Have you ever had one of those moments in this snowy season, where you are just tired to watch the same "cute and family-friendly" kind of movie in every media available? I am, and I think is time for some action packet Christmas movie, and the best of this genre is Die hard from 1988.
Die hard is one of those weird movies that you don't know where to place, is it a Christmas movie? Not quite, Is it an action-shooter film? Also feels kinda off, a bit too many Santa songs, I think is Both, and that is the beauty of it.
This duality transcended time and it solidified the career of Bruce Willis and created a line of several successful sequels. But why is Die hard my pick? Lethal Weapon(1987) also was a Bulletstorm placed on Christmas day, so it would be a perfect movie to name.
Also, many other Non-cute Christmas movies are out there just waiting to be watched. Works like Gremlins 1984 or Krampus 2015 are incredible on the horror/comedy genre. So what is the quintessential vibe that makes Die hard better and the focus of this post?
Bruce Willis and his character, John Mcclane, are the ones to blame for the great success of the film, this character is the most macho typical character, that I have ever seen. A modern cowboy that obeys his own rules, and since its inception it was a doomed character, but a spin on the script and good acting by Bruce, made it a great film.
The emotional opening with the sergeant on the radio at the climax of the movie is what redeems this character, it offers hope for a change, and Hope is the biggest light on the Christmas Tree, of course, Mcclane thought that he was going to die, so he decided to apologize to his wife.
And what is more Christmas than setting your ego aside and trying to find a sense of family, or trying to save your marriage, or better Do your best to redeem yourself? Of course, we know by Die hard 2(1990) that Mcclane dint follow-up his initiative, he backed down and locked himself upon his ego and decided to ruin his marriage, because his wife got a high paid job and he felt emasculated, typical macho of his time, a man than dint follows his hearth.
Christmas is a time to take the step forward and improve as a person, to search for what we truly want to become, who we want to be for ourselves, and our families. Of course, we have to follow our wishes and fight with our desires to stay stagnant, we have to continue with our good intentions the rest of the year, not only in December, we should carry our heart and soul forward and change, unlike Mcclane.
At the end of the day, when you see this movie, you should feel better, is not just some random shootings, weird germans terrorists, explosions everywhere and how did the building dint catch fire with the last explosion? It was a fight for "redemption" at the end of the film, yes, a bit of a violent one, but it was a great film because of it. Die hard is the perfect Christmas movie that is as far away from Santa as it gets, and the whole season "spirit" as well.
The magic of Christmas is everywhere, is on everyone, if you open your hearths you can try it, don't be a nice person one day, take Christmas with you and be nice with others every day. After all, what is better than making friends and creating a family all around you.

Alguna vez has tenido uno de esos momentos en esta temporada de nieve ¿Donde estás cansado de ver el mismo tipo de película "linda y familiar"? En todos los medios disponibles cabe destacar. Yo sí, y creo que es hora de ver alguna película navideña de acción, y la mejor de este género es Duro de matar de 1988.
Duro de matar es una de esas películas raras que no sabes dónde ubicar, ¿Es una película navideña? No del todo, ¿Es una película de acción y disparos? También se siente un poco fuera de lugar, demasiadas canciones de Papá Noel, creo que es ambas, y eso es lo bonito.
Esta dualidad trascendió en el tiempo y solidificó la carrera de Bruce Willis y creó una línea de varias secuelas exitosas. ¿Pero por qué es mi elección? Arma Letal(1987) también fue una tormenta de balas ambientada en el día de Navidad, por lo que sería una película perfecta para nombrar.
Además, hay muchas otras películas navideñas que no son bonitas y que están esperando a ser vistas. Obras como Gremlins 1984 o Krampus 2015 son increíbles en el género de terror/comedia. Entonces, ¿Cuál es la quintaesencia que hace mejor a Duro de Matar y el foco de esta publicación?

El emotivo momento con el sargento en la radio en el clímax de la película es lo que redime a este personaje, ofrece esperanza para un cambio, y la Esperanza es la mayor luz en el Árbol de Navidad. Por supuesto, Mcclane pensó que iba a morir, por lo que decidió disculparse con su esposa.
¿Y qué es más navideño que dejar de lado tu ego y tratar de encontrar el sentido de la familia, o intentar salvar tu matrimonio, o mejor hacer lo posible por redimirte? Por supuesto, sabemos por Duro de matar 2(1990) que Mcclane no siguió su iniciativa, se echó atrás y se encerró en su ego y decidió arruinar su matrimonio, porque su mujer consiguió un trabajo mejor pagado y él se sintió castrado, típico macho de su época, un hombre que no sigue su corazón.
La Navidad es un momento para dar el paso adelante y mejorar como persona, para buscar lo que realmente queremos llegar a ser, lo que queremos ser para nosotros mismos, y para nuestras familias. Por supuesto, tenemos que seguir nuestros deseos y luchar con nuestras ganas de no quedarnos estancados, tenemos que seguir con nuestras buenas intenciones el resto del año, no sólo en diciembre, debemos llevar nuestro corazón y alma hacia adelante y cambiar, a diferencia de Mcclane.
Al final del día, cuando veas esta película, deberías sentirte mejor, no es sólo unos tiroteos al azar, terroristas alemanes raros, explosiones por todas partes y ¿Cómo no se incendió el edificio con la última explosión? Es una lucha por la "redención" al final de la película, sí, un poco violenta, pero es una gran película por ello. Duro de matar es la perfecta película navideña que se aleja lo más posible de Santa Claus, y de todo el "espíritu" de la temporada también.
La magia de la Navidad está en todas partes, está en todos, si abres tu hogar puedes probarla, no seas una persona amable un día, lleva la Navidad contigo y sé amable con los demás todos los días. Al fin y al cabo, qué mejor que hacer amigos y crear una familia a tu alrededor.
