There are stories entertaining enough to enjoy. It doesn't matter that the story isn't entirely original and that we've seen many similar things before.The key lies in how the filmmaker translates the story into images and the pacing they create, making it interesting and keeping you hooked.
I saw this film a while ago, without high expectations or much of an idea of what it was about, and although it won't go down in cinematic history, it has enough going for it to warrant a recommendation. It's a story with intrigue and suspense, and as it unfolds, surprising revelations and twists emerge.
I love unexpected twists, and perhaps that's why I liked the film. Although from the beginning there's something in the air that feels off. We sense, and soon realize, that many are lying. There's something strange about the house the two brothers arrive at, even though it's just a mother with her young daughter and her husband, who is completely paralyzed by an illness. The entire opening section, where the two criminal brothers arrive at a house where these women seem quite vulnerable, sees the brothers becoming increasingly menacing. But here, no one is free of secrets, and little by little, we, along with one of the criminals, realize that not everything is as it seems.
The film initially appears to be a home invasion story, even incorporating touches of action and scenes that fit the horror genre. It's a combination that could have gone very wrong, but it ultimately works well, giving us an entertaining product.
The film's director is Matthias Hoene, an American who had already ventured into the horror genre, but with less than brilliant results. This was his fifth production, and so far, I think it's his best film. Now, we should keep an eye out for his next project, scheduled for release next year. Me encantan los giros inesperados, y quizás por eso me gustó la película. Aunque desde el principio hay algo en el ambiente que da mala espina. Intuimos, y pronto nos damos cuenta, de que muchos mienten.
