Que hay detrás de todas las decisiones que toman los gobiernos?, como se toman esas decisiones? y sobre todo, quienes las toman? - todas estas respuestas son respondidas en esta nueva producción de Netflix la cual nos muestra cual y como es la cara de ser una de las personas más importantes de un país. Generalmente este tipo de thrillers políticos me llaman mucho la atención porque a pesar de ser ficción gran parte de lo que se ve en ellos tienen cierto grado de veracidad y que este en particular está sorprendentemente actualizado con todos los conflictos geopolíticos que azotan al mundo en estos momentos; claro que para que todo esto encaje tiene que estar increíblemente actuado y afortunadamente este hay que decir que este es el caso.

What is behind all the decisions that governments make, how are those decisions made, and above all, who makes them? - All these answers are answered in this new Netflix production which shows us what is the face of being one of the most important people in a country. Generally this type of political thrillers call my attention because despite being fiction much of what is seen in them have some degree of veracity and that this particular one is surprisingly updated with all the geopolitical conflicts that plague the world right now; clear that for all this to fit it has to be incredibly acted and fortunately this one must say that this is the case.

Netflix salió hace poco con The Night Agent, una historia que toca temas políticos importantes pero llevados a la acción pura y dura, es decir desde un punto vista conspirativo y de espionaje. Este no arropa tanto la acción sino que todo es llevado desde la perspectiva de la diplomacia, de como se construyen relaciones, como se maneja la información y como esta se comunica a las personas de interés. La realidad es que ambas series son hermanas por el fondo más que por la forma y eso parece ser una apuesta de Netflix que según mi opinión le salió bastante bien porque ambas series me han gustado mucho. Así que bueno, hablemos un poco de que va esta muy entretenida e interesante serie.

Netflix recently came out with The Night Agent, a story that touches on important political issues but brought to pure and hard action, that is, from a conspiracy and espionage point of view. This one doesn't have so much action but everything is taken from the perspective of diplomacy, how relationships are built, how information is handled and how it is communicated to the people of interest. The reality is that both series are sisters in substance more than in form and that seems to be a bet by Netflix that in my opinion worked out pretty well because I liked both series a lot. So well, let's talk a little about this very entertaining and interesting series.

Esta es la historia de Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) una muy experimentada diplomática quien está acostumbrada a tener cargos que supongan afrontar grandes crisis internacionales. En esta oportunidad le toca estar en Reino Unido en un puesto en el que ella no se siente nada cómoda pero es uno que ha sido decidido desde las altas esferas el cual pondrá a prueba todas sus destrezas de persuasión y geopolítica que la han llevado tan lejos. Pasa que hubo un ataque a un barco británico el cual desatará una gran crisis global porque no se sabe muy bien quien fue el responsable de dicho acto lo que llevará a Kate a hacer uso de la tan temida diplomacia para ir averiguando y recabando toda la información posible.

This is the story of Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) a very experienced diplomat who is used to positions that involve dealing with major international crises. This time she finds herself in the UK in a position she is not at all comfortable in but it is one that has been decided from on high which will test all her skills of persuasion and geopolitics that have gotten her so far. It happens that there was an attack on a British ship which will unleash a major global crisis because it is not well known who was responsible for this act which will lead Kate to make use of the dreaded diplomacy to find out and collect all possible information.

A todo esto hay que sumarle que su matrimonio con Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell) un político de mucho nombre y reconocimiento tanto nacional como internacionalmente está pasando por un momento un tanto tormentoso. Son muchas cosas con las que ella deberá lidiar en su estadía en Gran Bretaña y lo deberá de hacer bien porque de eso depende su carrera, su matrimonio y que en un futuro no se desate una guerra entre países de los cuales la información irá saliendo a lo largo de los capítulos. A pesar de que en la serie no se haga ni un disparo el nivel de tensión, de enganche y de intriga es máximo. Para que entiendan mejor es como estar presenciando un gran juego de ajedrez global en donde los políticos son los reyes, reinas o peones, según sea el caso.

In addition to all this, her marriage to Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell), a politician with a lot of name and recognition both nationally and internationally, is going through a somewhat stormy moment. There are many things that she will have to deal with during her stay in Great Britain and she will have to do it well because her career, her marriage and that in the future a war does not break out between countries of which the information will be coming out throughout the chapters. In spite of the fact that not a single shot is fired in the series, the level of tension, the hook and the intrigue is at its maximum. To better understand it is like witnessing a great global chess game where politicians are the kings, queens or pawns, as the case may be.

Como ya dije esta es una serie que para mi se basa en par de cosas: la comunicación y en la construcción de relaciones. La comunicación porque es increíble como un mensaje, una forma de vestir, una palabra mal o bien dicha, un gesto y hasta una mirada puede ser tan importante en este mundo en donde si no se cuidan esos detalles las consecuencias pueden ser caóticas. La diplomacia siempre he pensado que no funciona de mucho porque es una que está rodeada de intereses y que por lo general es tibia a la hora de querer poner "mano dura" pero es la comunicación eficiente y el mensaje bien dado lo que puede marcar la diferencia. Hal lo dice en unos de sus diálogos: "La diplomacia no sirve de nada hasta que funciona"... Creo que es una frase que resume muy bien lo que es esta serie.

As I said, this is a series that for me is based on two things: communication and relationship building. Communication because it is incredible how a message, a way of dressing, a word badly or well said, a gesture and even a look can be so important in this world where if those details are not taken care of the consequences can be chaotic. I have always thought that diplomacy does not work much because it is one that is surrounded by interests and is generally lukewarm when it comes to wanting to "get tough" but it is efficient communication and a well delivered message that can make the difference. Hal says it in one of his dialogues: "Diplomacy is useless until it works"... I think it's a phrase that sums up very well what this series is all about.

Y lo segundo viene dado por la construcción de las relaciones. Esto va un poco de la mano con lo primero y es que si hay una relación, por más insignificante que sea, no van a haber posibilidades de conseguir mínimamente algo. Kate y sobre todo Hal nos enseñan que es vital hablar con todo el mundo, tener todos los frentes cubiertos y abiertos para una posible solución a los conflictos. También esto aplica para el matrimonio de ellos, es uno que se desmorona pero al haber ciertos intereses siempre están buscando la manera de que alguna manera funcione aunque alguna veces parezca lo contrario. Se podría decir que son una relación toxica de la cual ambos sacan mucho provecho.

And the second is given by the construction of relationships. This goes a little hand in hand with the first, and if there is a relationship, no matter how insignificant it may be, there will be no possibility of achieving anything at all. Kate and especially Hal teach us that it is vital to talk to everyone, to have all fronts covered and open for a possible solution to conflicts. This also applies to their marriage, it is one that falls apart but because there are certain interests they are always looking for a way to make it work even if sometimes it seems otherwise. It could be said that they are a toxic relationship from which they both get a lot of benefit.

Hablando más general es una serie en donde veremos el funcionamiento en pleno de la CIA, Casa Blanca, Presidentes, Primer Ministro, embajadores, asesores, etc. Es fascinante ver, así sea de una manera ficticia, cómo se mueven todas estas personas en aras de un único objetivo: evitar un conflicto. También es verdad que hay mucha manipulación de intereses personales, al final la política es sucia y traicionera y esto tampoco escapa de esta historia. La conspiración es un ingrediente que siempre va a estar presente en cada conversación y eso es algo que le da un toque más interesante a todo el contexto de la situación que se está viviendo. El final de esta serie es espectacular y un poco sin palabras, encierra más o menos todo lo que he dicho, por suerte ya sabemos que tendremos segunda temporada.

More generally speaking, it is a series where we will see the full functioning of the CIA, the White House, Presidents, Prime Ministers, ambassadors, advisors, etc. It is fascinating to see, even in a fictitious way, how all these people move for the sake of a single goal: to avoid a conflict. It is also true that there is a lot of manipulation of personal interests, in the end politics is dirty and treacherous and this does not escape this story either. The conspiracy is an ingredient that will always be present in every conversation and that is something that gives a more interesting touch to the whole context of the situation that is being lived. The end of this series is spectacular and a bit without words, it contains more or less everything I have said, luckily we already know that we will have a second season.

Los personajes son lo mejor de todo. Keri Russell es increíble, la famosa Felicity pero quien también la vi en The Americans y en Cocaine Bear. Su papel es el principal pero lo borda de una forma magistral, tiene una forma de ser bastante particular porque las cosas les gusta que sean a su manera, las imposiciones no van con ella y se le nota un ligero sentido del humor que lo usa como una válvula para liberar presión. Es dura, de carácter fuerte y aunque ella dude o no lo sepa del todo, está preparada para lo que se le venga encima. Disfruté mucho verla actuar, todo con ella es ligero y fácil de ver. Por su parte Rufus Sewell, su esposo, también es un gran personaje. Muy agudo, calculador, inteligente y sobre todo pareciera que siempre consigue lo que quiere.

The characters are the best of all. Keri Russell is amazing, the famous Felicity but who I also saw her in The Americans and Cocaine Bear. Her role is the main one but she embroiders it in a masterful way, she has a very particular way of being because she likes things to be her way, the impositions do not go with her and she has a slight sense of humor that she uses as a valve to release pressure. She is tough, strong-willed and even if she is hesitant or doesn't quite know it, she is prepared for whatever comes her way. I really enjoyed watching her perform, everything with her is light and easy on the eyes. For his part Rufus Sewell, her husband, is also a great character. Very sharp, calculating, intelligent and above all he always seems to get what he wants.

Una gran serie por la que apuesta Netflix con su continuidad. Le doy un 9/10. Me gustó bastante y es que es la prueba de que una historia bien hecha, con actuaciones top y con situaciones políticas que todos conocemos es suficiente para lograr cautivar y enganchar al espectador. La recomiendo a todo el mundo porque de verdad vale mucho la pena, es imperdible. Son 8 episodios de 50 minutos aproximadamente. Les dejo el tráiler.

A great series that Netflix is betting on with its continuity. I give it a 9/10. I liked it a lot and it is the proof that a well done story, with top performances and political situations that we all know is enough to captivate and engage the viewer. I recommend it to everyone because it is really worth it, it is not to be missed. There are 8 episodes of approximately 50 minutes. Here is the trailer.
