Creo que todos conocemos la historia épica y extraordinaria de Alejandro Dumas que habla de los tres mosqueteros, que en realidad eran cuatro; aquellos hombres que trabajaban bajo las directrices del rey de Francia y que a su vez eran una especie de cuerpo armado que protegía a la máxima figura del reino francés. Pues en esta oportunidad esa historia ha sido llevada al cine, aunque no es la primera vez, solo que siento que en esta ocasión el resultado fue mucho mejor que el de sus predecesoras. Pero, que me hizo darle un ojo a esta producción? - pues que en sus filas de actores hay un par los cuales vi trabajar hace no mucho en una serie de Apple TV llamada **Liaison**, nada más y nada menos que Eva Green y Vicent Cassel, esta pareja inseparable.
I think we all know the epic and extraordinary story by Alexandre Dumas about the three musketeers, who were actually four; those men who worked under the directives of the king of France and who in turn were a kind of armed corps that protected the highest figure of the French kingdom. Well, this time this story has been taken to the movies, although it is not the first time, I just feel that this time the result was much better than its predecessors. But what made me take a look at this production? - Well, there is a couple of actors in its cast that I saw working not long ago in an Apple TV series called Liaison, nothing more and nothing less than Eva Green and Vincent Cassel, this inseparable couple.
Los tres mosqueteros es una historia de amor, porque el trasfondo de algunos de sus personajes se basa en dicho sentimiento, pero también se centra mucho en la conspiración, algo que era muy común esas épocas, estamos hablando de principios de los años 1600 aproximadamente. Conspiraciones que en su mayoría eran llevadas a cabo por personas cercanas a la religión, recuerden que por lo menos la Iglesia Católica siempre ha tenido un poder descomunal en decisiones de estado ya que suponer tener el apoyo de cardenales y del propio Papa era algo vital para el éxito de un mandato. Pues en esta historia más o menos por allí va la cosa, los hilos se mueven a espaldas del rey y son los mosqueteros los que tienen que dar el golpe definitivo. Así que bueno, sin más hablemos de que va esta nueva entrega de estos míticos personajes de la historia y literatura mundial.
The Three Musketeers is a love story, because the background of some of its characters is based on that feeling, but it also focuses a lot on conspiracy, something that was very common in those times, we are talking about the early 1600s approximately. Conspiracies that were mostly carried out by people close to religion, remember that at least the Catholic Church has always had a huge power in state decisions since having the support of cardinals and the Pope himself was vital for the success of a mandate. Well, in this story more or less that's how it goes, the strings are pulled behind the king's back and it is the musketeers who have to give the final blow. So, without further ado, let's talk about this new installment of these mythical characters of history and world literature.
Esta historia da inicio con D'Artagnan (François Civil), un joven gascón que se encuentra escapando por haber metido sus manos en donde no debía. En esa huida termina llegando a Paris, la realidad es que estaba buscando a la persona que lo había atacado pero en cambio y de manera fortuita e involuntaria empieza teniendo problemas con tres hombres los cuales lo desafían a duelos, algo que estaba más que prohibido. Es en esos momentos cuando finalmente conoce a Athos (Vicent Cassel), Porthos (Pio Marmaï) y Aramis (Romain Duris), los tres mosqueteros del rey. Es a partir de acá cuando la relación de estos cuatro hombres se comienza a gestar al punto que terminan involucrados en una conspiración que va muchos más allá de lo que imaginaban.
This story begins with D'Artagnan (François Civil), a young Gascon who is on the run for having put his hands where he shouldn't have. In this escape he ends up arriving in Paris, the reality is that he was looking for the person who had attacked him but instead and in a fortuitous and involuntary way he starts having problems with three men who challenge him to duels, something that was more than forbidden. It is in those moments when he finally meets Athos (Vicent Cassel), Porthos (Pio Marmaï) and Aramis (Romain Duris), the three musketeers of the king. It is from here that the relationship of these four men begins to develop to the point that they end up involved in a conspiracy that goes far beyond what they imagined.
La conspiración es de tal magnitud que puede terminar en una guerra entre Inglaterra y Francia. Detrás de todo esto hay dos personas, el cardenal Richelieu y una muy misteriosa mujer, Milady de Winter (Eva Green). La película cuenta como se van elaborando dichos movimientos a la sombre del rey con la finalidad de que este tome la decisión que más le conviene a los católicos, porque si, recuerden que este es un conflicto religioso. Y por otro lado pues los mosqueteros tendrán con lidiar con algunos problemas que les surgirán a raíz de todo esto. La verdad es que el film es muy bueno, la producción está muy top y es de alto nivel, ambientación, actuaciones, todo hace que valga la pena verla.
The conspiracy is of such magnitude that it may end in a war between England and France. Behind all this there are two people, Cardinal Richelieu and a very mysterious woman, Milady de Winter (Eva Green). The film tells how these movements are being elaborated in the shadow of the king in order to make him take the decision that best suits the Catholics, because yes, remember that this is a religious conflict. And on the other hand, the musketeers will have to deal with some problems that will arise as a result of all this. The truth is that the film is very good, the production is very top notch and is of high level, setting, performances, everything makes it worth watching.
Siempre me va a parecer fascinante ver películas adaptadas a esas épocas, en lo personal soy muy amante de la historia y si bien es verdad la novela de Dumas no es exactamente un calco de lo que realmente pasó si se ayuda de personajes y hechos que si ocurrieron para armar la trama tal y como la conocemos. Los conflictos entre los católicos y otras religiones siempre han existido, desde épocas milenarias hasta pasando por las nefastas cruzadas, siempre esa visión de querer ser el credo más dominante y con más poder ha estado presente por muchos cientos de años y eso es lo que en este film logramos ver, esa necesidad de dominio que es la que mueve la trama de esta película;/ es muy interesante ver como las aspiraciones de un Cardenal puede tambalear un reino. Parece ficción pero esto era más común de lo que se piensa, sino me creen lean la historia de los Medici, que tuvieron como cuatro Papas, si mal no recuerdo.
I will always find it fascinating to see movies adapted to those times, personally I am very fond of history and although it is true that Dumas' novel is not exactly a copy of what really happened, it does use characters and events that did occur to build the plot as we know it. The conflicts between Catholics and other religions have always existed, from millenary times to the nefarious crusades, always that vision of wanting to be the most dominant creed and with more power has been present for many hundreds of years and that is what we see in this film, that need for dominance that is what moves the plot of this film; / it is very interesting to see how the aspirations of a Cardinal can shake a kingdom. It seems fiction but this was more common than you think, if you don't believe me read the history of the Medici, who had about four Popes, if I remember correctly.
Hay algo que tienen que saber y es que esta producción consta de dos partes, dos películas que fueron grabadas y que la segunda verá la luz a finales de año por lo que si, el final que verán acá es bastante abierto. Como les comentaba el amor también es un motor, por lo menos en D'Artagnan ya que entre todos estos acontecimientos conoce a una mujer de la cual se enamora y que termina siendo pieza clave en este rompecabezas, la historia de Athos también está amarrada a esto lo que describe su forma de ser y algo más con la reina de Francia por ahí. Siendo estas dos cosas las razones de ser del film hace que sea mucho más interesante y amena la experiencia de verlo, ya que no es la típica historia vacía y sin ningún tipo de contexto.
There is something you have to know and that is that this production consists of two parts, two films that were recorded and that the second one will be released at the end of the year, so yes, the ending you will see here is quite open. As I was saying, love is also a driving force, at least in D'Artagnan since among all these events he meets a woman with whom he falls in love and who ends up being a key piece in this puzzle, the story of Athos is also tied to this which describes his way of being and something else with the Queen of France around. These two things being the raisons d'être of the film makes it a much more interesting and enjoyable viewing experience, as it is not the typical empty story without any kind of context.
La película es muy entretenida de ver porque siempre hay un misterio que resolver, entra en un rol detectivesco muy cool que hace que a medida que va avanzando la trama la intriga vaya en aumento. Además existe una persecución perenne que hace también que haya sus escenas de acción muy bien hechas con peleas de espadas, mosquetones y cuerpo a cuerpo. Esto sin contar toda la expectación que se vive al ver como se va elaborando poco a poco el famoso plan de guerra. El vestuario, toda la ambientación hecha a la medida, la iluminación, todas estas cosas que pocas veces se nombran y que son primordiales para que el producto final sea de calidad.
The film is very entertaining to watch because there is always a mystery to solve, it enters into a very cool detective role that makes the intrigue increase as the plot progresses. In addition there is a perennial chase that makes also that there are very well done action scenes with sword fights, musket and melee. This without counting all the expectation that is lived to see how the famous war plan is being developed little by little. The costumes, all the custom-made setting, the lighting, all these things that are rarely mentioned and that are essential for the final product to be of quality.
Vincent Cassel como siempre nos entrega una actuación a la altura, acá siendo un mosquetero nos muestra habilidades propias de estos soldados. Un personaje frio pero con un sentido de pertenencia y honor muy grande, con unos ideales que son complicados de romper. Eva Green es la antagonista, bella, sofisticada y muy despiadada cuando quiere, es parte del complot y por tanto la veremos en diferentes roles; hay que decir que este tipo de personajes son los que mejor se les da. Y François siendo D'Artagnan también es muy bueno, un joven con ansias de justicia y al que veremos evolucionar a medida que los problemas se le van acercando. En realidad todos los personajes están muy interpretados, el casting es impecable.
Vincent Cassel as always gives us a performance at the height, here being a musketeer shows us skills typical of these soldiers. A cold character but with a great sense of belonging and honor, with ideals that are difficult to break. Eva Green is the antagonist, beautiful, sophisticated and very ruthless when she wants, she is part of the plot and therefore we will see her in different roles; it must be said that this type of characters are the ones they are best at. And François being D'Artagnan is also very good, a young man eager for justice and we will see him evolve as the problems come to him. Actually all the characters are very well played, the casting is impeccable.
Un 8/10, de verdad me gustó mucho el film. Esta producción francesa se ve que está hecha con mucha calidad, buenas actuaciones, muy entretenida, no te aburres en ningún momento. Sin dudas es un film que recomiendo ver a todos. Tiene una duración de un poco menos de dos horas. Por acá les dejo el tráiler.

Es uno de los film que quiero ver el esquema y la forma se ven potentes. A mi también me llaman la atención las producciones donde hay una estética diseñada muy bien. Me refiero a la composición del espacio y el vestuario. Creo que tiene temas de política interesantes y también algo ramontico. :)
