I definitely had to write a review of this movie. I have to start by saying it is a brilliant comedy, possibly the best I’ve seen this year, though I admit I’ve had a soft spot for Jennifer Lopez ever since I first discovered her in the 90s. Office Romance is a 2026 film available on Netflix (streaming since June 5th); I’ve already watched it five times, which is unusual for me in the streaming era, but I keep recommending it to friends and family and end up re-watching it myself.
A key feature of this movie is that it makes us laugh out loud at several points, something not every comedy manages to do. I was surprised to find that general audiences and critics view it as merely average (albeit leaning toward positive reviews); while the scores are middling, I’d give it a solid 100, and here’s why...
The performances don't need to be deeply profound since it isn't a drama, yet top-tier actors help us connect with the characters right from the start. It’s clearly a silly comedy, but one filled with interesting adventures waiting to be discovered. The script unfolds in a witty, fast-paced, and entertaining way, accompanied by recognizable music and settings that appeal to those of us who appreciate such details, specifically the two main cities where the story takes place, with New Jersey serving as the primary backdrop.
Jennifer Lopez is nearing 60; while she may not be in her musical prime, it was a pleasure to see her in a high-quality project, especially on the big screen, after a string of recent missteps in both film and music. The role suits her perfectly: she plays a powerful woman with a famous backside, and she pulls off co-starring with a leading man ten years her junior, the charming Brett Goldstein, who does a fantastic job with the comedy. I also have to highlight Betty Gilpin's performance; in every scene she appears in, she reminds us that we are watching one of the year's best comedies, even while playing a character who tries to be serious.
All in all, you shouldn't miss this movie; it’s fresh, funny, and great to watch with family and friends—though preferably with adults, given some sexual innuendo (nothing to worry about, though). As I mentioned earlier, you can find it on Netflix, and I give it a 100; I really can't find a single fault with it when viewed as a romantic comedy. I guarantee you won't regret watching it; you’d have to be a pretty boring person not to have a good time letting yourself get swept up in the wit of director Ol Parker and writer Brett Goldstein—yes, the lead actor himself is the creator of this comedy. Definitivamente tenía que escribir mi reseña sobre esta película. Debo comenzar por decir que es una comedia genial, posiblemente la mejor que he visto este año, aunque debo aceptar que tengo una fuerte debilidad por Jennifer López desde que la descubrí en los años 90's. Office Romance es una película de 2026 y la pueden encontrar en Netflix, está disponible desde el 5 de Junio, y desde entonces ya la he visto cinco veces, algo que es muy extraño en mí desde que todo es en formato streaming, pero debo destacar que siempre la recomiendo a mis amigos o familiares y termino repitiéndola nuevamente.
Una característica muy importante de esta película es que logra hacernos reír a carcajadas en varios momentos, y no todas las películas logran eso aunque sean una comedia. Me sorprendió mucho darme cuenta que la opinión del público en general y los críticos es la de una película promedio, aunque tirando más hacia las buenas críticas, pero en general tiene puntuaciones regulares, aunque yo me atrevo a darle un 10, y ahora les digo por qué...
Las actuaciones no tienen que ser muy profundas porque no es nada dramática, y aún así, hay actores de alta categoría que nos hacen conectar con los personajes desde el inicio, dejando en claro que se trata de una comedia tonta, pero con muchas aventuras interesantes por descubrir. Todo el guion se desarrolla de manera elocuente, rápido y entretenido, además de estar acompañado con música reconocida y escenarios interesantes para quienes amamos esos detalles, como las dos ciudades principales donde se desarrolla la historia, siendo New Jersey el escenario principal.
Jennifer López está cerca de sus 60 años de edad, y aunque musicalmente no se encuentra en su mejor década, fue muy agradable verla haciendo un nuevo proyecto con una calidad respetable, aunque sea en el cine, ya que tiene varios tropiezos seguidos tanto en el cine como en la música. Evidentemente el papel le queda muy bien, ya que interpreta a una mujer poderosa de gran trasero, y puede darse el lujo de coprotagonizar con un actor diez años menor que ella, el galán Brett Goldstein que hace muy bien su trabajo como actor de comedia. También tengo que resaltar la actuación de Betty Gilpin, que nos hace recordar en cada una de sus apariciones que estamos viendo una de las mejores comedias del año con un personaje que pretende ser serio.
En fin, no se pueden perder esta película, es fresca, divertida y se puede ver en familia y con amigos, preferiblemente adultos por ciertas insinuaciones hacia lo sexual, peor nada de qué preocuparse. Como mencioné al inicio de este post, la pueden ubicar en Netflix y mi puntuación es de 10, realmente no encuentro nada malo en ella si la tratamos como una comedia romántica. Te aseguro que no te arrepentirás de verla, tendrías que ser muy aburrido para no pasar un buen rato dejándote llevar por las ocurrencias del director Ol Parker y su escritor Brett Goldstein; sí, el mismo protagonista fue el creador de esta comedia.
