Week after week we are looking for those hidden gems that I think deserve to be talked about. As has become customary I have been watching movies of all kinds, last week was pure horror so for this one I had to change the genre a little, this time it was the turn of science fiction. This film is one of those that touches on the realities of life in the event that technology transcends to highly developed levels to the point that AIs take control of the universe and therefore decide on behalf of the people who may still be left in these dystopian futures.

Semana tras semana estamos buscando esas joyas que por ahí están escondidas y que creo que merecen que sean habladas. Como ya ha venido siendo costumbre me he dedicado a ver películas de todo tipo, la semana pasada fue de terror puro por lo que para esta había que cambiar un poco el género, en esta oportunidad le tocó a la ciencia ficción. Este film es de esos que toca las realidades de la vida en caso de que la tecnología trascendiera a niveles muy desarrollados al punto de que las IA tomarán el control del andar del universo y por tanto decidieran en nombre de las personas que aún pudieran quedar en estos futuros distópicos.

As I was saying, we are in a post-apocalyptic future where the Earth is practically uninhabited, there are only a few humans trying to survive with difficulty. It turns out that all people moved, only in mind and personality, to a new fully cybernetic world called DEVA. If you know what I mean, it's something like the Matrix or what happens in Altered Carbon. The thing is that apparently there they live well because no one is aware of a physical body, they are simply without human concerns. But from one moment to another everything changes.

Como les comentaba nos encontramos en un futuro de esos que llaman postapocalípticos en donde la Tierra está prácticamente deshabitada, solo quedan unos cuantos humanos tratando de subsistir a duras penas. Resulta que todas las personas se mudaron, únicamente en mente y personalidad, a un nuevo mundo totalmente cibernético llamado DEVA. Para que me entiendas es algo algo parecido a la Matrix o a lo que sucede en Altered Carbon. La cosa es que aparentemente allí se vive bien porque nadie está pendiente de un cuerpo físico, simplemente están sin las preocupaciones humanas. Pero de un momento a otro todo cambia.

Apparently someone from Earth managed to access the DEVA systems to try to communicate with all those who make life there, ie a hacker, This violated everything and left bad for this system that in theory is so sophisticated so the council that runs DEVA calls Angela Balzac, one of its best officers, to go to the planet, find this hacker and eliminate the threat. The plot so far is clear, the detail is that upon arriving on earth Angela meets a human, Dingo, her facilitator and she begins to realize a few things that being in DEVA did not see so that conflict of visions begins to appear and with it the loyalty of the mission.

Al parecer alguien proveniente de la Tierra logró acceder a los sistemas de DEVA para tratar de comunicarse con todos los que allí hacen vida, es decir, un hacker, Esto vulneró todo y dejó mal parado a este sistema que en teoría es tan sofisticado por lo que el consejo que dirige a DEVA llama a Angela Balzac, una de sus mejores oficiales, para que vaya al planeta, encuentre a este hacker y elimine la amenaza. La trama hasta acá es clara, el detalle es que al llegar a la tierra Angela conoce a un humano, Dingo, su facilitador y ella comienza a darse cuenta de unas cuantas cosas que estando en DEVA no veía por lo que ese conflicto de visiones comienza a aparecer y con él la lealtad de la misión.

I think one of the strong points of this movie without any doubt is its animation. This was directed by Seiji Mizushima, yes, the same of Fullmetal Alchemist. We are facing a story that involves space, robots, explosions, shooting, space stations; all the ingredients to make the visuals spectacular. I honestly enjoyed watching this film, it is very fluid, the CGI is used decently and the plus is the use of 3D. It is really appreciated when they are in space or when there are confrontations between robots. It's very entertaining to watch, when the animation does the job you can really notice the quality.

Creo que uno de los puntos fuertes de esta película sin ningún tipo dudas es su animación. Esto fue dirigido por Seiji Mizushima, si, el mismo de Fullmetal Alchemist. Estamos ante una historia que involucra el espacio, robots, explosiones, disparos, estaciones espaciales; todos los ingredientes para que que lo visual sea espectacular. Honestamente disfruté mucho ver este film, es muy fluido, el CGI está usado decentemente y el plus es el uso del 3D. Se aprecia mucho cuando están en el espacio o cuando se dan los enfrentamientos entre robots. Es muy entretenida de ver, cuando la animación hace el trabajo se nota mucho la calidad.

As for the plot, despite being a little flat at times it is very cool because I feel that it goes beyond the simple fight between one side and another, many times it gets philosophical about what it means to be human, the emotions that one can feel, the objectives and goals that we can have in our lives, dreams, desires, etc. This is because the offer to leave the Earth and become a virtual or synthetic entity is on the table, so Dingo understands that this is not life or freedom, that there is nothing better than having control of our emotions and bodies and being able to dispose of this in the way we please. It is here that the conflict of interest begins to emerge in Angela. These undertones give a lot of depth to the story and that is always a good thing.

En cuanto a la trama pues a pesar de ser por momentos un poco plana está muy cool porque siento que va más allá de la simple pelea entre un bando y otro, muchas veces se pone filosófica con respecto a lo que significa ser humano, las emociones que uno puede llegar a sentir, los objetivos y metas que podemos tener en nuestras vidas, sueños, deseos, etc. Esto es porque la oferta de abandonar la Tierra y ser un ente virtual o sintético está sobre la mesa, entonces Dingo entiende que eso no es vida ni libertad, que no hay nada mejor que tener control de nuestras emociones y cuerpos y poder disponer de esto de la manera que nos plazca. Es acá cuando el conflicto de intereses comienza a surgir en Angela. Estos trasfondos le dan mucha profundidad a la historia y eso siempre es bueno.

The characters are well developed. Angela, not being familiar with the current life on Earth, is like a child who sees everything anew, so her judgment is not completely defined, to see how she is understanding things shows growth in her. Dingo, in spite of looking unconcerned about everything, has clear objectives, besides having a very strong sense of help and responsibility. Both complement each other very well, they make a very good couple because they are 100% different personalities. Zero complaints in this section.

Los personajes están bien desarrollados. Angela al no estar familiarizada con la vida actual en la Tierra es como un niño que ve todo de nuevo por lo que su juicio no está del todo definido, ver como va entendiendo las cosas denota crecimiento en ella. Dingo a pesar de verse despreocupado de todo en el fondo tiene sus objetivos claros, además de tener un sentido de ayuda y responsabilidad muy fuerte. Ambos se complementan muy bien, hacen muy buena pareja porque son 100% personalidades diferentes. Cero quejas de este apartado.

Very good movie, if you like science fiction and everything that has to do with space battles and robots this is for you. Plus the ending is very cool. It's made for everyone, it's very enjoyable, one of those hidden gems. It's less than two hours long so it's a quick watch. Here is the trailer.

Muy buena película, si te gusta la ciencia ficción y todo lo que tiene que ver con batallas espaciales y robots esto es para ti. Además de que el final es muy cool. Está hecha para todo el mundo, es muy disfrutable, una joya de esas ocultas. Dura menos de dos horas por lo que se ve rápido. Por acá les dejo el tráiler.
