For some people or couples, being married can mean that at some point in the relationship or marriage, all the beauty and passion that once existed between them has vanished, often without them even realizing it. Marriage shouldn't become a deadly routine where everything is taken for granted without any attempt at discussion, because over time, this will gradually erode the magic and desire that once brought them together. This film deals with something like that, a movie that's both hilarious and incredibly awkward. It's so difficult to watch at times that it's downright funny to see everything this couple is going through, all because of a simple invitation.
Estar casado para algunas personas o parejas puede que signifique, en algún punto de la relación o del matrimonio, que todo lo bello y cool que alguna vez existió entre esas dos personas haya desaparecido y todo esto sin ellos darse cuenta. El matrimonio no debería de convertirse en una rutina mortal en la que todo se da por sentado sin buscar hablar al respecto ya que con el tiempo eso va a ir haciendo mella hasta matar la magia y las ganas que alguna vez los unió. Sobre algo así va esta película, un film el cual es una locura por lo incomodo y cómico que puede ser y es que es tan difícil de ver a veces que da mucha risa todo lo que esta pareja está viviendo y por lo que está pasando de cara a una simple invitación.
This film is directed by Olivia Wilde, who also stars alongside Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton. Angela and Joe (Wilde and Rogen) are a deeply unhappy and miserable married couple of many years, trapped in a cycle of routine and monotony. They're the kind of couple who seize any opportunity to confront each other. One night, Angela decides to invite her upstairs neighbors over for a casual get-together. This sparks yet another crisis between them, but in the end, they have no choice but to welcome Pina and Hawk. From the start, everything is awkward because these neighbors are also quite eccentric, but deep down, they're very good people. The real reason Angela invited them? You'll have to see the movie, but I can tell you it's quite interesting.
Esto está dirigido por Olivia Wilde siendo ella también protagonista junto a Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz y Edward Norton. Angela y Joe (Wilde y Rogen) son un matrimonio de años profundamente infeliz y desdichado el cual cayó en la redes de la rutina y la monotonía, es de esas parejas que aprovecha cualquier cosa para decirse las cosas en la cara. Una noche Angela decide invitar a sus vecinos de arriba a una reunión casual. Esto desata una crisis entre ellos, de las tantas que tienen, pero que al final no les quedará otra que recibir a Pina y Hawk. Desde un comienzo todo es incomodo porque estos vecinos también son bien particulares pero muy buenas personas en el fondo. La razón real del porque Angela los invitó? - tienen que ver la película pero ya les digo que es bien interesante.
As time passes and the four of them have spent enough time together, the overall situation becomes quite peculiar. Of course, there's a backstory to all of this that I don't want to spoil so you'll go and see it for yourselves, but it has something to do with some noises these neighbors make in their apartment late at night, which might be bothering our marriage. As I mentioned, this is a kind of dramedy where we see a married couple go through various emotions and situations in one night, which will test them to see how far they're willing to go to revive their relationship, or if there's nothing left to do and what was once lost is gone forever. The comedy is guaranteed because what happens in that apartment is somewhat "normal" in certain relationships, but the way everyone is made makes it uncomfortably funny.
Con el pasar del tiempo y después de que los cuatro hayan compartido lo suficiente la situación en general se vuelve bastante peculiar. Claro, hay un trasfondo en todo esto que no les quiero contar para que vayan y la vean pero que tiene que ver un poco con algunos ruidos que estos vecinos hacen en su casa en altas horas de la noche y que puede que molesten a nuestro matrimonio. Como ya les dije esto es una especie de comedia dramática en donde vemos como un matrimonio transita por varias emociones y situaciones en una noche las cuales los pondrán a prueba para ver que tan dispuestos a hacer para lograr revivir su relación o si no hay nada que hacer y aquello que alguna vez ya no lo será más. La comedia está super garantizada porque lo que se vive en aquel apartamento es algo "normal" en ciertas relaciones pero que por la forma de ser de todos se hace incómodamente gracioso.
The film shows us just how different Angela and Joe are. She's 200% organized, meticulous, and incredibly controlling; he's the complete opposite. A bitter guy, haunted by past and present experiences, often careless, which clashes with Angela, and incredibly cynical and unfiltered. So, of course, they're so different and so fed up with each other that watching their relationship with their neighbors unfold is definitely worth seeing. Add to that how incredibly different Pina and Hawk are, and it's precisely because of this, after a few tequilas, that all their frustrations, repressed feelings, and desires begin to surface, culminating in THE final proposal, the icing on the cake, which will determine the future of their marriage.
La película nos muestra lo diferentes que son Angela y Joe. Ella es organizada al 200%, meticulosa y controladora hasta más no poder; él es todo lo contrario. Un tipo amargado por cosas que pasaron y pasan en su vida, despreocupado muchas veces cosa que choca con Angela e increíblemente cínico y sin filtros para decir las cosas. Entonces claro, aparentemente son tan diferentes y están tan "hartos" uno del otro que ver ese desarrollo de su convivencia con sus vecinos es algo que vale mucho la pena ver. Hay que sumarle a esto lo ultra DIFERENTES que son Pina y Hawk y es a raíz precisamente de eso cuando, después de unos tequilas, comienzan a salir todas las frustraciones, cosas y deseos reprimidas y LA propuesta final que es la guinda del pastel y es lo que decidirá hacia donde va ese matrimonio.
The performances are incredible. Seth Rogen is a very funny guy who excels at these comedy/drama roles; Olivia Colman, as director, managed to make a really good and cool movie that touches on sensitive topics and has its down moments because, yes, even though it's a comedy, when the truths come out, the atmosphere changes completely, and that's when the real drama of life appears. And well, Penélope Cruz and Norton are also fantastic; they complement the plot perfectly with their personalities and tastes. In short, it's a film that will make you laugh, surprise you, and you might even relate to some of the characters, and its runtime won't leave you bored. A great movie; I knew it was good, but I didn't imagine I'd like it this much. I'll leave the trailer below.
Las actuaciones son increíbles. Seth Rogen es un tipo muy cómico al que se la da muy bien estos papeles que están entre la comedia/drama; Olivia al ser la directora logró hacer una película muy buena y cool que toca temas sensibles y que tiene sus momentos de bajón porque si, a pesar de que es una comedia, cuando las verdades salen a flote el ambiente cambia por completo y es ahí cuando aparece el verdadero drama de vida. Y bueno, lo de Penélope Cruz y Norton también es buenísimo, complementan muy bien la trama con sus personalidades y gustos. En fin, es un film con el que se van a reír, se van a sorprender, puede que se sientan identificados en algunos casos y que en su duración no va a haber cabida para el aburrimiento. Una gran película, sabía que era buena pero no imaginaba que me fuera a gustar tanto. Les dejo el tráiler por acá abajo.
