Snowpiercer has an unusual mix of elements in its story, we have, on the one hand, the main character who is a shady man whose past we see in snippets as a subplot about overcoming and human survival. At the same time, we see how little by little this man ends a few lives in a quest to change the world to which he belongs by leading a seemingly humanitarian revolution.
Few films have shown me the true spirit of human survival as Snowpiercer(2013) has done, this film is a masterpiece of conceptual transformation as part of a film adaptation, from its origin in "Le transperceneige" which was a graphic novel, to its film form, they all share this feeling which I will talk about today, Snowpiercer and the eternal Ouroboros, a representation of the human spirit and its quest for survival.
There is for me no darker element in a film than the mention of the word cannibalism, the mere mention of this modern taboo changes the context of the human condition in any story and automatically makes the audience repudiate those who comment on it; However, Snowpiercer opens the door of chaos and uses it frontally and shows us a story where the innocent are devoured by the strong.
In this context, we are presented with the big question: If there are scarce resources, where does the food come from? The answer changes how we perceive the story of this film and its characters, and turns our "humanitarian heroes" into cannibals for survival.
In the case of the film, this hunger is represented in two parts, as an allegory through the class struggle and in the physical act on the part of the inhabitants of the queue of the wagons, where man has consumed all that is left as a species and is left only to consume himself.
This assault against the sense of humanity does not go unnoticed and strikes deeply to the viewer of this film because although the heroes of the story did it in the beginning to survive, it does not change the fact and this permanently marks the main character.
That extreme known as cannibalism is present in all three forms of the story of Snowpiercer, from the graphic novel, to the film, and the TV series, all respect the devouring element of the narrative, that which cannot be denied and that has a huge weight in the story.
That element is the darkest of the film and changes the context of the film as it unfolds, as it shows us a deep dark world where the innocent are devoured by the strong. Except for the cast, who manage to let go of the chain of hunger and find a way to stop such acts, or rather, Guilliam finds one, willing to cut off his arm to feed others, this moment shows the depths of human love.
This is exactly why the children are so precious to the characters and it is the trigger of the revolution their kidnapping, the fact of losing the only true innocents on the train, those who have not tasted human flesh and who do not live with the horrors of their acts that redeems our cast completely.

That human innocence is what drives the cannibals to redeem themselves through the struggle to fix the world is the essence of human survival in a pure way, an Ouroboros that seeks to devour the memories it holds and leave the pure innocent in the oblivion of the dark past.
Therefore, the director pointed us to cannibalism as something distinctly related to human survival in that limited space lacking resources, turning cannibalism into a minor element of the film, a symbolic representation of his work of defining the human race as survivors.
Humanity is a race of survivors, of that, there is no doubt, we have been born, grown, and reached the stars, we carry the fire of Prometheus and turn it into steel. Skyscrapers have been erected and someday perhaps a continental train track like the one in Snowpiercer and even next to its eternal engine of perpetual motion.
All of this has been done by making dozens of mistakes, repeating horrific and grim practices, which we should have left long ago in the past, but it is part of the way we have moved away from it as a species that justly causes the constant relapses.
This approach given by the director shows us both hope and paradigm-breaking, during the story, he shows us that there is always a way for us as a species to stop devouring each other and make the world better for future generations; leave behind the Ouroboros and become a flying snake through the clouds of other galaxies, extend our understanding of "human" and overcome class and race barriers, while this is still a long way off, after watching Snowpiercer(2013), I believe we can achieve it.
I leave you with a phrase that I loved from the film, "we go forward", I feel that phrase encapsulates everything that is humanity on a spiritual and philosophical level, we are made to move forward and leave our past behind.

Snowpiercer tiene una mezcla de elementos inusual en su historia, tenemos, por una parte, al personaje principal que es un hombre sombrío cuyo pasado vamos viendo a retazos como una subtrama sobre superación y supervivencia humana. Al mismo tiempo que vemos como poco a poco este hombre acaba con unas cuantas vidas en búsqueda de cambiar el mundo al cual pertenece liderando una revolución humanitaria en apariencia.
Pocos filmes me han demostrado el verdadero espíritu de la supervivencia humana como lo ha hecho Snowpiercer(2013), este filme es una obra maestra de la transformación conceptual como parte de una adaptación fílmica, desde su origen en "Le transperceneige" el cual era una novela gráfica, hasta su forma de filme, todas comparten este sentimiento del cual hoy les hablaré, Snowpiercer y el Uróboros eterno, una representación del espíritu humano y su búsqueda por sobrevivir.
No existe para mí un elemento más oscuro en un film que la mención de la palabra canibalismo, la sola mención de este tabú moderno cambia el contexto de la condición humana en cualquier historia y hace que automáticamente el público repudie a los que lo comenten; Sin embargo, Snowpiercer abre la puerta del caos y lo usa frontalmente y nos muestra una historia donde los inocentes son devorados por los fuertes.
En este contexto nos presentan la gran interrogante: Si hay escasos recursos ¿De dónde sale el alimento? La respuesta es una que cambia el cómo percibimos la historia de este filme y a sus personajes y torna a nuestros "héroes humanitarios" en caníbales por supervivencia.
En el caso del filme esta hambre está representada en dos partidas, como una alegoría mediante la lucha de clases y en el acto físico de parte de los habitantes de la cola de los vagones, donde el hombre ha consumido todo lo que queda como especie y únicamente le queda consumirse a sí mismo.
Este asalto contra el sentido de humanidad no pasa desapercibido y golpea profundamente al que ve este filme, ya que si bien los héroes de la historia lo hicieron en un origen para sobrevivir, no cambia el hecho y esto marca permanentemente al personaje principal y lo modifico como persona.
Ese extremo conocido como el canibalismo, está presente en las tres formas de la historia de Snowpiercer, tanto la novela gráfica, como el filme y la serie de TV, todas respetan el elemento devorador de la narrativa, aquello que no se puede negar y que tiene un peso enorme en la historia.
Ese elemento es el más oscuro del film y cambia el contexto del mismo a media que este transcurre, ya que nos muestra un mundo profundamente oscuro donde los inocentes son devorados por los fuertes. Con la excepcion del elenco, quienes lograron soltar la cadena del hambre y encontraron una manera de detener este tipo de actos, mejor dicho, Guilliam lo encuentra, dispuesto a cortar su propio brazo para alimentar a otros, este momento muestra lo profundo del amor humano.
Por eso mismo es que los niños son tan preciados para los personajes y es el detonante de la revolución su secuestro, el hecho de perder a los únicos inocentes verdaderos en el tren, aquellos que no han probado carne humana y que no viven con los horrores de sus actos lo que redime a nuestro elenco por completo.
Que la inocencia humana sea lo que lleva a los caníbales a redimirse mediante la lucha por arreglar el mundo, es la esencia de la supervivencia humana de una manera pura, un Uróboros que busca devorar las memorias que tiene y dejar al inocente puro en el olvido del oscuro pasado.
Por lo tanto, el director nos señaló el canibalismo como algo netamente relacionado con la supervivencia humana en ese limitado espacio falto de recursos, tornando el canibalismo en un elemento menor del filme, una representación simbólica de su trabajo de definir a la raza humana como supervivientes.
La humanidad es una raza de sobrevivientes, de eso no hay duda, hemos nacido, crecido y alcanzado las estrellas, llevamos el fuego de Prometeo y lo tornamos en acero, se han levantado rascacielos y algún día quizás una vía de tren continental como la de Snowpiercer y hasta junto a su eterno motor de perpetuo movimiento.
Todo esto ha sido cometiendo decenas de errores, repitiendo prácticas horrorosas y sombrías, que deberíamos haber dejado ya hace mucho tiempo en el pasado, pero, sin embargo, es parte de como nos alejamos de ello como especie lo cual justamente causa las reincidencias constantes.
Este enfoque dado por el director nos muestra tanto esperanzas como ruptura de paradigmas, durante la historia, nos muestra que siempre existe la manera de que como especie dejemos de devorarnos entre nosotros y hagamos el mundo mejor para las futuras generaciones; dejar atrás el Uróboros y convertirnos una serpiente voladora por las nubes de otras galaxias, extender nuestro entender de "humano" y superar las barreras de clase y raza, si bien esto aún está muy lejos, luego de ver Snowpiercer(2013), creo que podemos lograrlo.
Les dejo una frase que me encanto del filme, "nosotros vamos hacia adelante", siento que esa frase encapsula todo lo que es la humanidad a nivel espiritual y filosófico, nosotros estamos hechos para seguir avanzando y así dejar nuestro pasado detrás.
