Las películas del genero bélico podría decir que son de las que más disfruto ver pero también considero que son de las más infravaloradas de la industria por las personas. Esto último es una opinión muy personal aún sabiendo que hay muchas buenas producciones de este estilo, 1917, American Sniper, Dunkerque, Black Hawk Down y como no, El Pianista. Y a pesar de que hay mucha calidad siento que no están en las conversaciones de los cinéfilos y puedo entender el por qué no les llama la atención pero les puedo asegurar que este tipo de films son más que simples explosiones y disparos, hay una carga emocional muy pesada e importante en la vida de estos hombres que es lo que hace que, por ejemplo esta película de hoy, sea tan interesante de ver.
I could say that war movies are the ones I enjoy watching the most, but I also consider them to be the most underrated in the industry by people. This last is a very personal opinion even knowing that there are many good productions of this style, 1917, American Sniper, Dunkirk, Black Hawk Down and of course, The Pianist. And even though there is a lot of quality I feel that they are not in the conversations of moviegoers and I can understand why they don't catch their attention but I can assure you that this kind of films are more than just explosions and shootings, there is a very heavy and important emotional charge in the lives of these men which is what makes, for example this film today, so interesting to watch.
Es por todo esto que decidí invertir dos horas de mi vida para darle chance a esta nueva producción, basada en hechos reales, la cual nos cuenta la historia de una unidad que estaba en Afganistán y de como los interpretes eran tan importantes para ellos estando en aquellas tierras hostiles "dominadas" por los talibanes. Para los que no lo saben las tropas de Estados Unidos se retiraron de este país hace 2 años de manera definitiva haciendo que estos talibanes volvieran a tomar el control completo de Afganistán; esto lo digo porque sirve de contexto para entender un poco la dinámica del film. Una trama llena de honor, compromiso y lealtad es lo que verán acá así que sin más hablemos un poco de esta gran película con una mejor historia.
This is why I decided to invest two hours of my life to give a chance to this new production, based on real facts, which tells the story of a unit that was in Afghanistan and how the interpreters were so important to them being in those hostile lands "dominated" by the Taliban. For those who do not know, the U.S. troops withdrew from this country 2 years ago definitively making these Taliban to return to take full control of Afghanistan; I say this because it serves as a context to understand a little the dynamics of the film. A plot full of honor, commitment and loyalty is what you will see here so without further ado let's talk about this great movie with a better story.
Esta historia se centra en el sargento John Kinley (Jake Gyllenhaal) quien está en su última incursión por tierras afganas, él junto a su unidad de comando son los encargados de buscar cualquier tipo de explosivos y armas que puedan ser utilizadas por los talibanes. Estos son ejercicios peligrosos ya que en aquel entonces, y ahora, todas esas zonas montañosas estaban bajo el asedio de los talibanes con la diferencia de que en aquel entonces había quien les hiciera frente cosa que hoy no sucede. La cosa es que para poder acceder y poder comunicarse con el entorno se necesita de alguien que conozca la zona, hable el idioma y genere confianza a esas poblaciones y es ahí donde entra Ahmed (Dar Salim), un hombre con cierto pasado que decide unirse a las filas del ejercito con el único objetivo de proteger y proveer un mejor futuro a su familia.
This story focuses on Sergeant John Kinley (Jake Gyllenhaal) who is on his last foray into Afghan lands, he and his commando unit are in charge of searching for any kind of explosives and weapons that can be used by the Taliban. These are dangerous exercises because back then, and now, all those mountainous areas were under siege by the Taliban with the difference that back then there was someone to confront them, which is not the case today. The thing is that in order to access and communicate with the environment you need someone who knows the area, speaks the language and generate confidence to these populations and that is where Ahmed (Dar Salim) comes in, a man with a certain past who decides to join the ranks of the army with the sole objective of protecting and providing a better future for his family.
Que pasa entonces? - pues que en una de esas misiones de reconocimiento sufren una emboscada la cual termina siendo terrorífica y obliga a estos dos hombres a pasar desapercibidos entre las montañas y valles mientras que son cazados por los talibanes de la zona quienes tienen como objetivo capturarlos. El odio que existe entre esa gente es real, muchas veces lo vemos reflejado en las películas pero la realidad es que si hay un resentimiento y cierta manera de pensar la cual para unos los otros son los malos y viceversa cosa que al final se convierte en un bucle infinito el cual no tiene pinta de resolverse pronto. La verdad es que en este film vemos esto en primer plano pero también la solidaridad y el sentido de hermandad, es un contraste bastante interesante.
What happens then? - Well, in one of those reconnaissance missions they suffer an ambush which ends up being terrifying and forces these two men to go unnoticed among the mountains and valleys while they are hunted by the Taliban of the area who aim to capture them. The hatred that exists between these people is real, many times we see it reflected in the movies but the reality is that if there is a resentment and a certain way of thinking which for some the others are the bad guys and vice versa which in the end becomes an infinite loop which does not seem to be resolved soon. The truth is that in this film we see this in the foreground but also the solidarity and sense of brotherhood, it is quite an interesting contrast.
De los aspectos más relevantes que le veo al film es la capacidad que tiene para mantener en tensión al espectador en todo momento, si es verdad que hay pasajes en donde vemos unas cinematografías curiosas y cierto drama, la realidad es que el suspenso que genera la sensación de estar siendo perseguidos y andar en una persecución perenne es de máximo nivel. Es como una montaña rusa de emociones. Incluso dentro del mismo drama que les mencioné, que es dado por situaciones producto de aquella incursión, se vive una angustia y sufrimiento con el cual es muy sencillo empatizar, ya se darán cuenta del por qué. Es lo que dije, las cargas emocionales de estas películas son vitales para su funcionamiento, las historias que hay detrás de estos soldados son las que hacen que estos films se llenen de vida.
One of the most relevant aspects that I see in the film is its ability to keep the viewer in tension at all times, if it is true that there are passages where we see some curious cinematography and some drama, the reality is that the suspense generated by the feeling of being chased and being in a perennial pursuit is of the highest level. It's like a roller coaster of emotions. Even within the same drama that I mentioned, which is given by situations resulting from that raid, there is anguish and suffering with which it is very easy to empathize, you will realize why. That's what I said, the emotional charges of these films are vital to their performance, the stories behind these soldiers are what make these films come alive.
A nivel de efectos no hay mucho que decir porque son producciones, por lo menos en este caso, que no las necesita. Si existe un despliegue importante de personajes y extras que hacen que todo se vuelva un poco táctico y de estrategia. Hay sus explosiones, combates cuerpo a cuerpo, francotiradores, aviones y helicópteros de guerra, intercambios de disparos, todos los ingredientes primordiales para que la acción sea la bandera predominante. También somo testigos de como es sobrevivir bajo el asedio de una guerra y la zozobra que eso genera; la supervivencia que veremos por parte de estos dos hombres en territorio hostil es otra de las cosas para enmarcar, el viaje que hace Ahmed con John hace que este hombre sea el verdadero héroe de esta historia, bueno de hecho lo es.
At the level of effects there is not much to say because they are productions, at least in this case, that do not need them. If there is a significant deployment of characters and extras that make everything becomes a bit tactical and strategy. There are explosions, close combat, snipers, war planes and helicopters, exchanges of gunfire, all the essential ingredients for the action to be the predominant flag. We also witness what it is like to survive under the siege of a war and the anxiety that this generates; the survival that we will see from these two men in hostile territory is another thing to frame, the journey that Ahmed makes with John makes this man the real hero of this story, well in fact he is.
Banda sonora, fotografía, cinematografía, todo está perfectamente logrado y se complementan entre si de una manera brutal. Honestamente tenía tiempo que no disfrutaba una película de este estilo, creo que la ultima fue 1917, respetando las diferencias. Es un film rudo, cruel pero uno en donde se honra mucho la palabra y la fidelidad, estos soldados y todos los que lo rodean siento que tienen muy arraigado esos valores que por más clichés que parezcan siempre terminan siendo determinantes para la resolución de estas historias. Esto lo digo porque durante estas misiones hubo una promesa hacia Ahmed y su familia, promesa que no cumplieron pero que Kinley hará todo lo posible para cumplirla, de ahí todos los sentimientos y dramas que veremos acá.
Soundtrack, photography, cinematography, everything is perfectly achieved and complement each other in a brutal way. Honestly, I haven't enjoyed a film of this style for a long time, I think the last one was 1917, respecting the differences. It is a tough, cruel film but one where the word and fidelity are honored, these soldiers and all those around him I feel that they have deeply rooted these values that no matter how cliché they may seem always end up being decisive for the resolution of these stories. I say this because during these missions there was a promise to Ahmed and his family, a promise that they did not keep but Kinley will do everything possible to fulfill it, hence all the feelings and dramas that we will see here.
De los personajes habría que hablar de Gyllenhaal y Salim que son los dos protagonistas. Ambos están hecho para este tipo de papeles, la química entre los dos es muy buena, uno es el militar comprometido y correcto y el otro es una persona más impulsiva pero con los objetivos bien claros, es decir, el compromiso de los dos es incuestionable. En realidad es elenco esta bueno, por ahí vemos a Antony Starr, el famoso Homelander de la serie The Boys, haciendo una aparición estelar y determinante. Nada más que decir, siento es todo estuvo muy correcto.
Of the characters we should talk about Gyllenhaal and Salim who are the two protagonists. Both are made for this type of roles, the chemistry between the two is very good, one is the committed and correct military and the other is a more impulsive person but with clear objectives, that is, the commitment of the two is unquestionable. The cast is really good, we see Antony Starr, the famous Homelander from the series The Boys, making a stellar and decisive appearance. Nothing more to say, I feel it was all very correct.
A este film le doy un 8/10, muy sinceramente estuvo mejor de lo que esperaba, se disfruta mucho, hay mucha tensión y expectativa siempre la cual te mantiene inquieto y alerta. Buenas escenas, buenos combates, la banda sonora es otra de las cosas de las que nunca hablo y acá me llamó mucho la atención. Tiene una duración de dos horas y la puede encontrar en Prime Video. Demás está decir que se las recomiendo a todos, vale mucho la pena. Por aquí es dejo el tráiler.
I give this film an 8/10, very sincerely it was better than I expected, it is very enjoyable, there is always a lot of tension and expectation which keeps you restless and alert. Good scenes, good fights, the soundtrack is another thing I never talk about and here it caught my attention. It has a duration of two hours and you can find it in Prime Video. Needless to say that I recommend it to everyone, it's worth it. Here is the trailer.

I thought this film was extremely well-made and was surprised to find out that it did quite poorly in theaters despite the fact that it was directed by Guy Ritchie. I thought it was great!

Ohhh recuerdo haber visto el tráiler de este film, se me había olvidado, a mí me encantan las películas bélicas, con este estilo, de hecho ahorita estaba viendo una que es un clásico jaja, pero bueno gracias por compartirla, ya sé que veré en estos días, saludos.
Saludos amigo, tuve la oportunidad de ver esta gran película y sin duda cada segundo de la misma nos mantiene atento y sobre todo esa situación por la que pasan donde está en riesgo la vida y un mínimo detalle todo puede salir mal, además tanto en la vida real como en las películas esa clase de género nunca se han llevado nada bien existiendo ese odio y rivalidad de siempre matarse. El personaje principal lo hace muy bien y se vive toda esa experiencia increíble. Gracias por compartirlo con nosotros.
Ritchie lo considero un buen director; en estos días aprovecharé y por fin veré The Gentlemen y Operetion Fortune que están en Amazon Prime Video.
Está película me pareció buena, tiene excelentes secuencias de acción, creo que a pesar de la acción y del tema del honor, también es una crítica por las políticas de USA con respecto a abandonar a las personas que los ayudaron en su tiempo ese territorio.
La vi hace comun mes, muy buena, lo que dices, mantiene al espectador en tensión y hacen mucho énfasis en el honor, algo muy escaso. Guy Ritchie vuelve a hacer un excelente film, manteniendo un estilo mas clásico que en otros de sus films. Y al e había resultado bien con Wrath of Man.
