Hello everyone, dear community of The Anime Realm. I hope you are doing great today... this time I want to share with you a new review with my opinions about an anime that surprised me in a good way... it is the anime called Great Pretender, from the first episode I was totally hooked by the striking visual style and the plot of this series. This anime is an adrenaline roller coaster that I feel like it doesn't let go until the end, the first thing that stands out is its incredible artwork.

This series has super bright colors that create a unique aesthetic that transports you to a whole new and different world that many of us are sure to be used to... it has a very characteristic style of Netflix series that is quite appreciated. The skies are incredible and the cityscapes are full of contrasts that are truly a feast for the eyes, it's super refreshing to see a series that dares to experiment so much with color and visual composition. The WIT studio that animated this series definitely did a great job with all the artwork and character designs that are really charismatic. Speaking of the characters, the main cast of this series is one of its strongest points.
To begin with we have to talk about Makoto Edamura who is our protagonist and who starts out as a small time con man in Japan and ends up involved in elaborate international schemes to pull off giant sized scams, he was a con man who wasn't into getting into big trouble but once he meets Laurent, who is a French con man his life changes completely.... This guy is a member of some kind of organization that is dedicated to scams, but at much higher levels than Edamura was used to... soon we will also meet Abby and Cynthia who complement this curious team with some very interesting skills and backgrounds, creating a unique and fun team...

Espero que se encuentren super bien el día de hoy.. en esta ocasión les quiero compartir una nueva reseña con mis opiniones sobre un anime que me sorprendió bastante de buena manera.. se trata del anime llamado Great Pretender, desde el primer episodio quedé totalmente enganchado por el estilo visual tan llamativo y la trama de esta serie. Este anime es una montaña rusa de adrenalina que siento que no te suelta hasta el final, lo primero que resalta es su increíble apartado artístico.
Esta serie tiene unos colores super brillantes que crean una estética única que te transporta a un mundo totalmente nuevo y diferente al que muchos seguros estaremos acostumbrados... tiene un estilo muy característico de las series de Netflix que se aprecia bastante. Los cielos son increíbles y los paisajes urbanos están llenos de contrastes que son realmente un festín para los ojos, es super refrescante ver una serie que se atreve a experimentar tanto con el color y la composición visual. El estudio WIT que animó esta serie definitivamente sé lucio con toda la parte artística y con los diseños de unos personajes que son realmente carismáticos. Hablando de los personajes, el elenco principal de esta serie es de sus mayores puntos fuertes.
Para empezar hay que hablar de Makoto Edamura quien es nuestro protagonista y que empieza siendo un estafador de poca monta en Japón y termina envuelto en elaborados planes internacionales para llevar a cabo estafas de tamaño gigantesco, él era un estafador que no se dedicaba a meterse en grandes problemas pero una vez conoce a Laurent, quien es un estafador francés su vida cambia por completo.. Este tipo es miembro de una especie de organización que se dedica a las estafas, pero a niveles mucho más altos a los que estaba acostumbrado Edamura.. pronto conoceremos también a Abby y a Cynthia quienes complementan a este curioso equipo con unas habilidades y trasfondos muy interesantes, creando un equipo único y divertido..

The dynamic between these characters is great... they have super witty dialogues, but also very funny. Little by little we discover each other's secrets and motivations, which gives a lot of depth to their story. The antagonists are also very well constructed, some are quite detestable and you just can't help but hate them. And well, I think the plot is divided in a very interesting and effective way into various cases or arcs, each one focused on an elaborate scam in different parts of the world, I loved how the plans are revealed little by little, keeping the suspense until the end, just when the viewer thinks they have everything figured out, or has an idea of how the scams will be carried out, the story takes a totally unexpected turn.
The scenarios change in a very good way from city to city, which gives it a unique touch of international adventure that mainly caught my attention. Another remarkable aspect is the incredible soundtrack that this series has... the jazz music fits mostly perfectly with the whole atmosphere of the series and the scams, it helps to create a tension between the key moments that were undoubtedly my favorite moments... Also the opening is very dynamic and catchy, with clear references to robbery or scam movies... and what to say about the ending, it's incredible to hear Freddie Mercury again and I thought it was incredible to see him in an anime ending, I think the song is simply perfect.

La dinámica entre estos personajes es genial... tienen diálogos súper ingeniosos, pero también muy cómicos. Poco a poco vamos descubriendo los secretos y motivaciones de cada uno, lo que les da mucha profundidad a su historia. Los antagonistas también están muy bien construidos, algunos son bastante detestables y simplemente no puedes evitar odiarlos. Y bueno, creo que la trama se divide de una manera muy interesante y efectiva en diversos casos o arcos, cada uno centrado en una estafa elaborada en diferentes partes del mundo, me encantó cómo se van revelando los planes poco a poco, manteniendo el suspenso hasta el final, justo cuando el espectador cree que lo tiene todo resuelto, o tiene una idea de cómo se llevarán a cabo las estafas, la historia da un giro totalmente inesperado.
Los escenarios van cambiando de manera muy buena de ciudad a otra, lo que le da un toque de aventura internacional único que a mí principalmente me llamó mucho la atención. Otro aspecto destacable es la increíble banda sonora que tiene esta serie.. la música de jazz encaja mayormente de manera perfecta con toda la atmósfera de la serie y las estafas, ayuda a crear una tensión entre los momentos claves que sin duda eran de mis momentos favoritos.. También el opening es muy dinámico y pegajoso, con claras referencias al cine de robos o estafas.. y qué decir del ending, es increíble volver a escuchar a Freddie Mercury y me pareció increíble verlo en un ending de un anime, creo que la canción es simplemente perfecta.

It's great how Great Pretender manages to balance all the action and humor with some pretty emotional moments, there are a lot of funny scenes and crazy plans worthy of a Hollywood movie, but it's also good how it touches on some of the characters' traumatic pasts and all their internal struggles. It's not just any old scam anime, but I think it's a story that encompasses a lot of redemption, trust, and how it's possible to find family in the most unexpected places... each arc delves deeper into the past of a specific character, which helps us a lot to understand their motivations and feel empathy for them. I was really surprised by how emotional some scenes can be, considering the generally comedic tone of the series, it's good to know that this series isn't afraid to touch on intense themes like abuse, corruption and social injustices.
If I had to say something that I didn't like very much, I would say that sometimes some of the plans seemed implausible and a bit silly to believe how some of the victims managed to fall so easily into them, I think they make certain characters look very incredulous, but I guess that's part of the charm of the genre. In my case, I would have also developed more some secondary characters that, although they appear briefly, deserved much more screen time. As for the pace, this series maintains an incredible balance between action moments and comedic scenes. I never felt that it decayed or became boring, I think that the 23 episodes fly by and that says a lot to say about the quality of this series.

Es genial como Great Pretender logra equilibrar toda la acción y el humor con unos momentos bastante emotivos, hay muchas escenas divertidas y planes locos dignos de una película de Hollywood, pero también es bueno como se tocan algunos pasados traumáticos de los personajes y todas sus luchas internas. No es solo un anime de estafas cualquiera, sino creo que es una historia que engloba mucho la redención, la confianza, y como es posible encontrar una familia en lugares menos inesperados.. cada arco profundiza en el pasado de un personaje específico, lo que nos ayuda mucho a entender sus motivaciones y a sentir empatía por ellos. Me sorprendió realmente lo emotivas que pueden ser algunas escenas, considerando el tono generalmente cómico que tiene la serie, es bueno saber que esta serie no tiene miedo de tocar temas intensos como el abuso, la corrupción y las injusticias sociales..
Si tuviera que ponerle algo que no me gustó mucho, diría que a veces unos planes me parecieron inverosímiles y un poco tontos para creer como algunos de las víctimas lograron caer tan fácilmente en estos, creo que hacen ver a ciertos personajes con mucha incredulidad, pero supongo que eso es parte del encanto del género. Yo en mi caso también hubiera desarrollado más a algunos personajes secundarios que, aunque aparecen brevemente, merecían mucho más tiempo en pantalla.. en cuanto al ritmo, esta serie mantiene un increíble balance entre momentos de acción y escenas cómicas. Nunca sentí que decayera o se me hiciera aburrida, creo que los 23 episodios se te pasan volando y eso deja mucho que decir de la calidad de esta serie.

One aspect that I really liked is how the series plays with the viewer’s expectations, often making us believe one thing only to later reveal that it was all part of a much bigger plan. It’s fun to try to guess what will happen and it’s interesting to see how we almost always end up surprised. I think it also gives us an interesting context about cultural and social differences and all the different prejudices that exist in the world. By having an international cast we see some clashes and misunderstandings between characters from different backgrounds, but in the end they all learn to work together. I think this anime is truly a gem, I hope it gets a lot more attention and recognition.
It’s amazing, it has such an interesting premise and a really solid execution, it keeps you hooked from start to finish with interesting plot twists, charismatic characters and of course animation and visuals that are above average… if you like stories about perfect heists, scams, with a lot of intelligent humor, this series is for you. You can’t miss it. It's a roller coaster that will surely make you laugh, surprise you a lot and possibly even bring a few tears to your eyes. My final rating is a powerful 9.5/10. Un aspecto que me gustó bastante es cómo la serie juega con las expectativas del espectador, a menudo nos hace creer una cosa para luego revelarnos que todo era parte de un plan mucho más grande. Es divertido tratar de adivinar qué pasará y es interesante ver cómo casi siempre terminamos sorprendidos.. creo que también nos brinda un contexto interesante sobre las diferencias culturales, sociales y todos los diversos prejuicios que existen en el mundo, al tener un elenco internacional vemos algunos choques y malentendidos entre personajes de distintos orígenes, pero al final todos aprenden a trabajar juntos. Pienso que este anime es realmente una joya, ojalá reciba mucha más atención y reconocimiento..
Es increíble, tiene una premisa tan interesante y una ejecución realmente sólida, te mantiene enganchado de principio a fin con unos giros argumentales interesantes, personajes carismáticos y por supuesto una animación y apartado visual que está por encima de la media... si te gustan las historias de robos perfectos, de estafas, con bastante humor inteligente, esta serie es para ti. No puedes perdérsela. Es una montaña rusa que seguramente te hará reír, te sorprenderá mucho y posiblemente hasta te saque alguna lagrimita. Mi calificación final es un potente 9.5/10.
