Here we are again with another of Studio Ghibli's great films, Castle in the Sky, or as it's also known in some places, "Laputa" (a rather delicate and controversial name in Spanish 😂). Right off the bat, I have to say that this film is one of my favorites because adventure is the dominant theme from beginning to end; it's a fast-paced, entertaining, and magical story that ranks among my top Ghibli films. As always, it continues the trend of creating fantastical environments with truly endearing and fun characters.

Acá estamos de nuevo con otra de las grandes películas del Studio Ghibli, El Castillo en el Cielo, o como la conocen por ahí también como "Laputa" (un nombre bien delicado y controversial en español 😂). De buenas a primeras tengo que decir que este film ha sido uno de los que más me ha gustado porque es uno en donde lo que predomina de principio a fin es la aventura; es una historia bien movida, entretenida y mágica que se ubica en mi top de la mejores películas de Ghibli. Como siempre sigue con la tendencia de crear entornos llenos de fantasía con personajes realmente entrañables y divertidos.

This story begins with Sheeta, a young girl kidnapped by men—something akin to a government organization—because she possesses a magical and mystical stone with fascinating powers. This stone is the key to finding a floating city/island called Laputa and the fortress within it. Laputa is an ancient city, created by a far more advanced civilization, but its core keeps it hidden beneath a sea of clouds. However, these agents aren't the only ones after the stone; pirates are also after it, and they ultimately attack Sheeta's captivity, allowing her to escape.

Esta trama empieza con Sheeta, una niña que estaba secuestrada por unos hombres, algo así como una organización gubernamental, porque ella es la poseedora de una piedra llena de magia y misticismo que tiene unos poderes muy interesantes. La cosa es que dicha piedra es la llave, la clave para encontrar una ciudad/isla flotante llamada Laputa y a su vez la fortaleza que en ella hay. Esa es una ciudad antigua creada por una civilización claramente más avanzada pero que gracias a su núcleo se mantiene oculta entre un mar de nubes. Pero no solo son estos agentes quienes están detrás de dicha piedra, también lo están unos piratas que al final de cuentas atacan donde Sheeta estaba secuestrada logrando que ella lograra escapar.

Sheeta is rescued from her escape by another boy named Pazu, a young man who lives in a mining town and who quickly becomes her friend. Together, they set out to discover what the stone truly hides and embark on the task of finally finding the lost city in the sky, since Pazu's father also searched for it and was never able to locate it. As you can see, this story is, as I said, an adventure from beginning to end. I really enjoyed watching this film because, like Howl's Moving Castle, it's a plot that grabs you very quickly and is always full of energy. Every time I watch a Studio Ghibli film, I ask myself the same question: Miyazaki's mind for creating all of this is undoubtedly exceptional.

De ese escape la rescata otro niño llamado Pazu, un joven que vive en una ciudad minera y quien rápidamente se hace muy amigo de Sheeta. Entre los dos se encargarán de descubrir qué es lo que realmente oculta esa piedra y se pondrán la tarea de finalmente encontrar dicha ciudad perdida en los cielos ya que el papá de Pazu también estuvo detrás de ella y nunca pudo encontrarla. Como pueden darse cuenta esta historia es como les dije, aventura de principio a fin. Realmente disfruté ver esta película porque. al igual que la del Castillo Vagabundo, es una trama que te atrapa muy rápido y es una en la que siempre está pasando algo, está llena de mucha energía. Cada vez que veo un film del Studio Ghibli me hago el mismo cuestionamiento: la mente de Miyazaki para crear todo esto sin dudas es privilegiada.

Almost all of this studio's films tend to impart some kind of lesson, playing heavily on people's emotions and often being quite moving. This film doesn't lack that element, but it's less pronounced. My point is that this plot is the closest thing to a film where the history behind the city is more important than the character development, which isn't very common in Ghibli films. Of course, this doesn't mean the film lacks the quality of their other works; on the contrary, it's very good and heartwarming.

Casi todas las películas de este estudio tienden a dejar alguna enseñanza, juegan mucho con las emociones propias de las personas, pueden ser muy emotivas; en este caso no digo que no suceda eso porque si pasa pero en menor medida. A lo que quiero llegar es que esta trama es lo más parecido a un film en donde importa más la historia que hay detrás de la ciudad que en el desarrollo de los personajes y eso no es tan común en las películas de Ghibli. Claro está que esto no quiere decir que la película no tenga la calidad de las otras, al contrario, es muy buena y acogedora.

The plot is interesting because towards the end it throws in a plot twist that I honestly didn't see coming, and it helps us understand several things. There are characters that really resonate with the viewer, like the group of pirates. They're the kind of characters you think they'll be one way, but in the end, they turn out to be the opposite—very funny and harmless. As always, I have to praise the animation of the people who made this amazing film almost 40 years ago. I always say this in my reviews, but I assure you that nowadays there are films that just don't look this way.

La trama es interesante porque hacia el final nos sale con un plot twist que la verdad no me esperaba y que hace que entendamos varias cosas. Hay personajes que terminan llegándole al espectador como por ejemplo el grupo de piratas. Son lo típicos que piensas que son de una manera pero al final resultan siendo lo opuesto, muy cómicos e inofensivos. Como siempre alabar la animación de unas personas que hicieron esta barbaridad de película hace casi 40 años. Siempre lo digo en mis reseñas pero hoy en día les aseguro que hay películas que no se ven de esta manera.

A very entertaining film to watch, with great characters and stunning animation. The plot is anything but boring, and if I had to offer a single message, it would be to never judge a book by its cover and to recognize that the power of a good friend can be vital and important in someone's life. I encourage you to watch this film, undoubtedly one of Studio Ghibli's best. I've included the trailer below.

Un film muy entretenido de ver, tiene buenos personajes, ni hablar de la animación, su trama es cero aburrida y si me animo a decir un mensaje que pudo dejar es nunca juzgar un libro por portada y que el poder de un buen amigo puede ser vital e importante en la vida de alguien. Los animo a ver esta película, de las mejores, sin ninguna duda, del Studio Ghibli. Les dejo el trailer por acá abajo.
