Freddy Mercury is one of the most famous musicians in the history of mankind, there is even a movie that conveys what his life was like in a very professional way, with respect to the fidelity to the data, technical direction, and casting that confirms it. But this will be the subject of another post, now I want to share my thoughts on one of his songs, whose title heads this writing.
There are at least a couple of theories about its meaning. One that says it is a declaration of the sexual inclination of its interpreter, and another that speaks about the struggle for women's rights in the face of a markedly sexist society.
Whichever interpretation we give it, before sharing my opinion, I want to highlight the musical quality of this piece that together with its lyrics creates a work of art, in fact, for me this is the perfect combination of a successful song: its melody and rhythm plus the lyrics.
Freddy Mercury es uno de los músicos más insignes que ha tenido la historia de la humanidad, incluso existe una película que transmite lo que fue su vida de manera muy profesional, con respecto a la fidelidad a los datos, dirección técnica y casting que le conforma. Pero esto será tema de otro post, ahora quiero compartir mis pensamientos sobre una de sus canciones, cuyo título encabeza este escrito.
Hay al menos un par de teorías sobre su significado. Una que dice que es la declaración de la inclinación sexual de su interprete, y otra que habla sobre la lucha de los derechos de la mujer ante una sociedad marcadamente machista.
Sea cual fuere la interpretación que le demos, antes de compartir mi opinión, quiero resaltar la calidad musical de esta pieza que en conjunto con su letra crea una obra de arte, de hecho, para mí ésta es la combinación perfecta de una canción exitosa: su melodía y ritmo más la letra.
Two reflections inspire me in this song:
- A call for freedom. Both inner and outer, that is, first of all, the one that leads us to act from ourselves, without any coercion, but with conviction and decision.
In the same way, the fact of freeing ourselves from all kinds of oppression, in which lies the struggle of humanity against those who feel superior to others.
Here a couple of verses from the song in this regard:
"I want to break free from your lies You're so self-satisfied I don't need you're"
Dos reflexiones me inspiran esta canción:
- Un llamado a la libertad. Tanto interior como exterior, es decir, primeramente aquella que nos lleva a actuar desde nosotros mismos, sin coacción alguna, sino con convencimiento y decisión.
De la misma manera, el hecho de liberarnos de todo tipo de opresión, en lo cual radica la lucha de la humanidad frente a los que se sienten superiores a los demás.
Aquí un par de versos de la canción al respecto:
"Quiero liberarme de tus mentiras Eres tan autocomplaciente que no te necesito ".
- Respect for the dignity of the person. This is the second reflection that this song suggests to me, because, as I shared, it can be interpreted as a liberation song for those who have a homosexual sexual inclination.
In the face of this, what I defend is that above all is human dignity and that we are in this world to be happy, which is beyond established standards that judge without knowing.
Therefore, I like these verses where even God himself is a witness and confidant of our actions, which he respects.
"I don't want to live alone, hey God knows, got to make it on my own."
- Respeto a la dignidad de la persona. Esto es lo segunda reflexión que me sugiere esta canción, pues, como compartía puede interpretarse como un canto de liberación para los que tienen una inclinación sexual homosexual.
Ante esto, lo que defiendo es que ante todo está la dignidad humana, y que estamos en este mundo para ser feliz, lo cual está más allá de estándares establecidos que juzgan sin conocer.
Por eso, me gustan estos versos dónde hasta el mismo Dios es testigo y confidente de nuestro actos, los cuáles respeta.
"No quiero vivir solo, oye Dios sabe, tengo que hacerlo por mi cuenta".
