Mafia and forbidden love. An excellent combination for a violent drama. I saw this movie a while ago, but I'd been meaning to write a review. One of my favorite genres is the mafia genre. That criminal world, full of internal codes that must be respected, where any mistake can lead to a massacre. A world full of men who supposedly have honor, even though they have no qualms about killing anyone. There's a lot of irony in that.

This movie is inspired by a book by two Italian journalists. Carlo Bonini and Julian Foschini are the journalists, and their book is based on real events they investigated. Of course, the movie only takes elements from the book to create this adaptation and mixes them with fictional elements.

It was with this movie that I discovered that there is another Italian mafia even more violent than the 'Ndrangheta. Yes, because the Italian mafias are divided by region, and each one has its own name. The Camorra, Cosa Nostra, and 'Ndrangheta are currently the most popular mafias in film and television, especially the first two, as I've seen more films focused on the 'Ndrangheta in recent years.

The film is set in another mafia, the one that dominates the Gargano region. From what we see in the film, it's a fairly rural area, with mountains and somewhat arid terrain. This mafia is called the Società Foggiana, and the film addresses the rivalry between two criminal clans that comprise it: the Malatesta on one side, and the Camporeale on the other. The opening scenes transport us to clashes that date back several years.

The forbidden, that which shouldn't be touched, not even looked at, as the protagonist says. But carnal desire is something that can be overcome. Human beings are like that, passionate and prone to succumbing to the temptations of the most ardent desire. And if we place that desire within the context of two feuding families who hate each other to death, the result will be an explosion of violence. Death, revenge. There's nothing new in these kinds of stories, but I find them fascinating.

You're probably thinking, "Ah, this is like Romeo and Juliet." No, it's not. Although, of course, the plot might lead us to think so. Here, the protagonists aren't two teenagers in love, and as I already mentioned, it's inspired by real events recounted in the book that gave rise to this story.

The film is in black and white. I really liked it because the cinematography is fabulous; that black and white enhances the violent tone of the story. Although this might scare some viewers, because I don't think younger people would want to see something in black and white, those who admire cinematography will appreciate the art of making a film in black and white.

The female lead is Elodie. She's better known as a singer, but she's also dabbled in acting. I have no criticism of her; she does a great job. I like her character, all her changes and her development throughout the story. She also possesses that exotic beauty and a gaze that looks spectacular in black and white. There's power in her eyes.

There's nothing more than a mafia story, with its violent elements. In this one, the violence is quite intense, and that captivated me. It's the kind of story I never tire of watching. I don't care that there are thousands of similar stories; I'm there, enjoying them.

Mafia y amor prohibido. Una excelente combinación para un drama violento. Vi esta película hace tiempo, pero tenía pensado escribir una reseña. Uno de mis géneros favoritos es el de la mafia. Ese mundo criminal, lleno de códigos internos que deben respetarse, donde cualquier error puede provocar una masacre. Un mundo lleno de hombres que supuestamente tienen honor, aunque no tengan reparos en matar a quien sea. Hay mucha ironía en eso.

Esta película está inspirada en un libro de dos periodistas italianos. Carlo Bonini y Julian Foschini son los periodistas, y su libro se basa en hechos reales que investigaron. Por supuesto, la película solo toma elementos del libro para crear esta adaptación y los mezcla con elementos ficticios.

Fue con esta película que descubrí que existe otra mafia italiana aún más violenta que la 'Ndrangheta. Sí, porque las mafias italianas están divididas por regiones y cada una tiene su propio nombre. La Camorra, la Cosa Nostra y la 'Ndrangheta son actualmente las mafias más populares en el cine y la televisión, especialmente las dos primeras, ya que en los últimos años he visto más películas centradas en la 'Ndrangheta.

La película se ambienta en otra mafia, la que domina la región del Gargano. Por lo que se ve en la película, es una zona bastante rural, con montañas y un terreno algo árido. Esta mafia se llama Società Foggiana, y la película aborda la rivalidad entre dos clanes criminales que la integran: por un lado, los Malatesta, y por el otro, los Camporeale. Las primeras imágenes nos transportan a enfrentamientos que se remontan a varios años atrás.

Lo prohibido, aquello que no se debe tocar, ni siquiera mirar, como dice la protagonista. Pero el deseo carnal es algo que se puede vencer. Los seres humanos somos así, apasionados y propensos a sucumbir a las tentaciones del deseo más ardiente. Y si situamos ese deseo en el seno de dos familias enemistadas que se odian a muerte, el resultado será una explosión de violencia. Muerte, venganza. No hay nada nuevo en este tipo de historias, pero me resultan fascinantes.

Probablemente estés pensando: «Ah, esto es como Romeo y Julieta». No, no es así. Aunque, claro, la trama podría llevarnos a pensarlo. Aquí, los protagonistas no son dos adolescentes enamorados, y como ya dije, está inspirada en hechos reales narrados en el libro que dio origen a esta historia.

La película es en blanco y negro. Me gustó mucho porque la cinematografía es fabulosa; ese blanco y negro realza el tono violento de la historia. Aunque esto podría asustar a algunos espectadores, porque no creo que a los más jóvenes les apetezca ver algo en blanco y negro, quienes admiran la fotografía cinematográfica apreciarán el arte de hacer una película en blanco y negro.

La protagonista femenina es Elodie. Es más conocida como cantante, pero también ha incursionado en la actuación. No tengo ninguna crítica hacia ella; lo hace muy bien. Me gusta su personaje, todos sus cambios y su desarrollo a lo largo de la historia, además de que posee esa belleza exótica y una mirada que luce espectacular en blanco y negro. Hay poder en su mirada.

No hay más que una historia sobre la mafia, con sus elementos violentos. En esta, la violencia es bastante intensa, y eso me cautivó. Es el tipo de historia que nunca me canso de ver. No me importa que haya miles de historias similares; ahí estoy, disfrutándolas.
