What is the plot?

Jane is married to Eddie, who is a criminal working for a city mafia group. She can't have children, but one day Eddie shows up with a baby, they are now parents. A few weeks later, Eddie betrays his boss, having to run away and hide. That's what Jane will have to do, with the help of Cal, an African-American with whom she must take a trip to hide from the gangsters. Jane will have to deal with having a baby and at the same time become a strong woman, to protect herself.

The film is long, lasting exactly two hours, but in my case, it never felt heavy or boring. The story, despite its irregular pace, captivated me with the essence of the cinema of the past, precisely the cinema of the moment in which the plot takes place.

The story takes place in the seventies and its greatest achievement, is that it made me transport myself to that time that is reproduced on the screen. It has the charm of the cinema of the seventies, I have enjoyed it from beginning to end, and I forgive you some sequences that seem to get stuck in history, but when you see it in its totality, it is in them where this magic of the film is.

Jane, the protagonist, makes a very credible transformation and evolution. She is a housewife, who knows that her husband is a thief and works for bad men, but has never worked, has not learned to drive a car, is only focused on her role as a woman of the house, and now is the mother of a baby.

Due to her husband's fatal decision to betray his boss, she must now live a journey, running away and having to learn and do things she never imagined she could do. She must lie, learn to shoot and kill, to protect herself and the adorable baby.

During the time she must hide from the criminals who are looking for her, she will also discover things from Eddie's past, and meet people from that past, being surprised by everything her husband has hidden from her.

Fortunately, those people she will meet, starting with Cal, will help her stay safe and achieve that transformation from a simple housewife to a strong woman, who must assume the consequences of her husband's bad decisions and focus on protecting her little baby from all the danger that awaits her.

We are all capable of doing terrible things to protect our loved ones and Jean will do whatever is necessary.

Jane is played by actress Rachel Brosnahan, who is phenomenal throughout the film, taking on the full role of the story. Her performance is one of the best factors in the film. She brings total credibility to the evolution we see in the character.

Rachel Brosnahan is an actress that I first saw in the series House of Cards, where she played Rachel Posner, showing that she was a young, very talented actress who had previously participated in small roles in television series, such as an episode of CSI Miami, which would soon take a big leap in her career.

It was in the series Manhattan, which dealt with the history of the Poyecto that led to the creation of the American atomic bomb. In that series she played Abby, proving once again that she was an actress who had to be taken into account. Mixed with roles in movies and TV series, finally the world success knocked at her door, when she starred in the series The Wonderful Mrs. Maisel, for which she won the Golden Globe as best actress.

The supporting characters work on Jane's journey and transformation. The Nigerian actor Arinzé Kene stands out in the role of Cal, that former criminal who must return to that sordid world to protect Jane, and to settle the debt he has with Eddie. A debt that is not monetary and is one of the revelations of Eddie's past. Emmy Marsha-winning actress Stephanie Blake plays Teri, Cal's current wife who will become an ally of Jane, being a woman who played an important role in Eddie's life. Also appearing, in a brief role, is the brilliant actor Frankie Faison, playing Cal's father.

The film is directed by a woman filmmaker, Julia Hart, who is not as well known around the world, but has three previous films that have been well received by the specialized critics: Miss Stevens and Fast Color and Stargirl. The filmmaker has hooked me with this film and I'm going to find her previous films to watch. I am very satisfied with the story she has told me, written by her, along with Jordan Horowitz.

The portrait of the era we see in the film is perfectly captured, thanks to the work of cinematographer Bryce Fortner, who had already done a magnificent job on the film Professor Marston and Wonder Woman and had already collaborated with director Julia Hart on the film Stargirl.

I'm Your Woman has enchanted me, it is difficult not to fall in love with the character of Jane, with the face of the actress Rachel Brosnahan, who at 30 years old, is more beautiful and captivating. The film kept me intrigued and pending what would be the outcome and the destiny of the protagonist.

I recommend it, it's available on Amazon Prime.

My Ranking: 3/5
