What is the plot?

A girl travels to the village where her father lives, she has not seen him since she was six years old. Her mother left that place, with her, after she was injured on her back in one of the abuses. She has come to the village with a mission: to kill him. Apparently her mother received a letter threatening her and the girl has decided to take the initiative and obtain justice. But when she finally finds the house, her father has already been killed. There is a secret that she will soon discover, when she has to escape from the town sheriff, who is desperately looking for the money that the girl's father had hidden.

I am attracted to movies that can be classified as B series. It is one of my guilty pleasures. Where some people see a bad movie, for me it can be a movie with entertaining moments and not so bad. There are several things about this movie that caught my attention.

The location of the story in a town that seems to have been abandoned by God. Where an unpleasant Sheriff seems to be the king of the place, he is well represented. The whole town, sunk in misery, conveys bad feelings.

A young and very physically attractive girl, with a bad-girl attitude, is also an expert in the handling of the axe. This was definitely one of the elements of the film that attracted me the most, especially when I saw in the poster, who the main girl was. I would have liked to see more rawness in the scenes of violence, because I am addicted to violence in the cinema and the film had the opportunity to better explore that path, in the style of exploitation cinema. But its violent scenes end up being very soft. Instead of going the way of pure violence, the director takes the story to a family drama, with a surprising twist of the script, where the secrets that the girl's mother had kept from her all these years. The film takes the story seriously, when the best thing was to have given free rein to the madness that the plot itself posed.

A sexy girl with an axe

Seeing the beautiful Bella Thorne, defending herself from the villains of the town, giving and receiving blows, and carrying an axe to kill her enemies, is what caught my attention in the film. The singer, actress, writer and film director is most famous for her personal life and for the amount of super sexy photos that circulate on the Internet. She even did an account in onlyfans, creating a controversy with the other users who use that platform to sell their content.

I confess that I find this girl quite attractive and all her exposure, after being a Disney girl, her images or videos with little clothes are devoured on the Internet, she also has millions of followers in her social networks.

Bella Thorne has participated in many other movies, some very bad, that I don't recommend, but she has other jobs where she does her job well. For example, I liked her work in Assassination Nation and The Babysitter, the latter even has a sequel that I haven't seen yet.

In the movie Girl, she takes all the lead in the story and from my point of view, she does a good job. She offers us what we wanted to see, a girl with a bad attitude, who must be tough on her enemies. Perhaps for some viewers it is difficult to separate the character from the actress, because of all the notes and photos of her personal life, but I saw the difference. Although it is hard to believe that such a thin girl can take down a strong man with two strikes, it is part of the fiction.

Bella Thorne fans will be delighted.

Beauty and the Beast

As a counterpoint to the sexy girl, there is the town sheriff, played by the great Mickey Rourke. An expert in playing unpleasant characters, just by looking at his face, who apparently has had more facial touches, is a real monster who will do anything to get the money the father saved for the girl.

Who was a great Hollywood superstar, and lived an era in which his career seemed to revive, after the successes of the films The Fighter, Sin City and the second film of Iron Man. But again the excesses of his personal life, led him to smaller productions.

It is incredible the transformation of a man who was considered one of the sexiest in his time of great fame. That's why this kind of characters, disturbing, are the ideal ones for him. His character will have to face the beautiful girl with an axe. I must reproach the final confrontation between the beauty and the beast for lacking a little more violence and impact. It could have been better.

The film is the film debut of singer and actor Chad Faust, who also reserves a place in history, playing the Sheriff's brother, Charmer. Chad Faust is known for having played the role of Kyle Baldwin in the series The 4400, but from a very young age he has always been interested in cinema. He began directing short films, while acting in movies and television series.

The filmmaker shot the film in his home country, Canada, last year and premiered it at the Fantastic Fest in Austin in 2020. It was in November, when it premiered in selected theaters in the United States and through video-on-demand platforms. So far the feedback from those who have seen it has not been that bad, i.e. it has been acceptably responsive. For your first film as a director, it is a product with interesting ideas and atmosphere. What will Chad Fausto bring us in the future? We will have to wait for a while.
