The western genre may not be as popular as in the past, but it is always present with new productions for viewers like me, who enjoy a good story set in the American wild west.

The history of the conquest of the American West is full of injustice and death, millions of people, from different Indian tribes, were annihilated, a planned, systematic extermination, some Native Americans were even used by the army, having to turn their backs on their own, with the promise of land, but they were only promises that were not intended to be fulfilled.
The white man arrived from Europe and claimed as his own lands that did not belong to him, displacing their true owners and implanting his culture. Thus a nation was formed and during the whole period called the gold rush, the massive arrival of people from the other continent intensified, everyone wanted to make a new life in a virgin territory, but at the same time very dangerous.
I always remember the documentary Bowling for Columbine by Michael Moore where he explains that America was built on fear, fear was always used as a form of impulse to enter into conflict with the unknown, hence the displacement and death of so many indigenous tribes stripped of something that rightfully belonged to them.
It is essential to keep this in mind when watching this miniseries of six intense episodes, set in a time where there was still an indigenous population that was persecuted, some with a little luck would end up accepting their new name and the destiny they chose to survive, others, unfortunately never saw anything but death.
I also want to re-emphasize ideas that I have expressed in other opportunities, you have to see the differences between what happened in North America and what happened in the regions colonized by the Spanish, where there were also massacres of indigenous people who resisted to be conquered, I cannot deny something that is documented, each country in Latin America has its history, but in most of them also ended up mixing races, on the other hand in the north it was totally the opposite.
The English is written and directed by Hugo Blick, a British filmmaker who captivated me about ten years ago, when I had the opportunity to see the miniseries The Shadow line, which I recommend, not only that one, but all the other miniseries directed by Blick. When I saw that he was in charge of The English, I did not hesitate to watch it, I knew it would be a quality production and I enjoyed it in one day.
La historia de la conquista del oeste americano está llena de injusticia y muerte, millones de personas, de diferentes tribus indias, fueron aniquiladas, un exterminio planificado, sistemático, algunos nativos americanos fueron incluso utilizados por el ejército, teniendo que dar la espalda a los suyos, con la promesa de tierras, pero solo fueron promesas que no se pretendían cumplir.
El hombre blanco llegó de Europa y reclamó como suyas tierras que no le pertenecían, desplazando a sus verdaderos dueños e implantando su cultura. Así se formó una nación y durante todo el periodo que se llamó la fiebre del oro, se intensificó la llegada masiva de gente del otro continente, todos querían hacer una nueva vida en un territorio virgen, pero a la vez muy peligroso.
Siempre recuerdo el documental Bowling for Columbine de Michael Moore donde explica que América se construyó sobre el miedo, el miedo siempre se utilizó como forma de impulso para entrar en conflicto con lo desconocido, de ahí el desplazamiento y muerte de tantas tribus indígenas despojados de algo que por derecho les pertenecía.
Es imprescindible tener esto en cuenta a la hora de ver esta miniserie de seis intensos episodios, ambientada en una época donde todavía existía población indígena que era perseguida, algunos con un poco de suerte acabarían aceptando su nuevo nombre y el destino que eligieron para sobrevivir, otros, desgraciadamente nunca vieron nada más que la muerte.
También quiero volver a recalcar ideas que he expresado en otras oportunidades, hay que ver las diferencias entre lo que pasó en Norteamérica y lo que pasó en las regiones colonizadas por los españoles, donde también hubo masacres de indígenas que se resistieron a ser conquistados, no puedo negar algo que está documentado, cada país de Latinoamérica tiene su historia, pero en la mayoría también se terminaron mezclando las razas, en cambio en el norte fue totalmente lo contrario.
The English está escrita y dirigida por Hugo Blick, un cineasta británico que me cautivó hace unos diez años, cuando tuve la oportunidad de ver la miniserie The Shadow line, la cual recomiendo, no solo esa, sino todas las demás miniseries dirigidas por Blick. Cuando vi que se encargaba de The English, no dudé en verla, sabía que sería una producción de calidad y la disfruté en un solo día.
Blick uses a story of revenge to also make a historical review of one of America's most savage eras, so that we do not forget and feel respect for all the lives unjustly lost because of greed and thirst for power.
What is the plot?
Lady Cornelia Locke leaves the comfort of her native Britain, where she has property and money, to embark on a journey to America in the late nineteenth century, from her dress and demeanor one can deduce that she is a woman of education and refined tastes. Beyond the dangers that the protagonists must face, the most attractive thing for me is how these two people from such distant places converge, who must sacrifice their love because evil beings, moved by greed, were in charge of destroying them. . The first episode may seem a little strange, all the characters do not appear at the beginning, but as each episode progresses we will discover the relationship and the facts, at the same time we are shown the wildest side of a land where weapons impose the law.
Emily Blunt
I dare to assure that this actress gives a more attractive aura to the mini series, she is one of the actresses that possesses magnetism and that any character she plays, she does it in a way that captivates the viewer. So it is in this case, she is the main protagonist of the story and she was also involved in the production.
She had to like the project a lot, besides, her character is complex, because she must convey fragility and at the same time be self-confident, she gives several layers to her character, we are not facing the stereotype of a tough girl from the wild west, of course she has scenes in which she must be able to overcome challenges and have strength, but inside she is someone who suffers, who struggles internally with the tragedy of her life and seeks strength to achieve her revenge.
She was another reason why I didn't hesitate for a moment to watch the series. It's not about her beauty, it's her talent as an actress, creating a sensitive character who gallantly accepts that her fate will be very tragic and she will have to give up happiness.
Her partner in the miniseries is actor Chaske Spencer, who many will remember for the Twilight saga, but I remember him for his participation in the demented series Banshee. I have nothing to criticize, on the contrary, I loved his character, he fits perfectly and has good chemistry with Emily Blunt. Sergeant Eli Whipp is the character he plays, a soldier who has seen too much death. Although it can be said that he is somewhat inexpressive, the character deserved to be, to give that mystical essence of the indigenous tribes and their culture.
Danger, obstacles, secrets, death, love, both must face an adventure that means to reach the fixed destination, kill a man so she can do justice and follow her path to try to be free in a world that seems to condemn her to wear chains. Friends, when we reach the end of the road we will ask ourselves why is the world so cruel?
The English is a hypnotic western, a story of revenge and impossible love that will also take us through a part of American history that we must not forget, through the cultures devastated by greed, through the blood of the innocent, through the memory of all the fallen.

En este western la tragedia nos será contada a cuentagotas, las partes de este cuadro se van mostrando en cada episodio, hasta que tengamos una visión global de todo el panorama. Un inglés que ha progresado en un pueblo recién fundado, extrañas muertes de habitantes de ese pueblo que parecen tener un pasado común, una inglesa que quiere venganza, un indio que busca la paz y una historia de amor marcada por la tragedia y lo imposible.
¿Por qué las historias de amor más bellas están marcadas por algo trágico? Más allá de los peligros a los que deben enfrentarse los protagonistas, lo más atractivo para mí es cómo convergen estas dos personas de lugares tan distantes, que deben sacrificar su amor porque seres malvados, movidos por la codicia, se encargaron de destruirlos . El primer episodio puede parecer un poco extraño, todos los personajes no aparecen al principio, pero a medida que avanza cada episodio descubriremos la relación y los hechos, al mismo tiempo se nos muestra el lado más salvaje de unas tierra donde las armas imponen la ley.
Emily Blunt
Me atrevo a asegurar que esta actriz le da un aura más atractiva a la mini serie, es una de las actrices que posee magnetismo y que cualquier personaje que interpreta, lo hace de una manera que cautiva al espectador. Así es en este caso, ella es la protagonista principal de la historia y además estuvo involucrada en la producción.
Le tenía que gustar mucho el proyecto, además, su personaje es complejo, porque debe transmitir fragilidad y a la vez ser segura de sí misma, le da varias capas a su personaje, no estamos ante el estereotipo de chica dura del salvaje oeste, por supuesto que tiene escenas en las que debe ser capaz de superar retos y tener fuerza, pero por dentro es alguien que sufre, que lucha internamente con la tragedia de su vida y que busca fuerzas para lograr su venganza.
Ella fue otra de las razones por las que no dudé ni un momento en ver la serie. No se trata de su belleza, es su talento como actriz, creando un personaje sensible que acepta con gallardía que su destino será muy trágico y tendrá que renunciar a la felicidad.
Su compañero en la miniserie es el actor Chaske Spencer, a quien muchos recordarán por la saga Crepúsculo, pero yo lo recuerdo por su participación en la demencial serie Banshee. No tengo nada que criticar, al contrario, me encantó su personaje, encaja a la perfección y tiene buena química con Emily Blunt. El sargento Eli Whipp es el personaje que interpreta, un soldado que ha visto demasiada muerte. Aunque se puede decir que es algo inexpresivo, el personaje merecía serlo, para dar esa esencia mística de las tribus indígenas y su cultura.
Peligro, obstáculos, secretos, muerte, amor, ambos deberán enfrentarse a una aventura que significa llegar al destino fijad, matar a un hombre para que ella pueda hacer justicia y seguir su camino para intentar ser libre en un mundo que parece condenarle a llevar cadenas. Amigos, cuando lleguemos al final del camino nos preguntaremos ¿por qué el mundo es tan cruel?
The English es un western hipnótico, una historia de venganza y amor imposible que también nos hará un repaso por una parte de la historia americana que no debemos olvidar, por las culturas devastadas por la codicia, por la sangre de los inocentes, por la memoria de todos los caídos.
