After a long time, I have started watching this series that had been recommended to me and that I had not paid much attention to. My opinions are based only on the first season, the second one I will watch soon, since the third batch of episodes will be released in September.

After watching the first episode I was hooked. The pilot introduces us to the two main characters of the story, the dynamics of work within the morning TV show, the personalities of each important character are established and the conflict that will last throughout the season is shown.
The first five episodes of the first season seem excellent to me, each episode leaves us wanting to know more about the characters, their lives, their past. Although it is after that half where come a couple of weak episodes, where time is wasted in subplots and situations that could cover less time. The main plot advances slowly in this part, to gain momentum in the last two episodes.
However, despite that slight dip from the middle and that there are parts of the narrative that seemed forced to me, especially in the season finale, which I will explain later, I found The Morning Show an entertaining series, with great moments and with actors focused on giving the best of themselves to make their characters believable.
What I like most about the series is that it dares to be self-critical of the American television industry and also takes aim at Hollywood. The main conflict is the systematic abuse of power for sexual purposes present not only in show business. These bad practices by men and women are present in any work environment. From the owner of a small business to the largest corporation in the world, through the political environment and even the military.
Obviously The Morning Show focuses on women victims, making direct reference to the MeToo movement and the scandal of monsters like Weinstein, one of the predatory lovers of the American film industry who wielded absolute power in Hollywood. Although the story is set in a TV show, it reminded me a lot of the case of the other predator Roger Ailes, who was the king of the Fox News network and for years used his power to commit sexual abuse.
Although I applaud the telling of such stories that are at the same time a critique of the very system in which those involved in this series work, I still feel a certain double standard in all this and that it is intended to clean up the image after most of them kept quiet about the abuses that everyone knew were happening, but preferred to look the other way. Certainly that is also addressed in the story, Mitch's character tells many truths, unpleasant ones, but they are truths that happen. It is here that I detect a small fissure in the transmission of the message.
Después de ver el primer episodio quedé enganchado. El piloto nos presenta los dos personajes principales de la historia, la dinámica de trabajo dentro del programa matutino de televisión, se establecen las personalidades de cada personaje importante y se muestra el conflicto que perdurará a lo largo de la temporada.
Los primeros cinco episodios de la primera temporada me parecen excelentes, cada episodio nos deja con ganas de saber más sobre los personajes , su vida, su pasado. Aunque es posterior a esa mitad donde vienen un par de episodios flojos, donde se pierde el tiempo en subtramas y situaciones que podrían abarcar menos tiempo. La trama principal avanza lentamente en esta parte, para tomar impulso en los dos últimos episodios.
Sin embargo, a pesar de ese ligero bajón a partir de la mitad y de que hay partes de la narración que me parecieron forzadas, sobre todo en el final de temporada, que explicaré más adelante, The Morning Show me pareció una serie entretenida, con grandes momentos y con unos actores centrados en dar lo mejor de sí mismos para hacer creíbles a sus personajes.
Lo que más me gusta de la serie es que se atreve a hacer autocrítica de la industria televisiva estadounidense y también apunta a Hollywood. El conflicto principal es el abuso sistemático del poder con fines sexuales presente no sólo en el mundo del espectáculo. Estas malas prácticas por parte de hombres y mujeres están presentes en cualquier entorno laboral. Desde el propietario de una pequeña empresa hasta la mayor corporación del mundo, pasando por el entorno político e incluso militar.
Evidentemente The Morning Show se centra en las mujeres víctimas, haciendo referencia directa al movimiento MeToo y al escándalo de monstruos como Weinstein, uno de los amantes depredadores de la industria cinematográfica estadounidense que ostentaba el poder absoluto en Hollywood. Aunque la historia está ambientada en un programa de televisión, me recordó mucho al caso del otro depredador Roger Ailes, que fue el rey de la cadena Fox News y durante años utilizó su poder para cometer abusos sexuales.

Ciertamente eso también se aborda en la historia, el personaje de Mitch dice muchas verdades, desagradables, pero son verdades que ocurren. Es aquí donde detecto una pequeña fisura en la transmisión del mensaje.

The series does not want to show something that also happens: that of women and men who know what they are getting into in this type of industry. The convictions, in real life , to the culprits show that there are scumbags who take advantage of their position of power for sexual purposes. I find this abhorrent and they deserve to be punished with the maximum penalty that corresponds to this crime. But we should not ignore that there are women and men who want to move up in this world and already have in mind to use their bodies to get what they want and achieve success. Many people have reached the top in this way. We cannot cover the sun with a finger.
There is a subplot, that of the young journalist who has a romantic relationship with the man of the time who is twice her age Claire and Yanko), where I found absurd the way her character starts to doubt if the relationship with her is right, that is, the character feels that he is an abuser because he is superior in hierarchy and has relations with her, when it is a consensual relationship between two adults. Ah, they both work in the same place, it depends on the rules and policies of the company what they have to do, but I see no reason for the male character to feel guilty, he is not doing anything wrong, but the subliminal message it sends is to want us to feel guilty even in a consensual relationship, that was my reading.
By the way, it is one of the subplots that from my point of view takes up a lot of space in the second half, when it was better to delve into the world of television and see the behind the scenes of the production of the show. It's when everything takes place in the TV network building that my interest increases. I hope in season two (and season three) they delve more into it, I have stayed away from spoilers, I don't know what the opinions of season two are .
La serie sería perfecta si mostrara las dos caras de la moneda. Las condenas, en la vida real , a los culpables demuestran que hay cabrones que se aprovechan de su posición de poder con fines sexuales. Esto me parece aberrante y merecen ser castigados con la pena máxima que corresponda a este delito. Pero no debemos ignorar que hay mujeres y hombres que quieren ascender en este mundo y ya tienen en mente utilizar su cuerpo para conseguir lo que desean y alcanzar el éxito. Muchas personas han llegado a la cima de esta manera. No podemos tapar el sol con un dedo
Hay una subtrama, la de la joven periodista que mantiene una relación amorosa con el hombre del tiempo que le dobla la edad Claire y Yanko), donde me pareció absurda la forma en que su personaje empieza a dudar si la relación con ella es correcta, es decir, el personaje siente que es un abusador porque es superior en jerarquía y tiene relaciones con ella, cuando es una relación consentida entre dos adultos. Ah, ambos laboran en el mismo lugar, depende de las normas y políticas de la empresa lo que tengan que hacer, pero no veo motivos para que sienta culpa el personaje masculino, no está haciendo nada malo, pero el mensaje subliminal que manda es querer que nos sintamos culpables incluso en una relación consentida, esa fue mi lectura.
Por cierto, es una de las subtramas que desde mi punto de vista ocupa mucho espacio en la segunda mitad, cuando era mejor profundizar en el mundo de la televisión y ver los entretelones de la producción del programa. Es cuando todo transcurre en el edificio de la cadena de televisión cuando aumenta mi interés. Espero que en la segunda temporada (y en la tercera) profundicen más en ello, me he mantenido al margen de spoilers, no se cuales son las opiniones de la segunda temporada. .

The scenes inside the television studio and the offices are dynamic, it favors the rhythm, with intelligent characters with sequences of people walking and talking. After watching the first season I understood why it has won awards for its cast at past Emmy ceremonies. The stars of the series are Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. The two make an excellent duo, playing Alex and Bradley. It is the rivalry between them, although there are small doses of sincere closeness, that is enjoyable. At first glance, they are two women from different backgrounds who clash in the way they each view their professions.

Mitch is the character directly involved in the conflict of the story. The character repulses me with some of his phrases, plus his behavior is of the type of abusers who think they are above good and evil. Many things he says have some truth to them, because that's how he sees them and in the real world they happen that way. What I loved is that he suffers from being execrated, ignored and discarded by all those who claimed to love him. It's so real, it's what happens to all those who only surround themselves with sycophants, people who throw their bad jokes at him, people who say they love him, that he's the best, but as soon as they see him stumble and fall, they'll turn their backs on him and someone will take the opportunity to stick a knife in him. That's how they all end up blinded by not seeing the reality of their actions.
The Morning Show is an amusing series whose main premise is a problem that still exists and where the culprits are not only those who perpetrate it, but also those who remain silent, look the other way and dare not do anything against abuses of any kind. The society of accomplices reflected in this fictional microcosm.

Asi acaban todos cegados por no ver la realidad de sus actos.
The Morning Show es una divertida serie cuya premisa principal es un problema que aún se da y donde los culpables no son sólo los que lo perpetran, sino también los que callan, miran para otro lado y no se atreven a hacer nada contra los abusos de cualquier tipo. La sociedad de los cómplices reflejada en este microcosmos ficticio.
