What would you be capable of when your boyfriend's family wants to keep you on? Find out in this intense and disturbing psychological drama.

What is Kindred's plot?
Charlotte and Ben are planning to move to Australia, something that causes discomfort for Ben's mother, who wants her son to live near her. Charlotte discovers that she is pregnant, something she was not prepared for. The couple decides to have the baby, but misfortune strikes their lives. Ben dies tragically and Margaret invites Charlotte to stay in her mansion for a few days. There is also Thomas, a young man who has been raised as a son by Margaret. But something is not right, soon Charlotte realizes that the family wants to keep her in the mansion, even against her will.

Kindred is a British film that offers us an intriguing story of psychological terror, where a family formed by Margaret and the child she has raised, Thomas, in the face of the loss of Ben, will do everything possible for Charlotte to have the baby at home and stay with them.
But what happens when that person doesn't want to be there. Charlotte wants to move on with her life, to get away from there, just as she had planned for Ben. But Margaret's plans are totally different.
When Margaret's character first appears, we realize that she is a troubled woman, used to having her word kept, showing signs of the authoritarianism of the old British aristocracy.
The character of Thomas, is another one that is not normal either, there is something disturbing in him, although he likes Charlotte, and he is willing to be a father to the baby, that is not what Charlotte wants, she wants to escape from there.
An atmosphere of oppression and claustrophobia is felt throughout the film, the struggle for a woman who will be trapped, in a house where she doesn't want to be, but who will be forcibly held.
Any chance of escape will soon disappear, because Margaret seems to control everyone in the village, even those who claim to be Charlotte's closest friends, who could turn their backs on her at any moment.
There are no moments of great fear; the tension of the film lies in how the hell Charlotte will escape from that house. She can manipulate Thomas, and Margaret is an older woman, she has more strength, and she will use deception to get out of this nightmare.

Kindred is a low-budget film, but it is effective in telling us this twisted story, with moments that will make us bite our nails, altering our nerves. We want Charlotte to escape and if possible kill that crazy old Margaret and her lackey Thomas, but will she make it?

The film is directed by young filmmaker Joe Marcantonio, who is making his debut with a fiction feature. His previous works were short films and documentaries, some of them made for important companies, in which he has also participated in the writing process. In Kindred he is also one of the scriptwriters, along with Jason McColgan.
I liked his work as a director, he is a talented filmmaker and I hope he will devote himself more to creating fiction stories. In it he captures in an excellent way that psychological terror and high tension scenes, developing almost all the story in that mansion, surrounded by sad landscapes, because it is a place in decline, with a rather cold tone, which makes us feel uncomfortable.

There are few characters, each of them played by a good actor, something that is usual in any British production, however small, the quality of its actors shines.
Tamara Lawrance plays Charlotte, the woman who will be locked up and trapped in a house where she doesn't want to be. The tragedy that begins with Ben's death is only the beginning. You will have to be brave and draw strength to fight this crazy family. An exclusive performance, which shows her more fragile side and the suffering of the character. Lawrance is an excellent acting professional, with work in film, television and theater. She was one of the stars of the Undercover mini-series in 2016 and of the BBC's King Charles III. Her next work is in pre-production, a film entitled "Silent Twins".
Actor Jack Lowden plays Thomas, the young man who lives in the Mansion and was raised as a son by Margaret. He has a dark past in which Margaret played an important role, almost making us think that he was induced by her to murder his own father. He seems to have good feelings towards Charlotte and wants her to obey, he doesn't want to hurt her, but Margaret has a great control over him, who is a young man with a disturbed mind. He is an actor with an extensive background in British television, and has worked in several films, including Calibre, Capone and Dunkirk.
Fiona Shaw, that wonderful actress, is in charge of giving life to Margaret, an aristocrat, who is totally crazy, with the death of her son, it will get worse. She doesn't want Charlotte to leave, she wants her to have the baby at home and be part of the family, it will be her only grandchild and the memory of her recently deceased son. She will use all her power to make her wishes come true. Fiona Shaw has an extraordinary career, some remember her from the Harry Potter saga, but lately she is recognized for her character in Killing Eve and the comedy Fleabag. I think she is the perfect actress to be the villain of this story.
The other important actors that appear in the film are Edward Holcroft in Ben's character. We have seen the actor as the character Charles "Charlie" Hesketh in both films of the Kingsman saga. Actor Anton Lesser, who has a great acting career, plays Dr. Richards and Chloe Pirrie plays the character called Jane and apparently a friend of Charlotte's.

Kindred is a psychological thriller, set in a remote village in England, whose oppressive atmosphere makes remarkable a story that we have seen in other occasions, but that the situations and the actors, will make us enjoy it.
