La saga de Jonh Wick es de las más exitosas, populares y buenas que nos ha dado el cine a lo largo de los años por lo que era de esperarse que algo así como esta mini serie saliera a luz más temprano que tarde. En sus películas obviamente nos encargamos de conocer al personaje que en parte hacía vida en el famoso Continental, pero que tanto sabíamos de dicho hotel? - la verdad es que muy poco no decir nada. Lo único que se entendía es que pertenecía a una especie de sociedad que albergaba una serie de asesinos y la cual tenía unas reglas bastante estrictas en lo que a su funcionamiento se refiere.

The John Wick saga is one of the most successful, popular and good movies that has given us over the years so it was expected that something like this mini-series would come out sooner rather than later. In his films we obviously got to know the character that partly lived in the famous Continental, but how much did we know about the hotel? - The truth is that very little to say nothing. The only thing that was understood is that it belonged to a kind of society that housed a series of assassins and which had some pretty strict rules as far as its operation is concerned.

Ahora The Continental nos habla enteramente de este hotel, de un antiguo gerente en manos de un gran Mel Gibson y de uno de los personajes más importantes dentro de esta saga, Winston Scott, el actual gerente y propietario. Esperar algo parecido a las películas de John Wick es una cosa que no deberían de hacer porque son cosas totalmente diferentes, si es verdad que hay un ligero intento por mantener la esencia pero la realidad es que son producciones un tanto diferentes, además, de que en calidad esta mini serie es un poco inferior a los films de Chad Stahelski. Así que sin más vayamos y hablemos un poco de que va esta interesante historia acerca del gerente que conoció a John Wick.

Now The Continental tells us entirely about this hotel, a former manager in the hands of a great Mel Gibson and one of the most important characters in this saga, Winston Scott, the current manager and owner. Expecting something similar to the John Wick movies is something you should not do because they are totally different things, if it is true that there is a slight attempt to maintain the essence but the reality is that they are somewhat different productions, in addition, that in quality this mini series is a little inferior to the films of Chad Stahelski. Como dije esta mini serie se centra en la juventud de Winston Scott (Colin Woodell), de sus inicios y vínculos con este hotel. Es una trama que nos mostrará todo el camino y recorrido que este personaje tuvo que andar para llegar a la posición que todos conocemos hoy en día. El tema es que él no pretendía tener nada que ver con este mundo pero ciertos traumas y fantasmas de su pasado todavía lo persiguen y de una manera bastante trágica lo terminan arrastrando al Continental. Allí y amenazado por Cormac O'Connor (Mel Gibson), el gerente en aquel tiempo, no le queda más remedio que involucrarse en algo que no ha hecho pero que indirectamente tendrá que pagar por ello.

As I said this mini series focuses on the youth of Winston Scott (Colin Woodell), his beginnings and links with this hotel. It is a plot that will show us all the path and journey that this character had to walk to get to the position we all know today. The point is that he did not intend to have anything to do with this world but certain traumas and ghosts of his past still haunt him and in a rather tragic way end up dragging him to the Continental. There and threatened by Cormac O'Connor (Mel Gibson), the manager at the time, he has no choice but to get involved in something he has not done but will indirectly have to pay for it.

A partir de acá Winston no se quedará tranquilo e inevitablemente buscará venganza y justicia, que si digo el por qué sería caer e spoiler así que no, por lo que buscará armar a un equipo o grupo de personas con diferentes habilidades para dar caza a Cormac y derribar de buenas a primeras el redimen de terror que tiene en el Continental. A lo largo de los tres capítulos veremos un poco de todo, veremos unas buenas secuencias de peleas, una violencia muy grafica y acorde al universo en el que nos estamos moviendo y también hay un drama un poco importante el cual es necesario para entender ciertas decisiones que veremos que se toman a lo largo de la historia.

Si estamos hablando del mundo de John Wick obviamente todo lo que tiene que ver con golpes, peleas, armas, secuencias de combate cuerpo a cuerpo y la violencia que pueda haber será importante. En lo personal si me gustó lo que vi, en el ambiente hay unas ganas de matar desmedidas que se van alimentando a medida que el tiempo va transcurriendo. La mayoría de los actores sabían moverse, unos con más habilidades que otros pero al final todo fue muy fluido, vemos armas de todo tipo, muertes de todo tipo, estilo de pelea de todo tipo; la verdad es que en ese sentido todo estuvo muy logrado. La sangre como siempre muy presente siendo el elemento principal en caso todas las peleas, esa salpicadera por todos lados muy común acá.

If we are talking about the world of John Wick, obviously everything that has to do with blows, fights, weapons, hand-to-hand combat sequences and violence will be important. Personally I liked what I saw, in the atmosphere there is an excessive desire to kill that is fed as time goes by. Most of the actors knew how to move, some with more skills than others but in the end everything was very fluid, we see weapons of all kinds, deaths of all kinds, fighting style of all kinds; the truth is that in that sense everything was very successful. The blood as always very present being the main element in all the fights, that splatter everywhere very common here.

La historia es otra de las cosas interesantes porque no solo se molestan en dar a conocer una sola sino que varias al mismo tiempo para que la serie no quede tan vacía y simple. Tenemos la de Winston con su hermano que se remonta a su infancia la cual es el motor principal de todo lo que se ve y además las de un par más de ese grupo que son interesantes y llamativas. Evidentemente esto es pura acción pero como dije existe un drama de trasfondo importante, al final lo puedo resumir como una historia de amor familiar, de lealtad y de venganza pura y dura. Cada episodio dura como hora y media, es como ver tres películas, pero a pesar de esto debo decirte que no te vas a aburrir, la trama es muy dinámica porque siempre está pasando algo. Es entretenimiento en su máxima expresión.

The story is another interesting thing because they don't only bother to show one story but several at the same time so that the series is not so empty and simple. We have Winston's one with his brother going back to his childhood which is the main engine of everything you see and also those of a couple more of that group which are interesting and eye-catching. Obviously this is pure action but as I said there is some important background drama, in the end I can sum it up as a story of family love, loyalty and outright revenge. Each episode lasts about an hour and a half, it's like watching three movies, but despite this I must tell you that you will not get bored, the plot is very dynamic because there is always something going on. It is entertainment at its best.

Cinematográficamente está muy bien producida, ambientación, la banda sonora es muy top, es de lo que más disfruté, al final es un buen producto. Hablemos de los personajes. Mel Gibson es de lo mejor de la serie, es el típico villano sin sangre en las venas, una combinación de una persona totalmente cuerda con otra con un grado de demencia considerable, creo que estos papeles Gibson los interpreta con una calidad muy grande. Disfruté mucho verlo actuar. Charon (Ayomide Adegun) es la copia de Lance Reddick, muy bien logrado también. Quiero destacar a Lou (Jessica Allain), lo hago por el nivel de destreza peleando que tiene, sus escenas son muy buenas, hay una dentro de una cabina de teléfono publico que es top, me sorprendió mucho ella. Y finalmente hay un par de asesinos que son gemelos, de los personajes más desconcertantes de la serie, sobre todo el hombre, es incomodo verlo a la cara.

Cinematographically it is very well produced, ambience, the soundtrack is very top, it is what I enjoyed the most, in the end it is a good product. Let's talk about the characters. Mel Gibson is one of the best in the series, he is the typical villain with no blood in his veins, a combination of a totally sane person with another one with a considerable degree of dementia, I think Gibson plays these roles with a very high quality. I really enjoyed watching him perform. Charon (Ayomide Adegun) is the carbon copy of Lance Reddick, very well done as well. I want to highlight Lou (Jessica Allain), I do it because of the level of fighting skills she has, her scenes are very good, there is one inside a public phone booth that is top, I was very surprised by her. And finally there are a pair of murderers who are twins, some of the most disconcerting characters of the series, especially the man, it is uncomfortable to see his face.

Le doy un 8/10, siento que es un buen spin-off de todo este mundo. Es obvio que no le llega a los films de John Wick, ni al peor de los cuatro esta miniserie le llega pero es un buen intento, hay mucha acción y eso se agradece, que hayan querido mantener el aura original. Tres capítulos de hora y media cada uno. Es una buena opción, se la recomiendo a todos los que alguna vez disfrutaron de John Wick. I give it an 8/10, I feel it's a good spin-off of this whole world. It's obvious that it doesn't reach the John Wick films, not even the worst of the four, but it's a good attempt, there's a lot of action and that's appreciated, that they wanted to keep the original aura. Three chapters of an hour and a half each. It's a good option, I recommend it to everyone who ever enjoyed John Wick. I leave the trailer below and it is available on Prime Video.
