The Reborn (Los Renacidos)

We continue with Argentine cinema, and today I'm presenting a police thriller that kept me glued to my seat. It's the kind of story that appeals to me, and this one has that Argentine touch, so I couldn't miss it. I used to watch these kinds of movies frequently when I rented VHS tapes. They're not the kind you hear a lot about, but they're entertaining and keep you on the edge of your seat.

When I took a class with an old screenwriter who taught courses in my city a long time ago, he explained to me that every conflict in a story intensifies according to the closeness of the characters. If those in conflict are cousins, partners, or siblings, etc., the stronger the bond that unites them, the greater the conflict and the more powerful it becomes within the story.

In this film, it's clear that it follows those rules common to many screenplays. The two protagonists are brothers estranged for a long time and with a kind of rivalry, since, apparently, one of them was their father's favorite when he taught them to play with death through chemistry.

The story revolves around how they perform jobs for people who need to fake their deaths, whether to start a new life, escape problems or debts, or, ironically, to survive. Especially if their enemy is a drug cartel, relentless in its pursuit of justice.

It's a good police thriller, with all the genre's clichés: mobsters, corrupt cops, betrayals, ambition, death, and, of course, our antihero forced to accept one last job for money. What seems like a simple task always ends up getting complicated. You know the drill, the usual stuff, but that doesn't matter; if it's done well, the result is an entertaining film.

I liked the settings, those rocky and arid landscapes, the highways. That gives the story a grittier feel, and it has good shootouts and death scenes. The film is directed by Santiago Esteves, a filmmaker whose only previous work I've seen is "The King's Education." I think he does a good job; It doesn't fall into melodrama or unnecessarily lengthen the narrative. It gets straight to the point, without pauses or delays. It knows what audiences of this genre want to see.

The trailer reveals a lot, so I recommend not watching it. I'm only including it here for those who don't mind spoilers and enjoy watching trailers before seeing a movie. Continuamos con el cine argentino, y hoy les presento un thriller policíaco que me mantuvo pegado a la butaca. Es el tipo de historia que me atrae, y esta tiene ese toque argentino, así que no podía perdérmela. Solía ​​ver este tipo de películas con frecuencia cuando alquilaba cintas VHS. No son de las que se oye hablar mucho, pero son entretenidas y te mantienen en vilo.

Cuando tomé una clase con un viejo guionista que impartía cursos en mi ciudad hace mucho tiempo, me explicó que cada conflicto en una historia se intensifica según la cercanía de los personajes. Los dos protagonistas son hermanos distanciados desde hace mucho tiempo y con una especie de rivalidad, ya que, al parecer, uno de ellos era el favorito de su padre cuando les enseñó a jugar con la muerte a través de la química.

La historia gira en torno a cómo realizan trabajos para personas que necesitan fingir su muerte, ya sea para empezar una nueva vida, escapar de problemas o deudas, o, irónicamente, para sobrevivir. Especialmente si su enemigo es un cártel de drogas, implacable en su búsqueda de justicia.

Es un buen thriller criminal, con todos los clichés del género: mafiosos, policías corruptos, traiciones, ambición, muerte y, por supuesto, nuestro antihéroe obligado a aceptar un último trabajo por dinero. Lo que parece una tarea sencilla siempre termina complicándose. Ya saben cómo va la cosa, lo de siempre, pero eso no importa; si está bien hecho, el resultado es una película entretenida.

Me gustaron los escenarios, esos paisajes rocosos y áridos, las carreteras. Eso le da a la historia un toque más crudo, y tiene buenos tiroteos y escenas de muerte. La película está dirigida por Santiago Esteves, un cineasta cuyo único trabajo anterior que he visto es "La educación del rey". Creo que hace un buen trabajo; no cae en el melodrama ni alarga innecesariamente la narrativa. Va directo al grano, sin pausas ni digresiones. Sabe lo que el público de este género quiere ver.

El tráiler revela mucho, así que recomiendo no verlo. Solo lo incluyo aquí para quienes no les importan los spoilers y disfrutan viendo tráileres antes de ver una película.
