Hola amigos, buenas vibras para todos.
**Hello friends, good vibes to all.
I'm coming a little late to review this series since it premiered about 3 years ago but since the fact doesn't imply that here we are talking about it a little bit. The Alienist is one of those series that are not at all known, I say this because many people I know have no idea of its existence and it's a shame because I consider it a gem of the good ones.
If you are a lover or fan of serial murder stories where, in addition to the police, the world of the human mind comes into play and how the study of this can help solve these cases, I'm sure you're going to like it a lot. Because that's basically what it's about, a series of crimes occur and it's a journalist, an investigator and a doctor who get involved in trying to solve them. Without further ado, let's see how it goes...
- Resumen // Summary.
This is a series that is set in the New York of the late nineteenth century, and that tells us how it will be all its production in terms of setting and costumes and what for me, is a great point very much in favor. It is a thriller that is based on a novel by "Caleb Carr" where what predominates is a series of serial murders accompanied by much horror and brutality. The protagonists are Dakota Fanning, Luke Evens and Daniel Brühl, other well-known actors.
But what is an alienist? - I am sure many of you are wondering. It turns out that it is nothing more than a terminology that was used at the time for experts who studied and treated mental illness. In this case it is Laszlo Kreizler (Brühl) who, upon seeing the first victim, a mutilated boy dressed as a girl, became interested in the criminal mind capable of committing such barbarity.
Seeing then that the police had little interest in solving this crime and acted negligently, Laszlo decides to form a group of people to help him find the whereabouts of this brutal murderer. It is when he calls John (Evans), an illustrator of the New York Times and Sara (Fanning) who is a secretary and who in the end was the first woman to become a police officer in New York.
From there, the series unfolds around the investigation of each murder and how through psychology, something that really catches our attention, we can be able to get to the bottom and discover the possible murderer through clues and behaviors.
- Opinion.
Personally, it is a series that I liked a lot, it is very entertaining besides having some ups and downs that make you get hooked more easily. It has its touches of suspense and mystery that really manage to keep the expectation at all times and once you start watching it you will want to know how it ends.
Does it have graphic content? - Yes it does, nothing too grotesque but enough. And there are some murders that more than the amount of blood that may be there is the form or the context of them what really impacts; another of the points that this series has in its favor.
And the characters are also very good and well structured. Laszlo is a very peculiar person with his own quirks that many times may seem that he overacts but in my opinion I think that's just the way his character is, someone with many "tics" and who talks to himself. Sara is a very cold and calculating person, not someone of attachment but at the same time a very capable woman committed to her work and excel. And finally John, the most neutral of the three, without very predominant traits could be the "weakest" character.
In short, a HIGHLY recommended series. It consists of 2 seasons and a third one is still to be seen. I invite you to enjoy it because it is worth it, an 8/10. Here I leave the trailer for you to take a look:
