Hello everyone dear anime lovers, I hope you are doing great today... today I want to share with you all my opinions about a somewhat controversial anime, which I have been wanting to talk about for some time, and even more now that I recently finished its last season. Today I will talk about Tokyo Revengers... this anime is one of those that left me with many mixed feelings, on the one hand, the initial premise seemed very intriguing, you find some time travel, conflicts between gangs, and a protagonist who tries to fix his miserable life, and tries to save his high school girlfriend from dying, sounds intense and interesting, right? But well, as this series progresses.
I couldn't help but feel disappointed with how it all unfolded, especially as the story progressed.. instead of drawing me in, what it managed to do was drive me away.. let's start with the protagonist, Takemichi, in the beginning, I was really rooting for him.. i was expecting him to grow and mature into someone very capable of taking control of his own destiny, but wow, what a frustration with the development of this character.. despite being a crucial part of the story, he spends most of his series crying and whining, getting beaten up over and over again without really learning much from it.. i found it hopeless, because he's supposed to be the one who travels back in time to change things, to learn, to improve, but he almost never tends to evolve as such...
Obviously, he has some moments of bravery, moments in which you say: wow, now he is maturing, he is going to change, he is going to improve, but although he has certain traits of wanting to change, deep down I thought he was still immature and useless... I perfectly understand that the idea is to present us with a character who is not very strong and with whom we can identify with because of his weaknesses, but we are talking about a guy of about 26 years old, constantly behaving like a teenager and sometimes like a child, again and again and again... after a while it gets tiring.

Hola a todos queridos amantes del anime, espero que hoy estén super bien.. quiero el día de hoy compartirles a todos ustedes mis opiniones sobre un anime un tanto polémico, del cual tenía ganas de hablar desde hace algún tiempo, y más ahora que recientemente terminé su última temporada. Hoy les hablaré de Tokyo Revengers.. este anime es de esos que me dejó con muchos sentimientos encontrados, por un lado, la premisa inicial me pareció muy intrigante, te encuentras con algunos viajes en el tiempo, conflictos entre pandillas, y un protagonista que intenta arreglar su miserable vida, e intenta salvar a su novia de la secundaria de morir, suena intenso y interesante, ¿verdad? Pero bueno, a medida que avanza esta serie..
No pude evitar sentirme decepcionado por cómo se desarrollaba todo, especialmente a medida que la historia progresaba.. en vez de atraerme, lo que consiguió fue alejarme.. empecemos por el protagonista, Takemichi, al principio, yo realmente lo animaba.. estaba esperando que creciera y madurara hasta convertirse en alguien muy capaz de tomar el control de su propio destino, pero wow, qué frustración con el desarrollo de este personaje.. a pesar de ser parte crucial en la historia, se la pasa la mayor parte de su serie llorando y quejándose, siendo golpeado una y otra vez sin realmente aprender mucho de ello.. me pareció desesperante, porque se supone que él es el que viaja en el tiempo para cambiar las cosas, para aprender, para mejorar, pero casi nunca tiende a evolucionar como tal..
Obviamente, tiene algunos momentos de valentía, momentos en los cuales dices: wow, ahora si está madurando, va a cambiar, va a mejorar, pero aunque tiene ciertos rasgos de querer cambiar, en el fondo me pareció que seguía siendo inmaduro e inútil.. Entiendo perfectamente que la idea sea presentarnos un personaje que no es muy fuerte y con el cual podamos identificarnos por sus debilidades, pero estamos hablando de un chico de unos 26 años, comportándose constantemente como un adolescente y a veces como un niño, una y otra y otra vez.. después de un tiempo es algo que cansa.

Another major problem I had was with the mechanics of time travel.... Traveling to the past, to the future, in any kind of story can get complicated, but in this anime it's especially confusing because the series never bothers to explain how it works, at least up to the point I've seen it, and it's been about 3 seasons now. Are there really rules? Is there any logic behind it all? I spent much of the series waiting for them to give me a clear answer, but no.. I never knew, at least until now, what this cop kid's little hands are all about... it felt like the story was making up all the rules as it went along, which constantly undermined the coherence of the plot.
I mean, if you're really going to focus on a story with time travel, at least give some guidelines, at least not in the first season, but as the story progresses.... It seemed like Takemichi could come and go without any real conflicts or consequences or any decent explanation, it seems like the mangaka was more interested in dramatic fights between the gangs than making sure the story made sense, and if you want to focus on this, fine, I get it.. but then, I don't understand why put in time travel... And well, talking deeper into the story, I feel like the plot itself had a lot of potential, really, when I started this anime, I was excited to see where the story was going, but bad decisions and some developments really dragged this anime down....
There were many moments where I was left scratching my head wondering why certain characters made the decisions they did, as for the antagonists like Kisaki, I never quite understood them.... For example, I was always waiting for them to focus a little more on developing these characters, to give us a backstory, an evolution...

Otro problema importante que tuve fue con la mecánica del viaje en el tiempo.. El viaje al pasado, al futuro, en cualquier tipo de historia puede llegar a ser complicado, pero en este anime es especialmente confuso porque la serie nunca se molesta en explicarte cómo funciona, por lo menos hasta el punto en la que yo la he visto, y ya van como unas 3 temporadas. ¿Hay reglas en verdad? ¿Hay alguna lógica detrás de todo? Me pasé gran parte de la serie esperando que me dieran una respuesta clara, pero no.. nunca supe, por lo menos hasta ahora, qué es lo que tienen las manitos de este chico policía.. sentía que la historia se inventaba todas las reglas a medida que avanzaba, lo que debilitaba constantemente la coherencia del argumento.
Quiero decir, si realmente te vas a centrar en una historia con viajes en el tiempo, al menos da algunas pautas, por lo menos no en la primera temporada, pero mientras avanza la historia.. Parecía que Takemichi podía ir y venir sin haber conflictos o consecuencias reales o alguna explicación decente, parece que el mangaka estuviera más interesado en las peleas dramáticas entre las pandillas que en asegurarse de que la historia tuviera sentido, y si quieres enfocarte en esto, está bien, lo entiendo.. pero entonces, no entiendo por qué meter un viaje en el tiempo.. Y bueno, hablando más a profundo de la historia, siento que la trama en sí tenía mucho potencial, de verdad, cuando comencé este anime, estuve emocionado por ver hacia dónde se dirigía la historia, pero las malas decisiones y algunos desarrollos realmente arrastraron este anime hacia abajo..
Hubo muchos momentos en los que me quedaba rascándome la cabeza preguntándome por qué ciertos personajes tomaban las decisiones que tomaban, en cuanto a los antagonistas como Kisaki, no terminaba de entenderlos.. Por ejemplo, siempre quedaba esperando a que se enfocaran un poco más en desarrollar a estos personajes, que nos dieran un trasfondo, una evolución..

Another problem of this series are the secondary characters. Sure, you have interesting characters in the gang, like Draken or Mikey, who are pretty well worked and have great moments, but...and the rest...they are characters that you forget about or just don't have significant relevance to the plot...it's easy to forget their names or their motivations, it's as if the series wanted to focus on these big gang conflicts, but didn't bother to make the other characters seem like real people.... Even those characters that are important to Takimichi's journey are often left out in favor of more fight scenes or more gang drama, many times I avoided caring about half of the cast because they simply weren't given enough development or screen time to make me care about them.
And while we're on the subject of gang drama, I want to comment that after a while I felt like the story was using the fights as an easy device, every time the plot seemed to stagnate or get boring, there was magically a massive fight between gangs and rivals that would break out. Don't get me wrong, some of these fights were entertaining, but they ended up with no solid character development, after the promise, they started to feel repetitive. It was like, ah ok, another fight, but why, is it really necessary, and I've been wondering that a few times. The story starts to lose focus, and instead of building tension, these battles were just popping up to take up time, but despite all of the above and these complaints, I'm going to admit something. I'm going to keep watching it.
I know, it doesn't make much sense, does it? Maybe it's because I'm hopeful that it will eventually get better, but I've heard that the ending of the manga disappointed many, so I'm mainly going to continue it to see what the ending will come out with. I'm that curious, but I don't want to go deep into the manga to find out, I want to see it animated, I think if you're looking for something deep or well thought out, Tokyo Revenges probably isn't what you're looking for. It's more the kind of series to sit down and switch off your brain, to pass some time or have it in the background while you do other things.... It may be entertaining in its own way for certain people, but I just don't connect with me.

Otro problema de esta serie son los personajes secundarios. Obvio, tienes a personajes interesantes en la pandilla, como Draken o Mikey, que están bastante bien trabajados y tienen grandes momentos, pero... y el resto? Son personajes de los cuales te olvidas o que simplemente no tienen relevancia significativa en la trama.. es fácil olvidarte de sus nombres o de sus motivaciones, es como si la serie quisiera enfocarse en estos grandes conflictos entre pandillas, pero no se molestara en hacer que los otros personajes parecieran personas reales.. Incluso aquellos personajes que son importantes para el viaje de Takimichi, muchas veces son dejados de lado en favor de más escenas de peleas o más drama de pandilla, muchas veces evite preocuparme por la mitad del elenco, porque simplemente no les dieron suficiente desarrollo o tiempo en pantalla como para que me importaran.
Y ya que estamos en el tema del drama entre pandillas, quiero comentarles que después de un tiempo sentí que la historia estaba usando las peleas como un recurso fácil, cada vez que la trama parecía estancarse o se volvía aburrida, había mágicamente una pelea masiva entre pandillas y rivales que se desataba.. No me malinterpreten, algunas de estas peleas eran entretenidas, pero acababan sin un desarrollo sólido en los personajes, después de la promesa, empezaban a sentirse repetitivas. Era como, ah ok, otra pelea, pero ¿por qué? ¿Es realmente necesaria? y he estado preguntándome eso algunas veces. La historia comienza a perder enfoque, y en lugar de construir tensión, estas batallas solo aparecían para ocupar tiempo, pero a pesar de todo lo anterior y de estas quejas, voy a admitir algo.. voy a seguir viéndola.
Lo sé, no tiene mucho sentido, ¿verdad? Tal vez es porque tengo la esperanza de que eventualmente mejorará, pero he escuchado que el final del manga decepcionó a muchos, así que principalmente voy a continuarlo para ver con qué me saldrá el final. Tengo esa curiosidad, pero no quiero adentrarme al manga para descubrirlo, quiero verlo animado, creo que si buscas algo profundo o bien pensado, Tokyo Revenges probablemente no sea lo que estás buscando. Es más del tipo de serie para sentarte y desconectar el cerebro, para pasar un rato o tenerla de fondo mientras haces otras cosas.. Puede ser entretenida a su manera para ciertas personas, pero no conecto conmigo.

It might not be for me, but I can see why some people would like it. The gang fights, the drama, the emotional moments—they all have their appeal. But for me, I need more than just superficial excitement to keep me hooked. So, would I recommend it? Well, if you’re looking for something to pass the time and don’t mind a frustrating narrative, sure, give it a shot. But go in with low expectations, and don’t expect too much in terms of depth or consistency. I’d probably give it a 6/10—it’s passable, but not something I’d rave about. Quizá no es para mí, pero puedo ver por qué a algunas personas les gustaría. Las peleas de pandillas, el drama, los momentos emocionales—todos tienen su atractivo.
