Para ir empezando tenemos a Mark Scout (Adam Scott) un hombre trabajador quien está a cargo de uno de los departamentos de Lumon, una empresa extremadamente misteriosa y perturbadora. En ella solo trabajan cuatro personas a las cuales se les hizo un procedimiento quirúrgico bastante peculiar el cual es el epicentro de toda esta historia llena de paranoia y situaciones incomodas. Basicamente la idea de Lumon con esa intervención es lograr separar, mediante un chip, los recuerdos del trabajo con los personales para así llegar a un balance "perfecto" y que las personas sean más eficientes.

To begin with, we have Mark Scout (Adam Scott), a hard-working man who is in charge of one of the departments of Lumon, an extremely mysterious and disturbing company. It only employs four people who underwent a rather peculiar surgical procedure which is the epicenter of this whole story full of paranoia and uncomfortable situations. Basically, Lumon's idea with this intervention is to separate, by means of a chip, the work memories from the personal ones in order to reach a "perfect" balance and make people more efficient.

La cosa es que conforme va pasando el tiempo y porque la verdad siempre sale a la luz, Mark se va dando cuenta por si solo de que algo no va bien y empieza a cuestionarse los procedimientos y la forma de actuar de la empresa para la que trabaja por casi tres años. Ya a partir de este momento la serie entra en una espiral en donde la tensión va en aumento y en donde uno como espectador también nos comenzamos a hacer preguntas, porque si, al principio todo puede ser muy confuso para nosotros pero rápidamente vamos logrando entender el panorama completo.

The thing is that as time goes by and because the truth always comes to light, Mark realizes by himself that something is not right and begins to question the procedures and the way of acting of the company for which he has worked for almost three years. From this moment on the series enters a spiral where the tension is increasing and where one as a viewer we also begin to ask questions, because yes, at first everything can be very confusing for us but quickly we get to understand the big picture.

Cuando hago esa pregunta en el titulo de la publicación es porque es la clave de todo y es que al someterte a la "separación" terminas por convertirte en dos personas, la que trabajo y la que vive fuera de la oficina. Es la pregunta que ellos se hacen y que no logran entender y de ahí que comiencen los cuestionamientos y la búsqueda de la verdad, esa para poder responder quien soy aquí y quien soy allá afuera. La forma en que está producida esta serie es impecable, el guion, el concepto general, la expectación que genera cada capitulo, la fotografía, hasta la paleta de colores, todo se mezcla para crear un producto totalmente nuevo con respecto al contenido que existe.

When I ask that question in the title of the publication is because it is the key to everything and is that by submitting to the "separation" you end up becoming two people, the one who works and the one who lives outside the office. Y es que para que una serie te sorprenda a estas alturas en donde constantemente estamos siendo bombardeados con contenido vacío y meramente comercial es algo muy complicado de lograr y Severance lo hace, te saca de tu lugar con cada episodio. Lo hace con par de figuras: los cliffhanger los cuales son una marca registrada en esta serie, es increíble como al terminar un capitulo quieres ver el otro al instante, y de segundo los cambios de trama o los plot twist que también se ven bastante en esta trama, de las cosas que más disfruté sinceramente porque nunca puedes dar nada por sentado.

For a series to surprise you at this point in time where we are constantly bombarded with empty and merely commercial content is something very difficult to achieve and Severance does it, it takes you out of your place with each episode. It does it with a couple of figures: the cliffhangers which are a trademark in this series, it's amazing how when you finish a chapter you want to see the next one instantly, and secondly the plot changes or plot twists that are also quite common in this plot, one of the things I enjoyed the most sincerely because you can never take anything for granted.

Es una serie incomoda, perturbadora, en donde siempre te vas a preguntar que está pasando realmente, en donde siempre vas a pensar que algo están escondiendo y en donde siempre vas a sentir que están vigilando todo. A ese nivel de ansiedad te lleva la serie, a uno en donde quieres saber más pero no puedes. Y en parte todo esto es gracias a los personajes que en ella hacen vida, unos que son igual de perturbadores que la misma historia; y es que toda buena serie tiene que tener a esas personas que odias, quieres o que simplemente nunca vas a entender.

It is an uncomfortable, disturbing series, where you will always wonder what is really going on, where you will always think that they are hiding something and where you will always feel that they are watching everything. To that level of anxiety the series takes you, to one where you want to know more but you can't. And part of this is thanks to the characters that make life in it, ones that are just as disturbing as the story itself; and every good series has to have those people you hate, love or that you will simply never understand.

Y es aquí en donde me detengo para hablar un poco de ellos. Harmony Cobel (Patricia Arquette) es uno de los personajes top de esta serie, son esos que al primer momento que ves su interacción sabes que algo no está bien con ella, si la serie fuese un personaje sin duda sería Harmony. Un personaje obsesivo, carente de empatía y frio pero tan necesario que sin ella la serie sería 100% diferente. A su lado ven a Seth Milchick (Tramell Tillman), una persona que vendría siendo el martillo en Lumon, la que sigue ordenes pero que igualmente detestas. A pesar de ser, para mi, un personaje secundario, creo que es muy relevante en la trama, muchas de las cosas que allí suceden giran en torno a él.

And it is here where I stop to talk a little about them. Harmony Cobel (Patricia Arquette) is one of the top characters of this series, they are those that at the first moment you see their interaction you know that something is not right with her, if the series were a character it would definitely be Harmony. An obsessive character, lacking empathy and cold but so necessary that without her the series would be 100% different. Next to her you see Seth Milchick (Tramell Tillman), a person who would be the hammer in Lumon, the one who follows orders but you hate him anyway. Despite being, for me, a secondary character, I think he is very relevant to the plot, many of the things that happen there revolve around him.

Las otras personas que trabajan en el departamento de Mark son Irving (John Turturro), Dylan (Zach Cherry) y Helly (Britt Lower), todos diferentes, con formas de ser distintas, con motivaciones distintas y que se complementan de una forma magnifica. Creo que el casting a nivel general fue bastante bueno, no hay ni un personaje que haya sido malo o se haya quedado por debajo de los demás, todos aportan lo necesario para que la serie camine hacia el puerto seguro. Otro punto que me agradó mucho fue la participación de Christopher Walken.

The other people who work in Mark's department are Irving (John Turturro), Dylan (Zach Cherry) and Helly (Britt Lower), all different, with different ways of being, with different motivations and that complement each other in a magnificent way. I think the casting in general was quite good, there is not one character that was bad or was below the others, all contribute what is necessary for the series to walk towards the safe harbor. Another point that pleased me a lot was the participation of Christopher Walken.

Y bueno hablar de Mark, interpretado por Adam Scott es decir que es un personaje muy bien interpretado. Esa dualidad de identidad que tuvo que hacer dentro de la misma serie es algo muy difícil de hacer porque la diferencia de uno con el otro se daba en cuestión de segundos, era como ver a una persona con trastornos de personalidad. Muy buen papel.

And well, to talk about Mark, played by Adam Scott is to say that he is a very well played character. That duality of identity that he had to do within the same series is something very difficult to do because the difference of one with the other was given in a matter of seconds, it was like watching a person with personality disorders. Very good role.

En conclusión, una serie que no tiene ningún tipo de desperdicio porque como ella no ha habido una igual o por lo menos yo no he visto nada parecido. Ya pinta para ser de las mejores series del año, de eso no tengo dudas. Y la buena noticia es que ya está confirmada la segunda temporada, no sabemos para cuando porque recién está el boom de esta primera pero si, seguiremos disfrutando o sufriendo con la empresa Lumon y todo lo que se trae entre manos.

In conclusion, a series that does not have any kind of waste because there has not been one like it or at least I have not seen anything like it. It already looks to be one of the best series of the year, of that I have no doubt. And the good news is that the second season is already confirmed, we don't know for when because the boom of this first one is just starting but yes, we will continue to enjoy or suffer with the company Lumon and all that it brings in its hands.

9.5/10. Así sin más. Épica, diferente, inquietante y muy bien lograda en todos sus aspectos. La pueden ver en Apple TV+, tiene una duración de nueve capítulos de 50 minutos aproximadamente cada uno. Les dejo el tráiler para que no sigan perdiendo el tiempo y vayan a verla y disfrutarla.
