There have been few TV shows that had made me cry in my life, and somehow, Midnight Gospel did, they preached to me right on some stuff but men how I cried in the last episode, and this is the real magic of this series, they managed to make a bond with the watcher thought spirituality and literal magic.
Most TV shows that achieve the feat of transmitting emotions more familiarly, usually do by using their characters or plot, while this show is not one of those and this is easy to see as all of their characters are just cartoonish copies of real-life people and their interviews, and this in itself is part of the magic in this show, because we are only seeing but a shadow of life, a glimpse of someone else reality, and this much is what I want to write to you, my readers, about this show, the real magic behind The Midnight Gospel.
I would like to make a slight disclaimer first, we can't avoid talking about death, this show's main focus on human mortality is unavoidable to touch and talk about if we're going to discuss this masterpiece about the fragility of the human condition, we can't and will never be able to fully avoid death, as humans are part of the circle of life, and everything alive will eventually die, even the stars in the night sky do, is part of how the universe works.
Now that I said that, we can feel the big burden in life, that burden is the fact we all have limited time, limited life, and unlimited emotions to feel in such a short space and time, and it's up to us to just let us be, let us feel, and live at the moment, ironically is us the main enemy on doing so and this is why this whole show exists, most people unconsciously fights this reality and faces a life filled with ignorance, shutting themselves off to the act of feeling emotions and living at its fullest.
A life of numbness is how would I would take this if I were to build it into a concept, we can live and die an entire life, focusing it on the act of feeling nothing, of being nothing, of crushing the human part of us and turning ourselves into flesh machines, most people still do, even if they go to church, some Buddhism guru, or maybe even a spiritual cult of sorts, because they do this willingly, silently and happily, they rather feel nothing than feel sad.
Facing our mortality should be the catalyst to avoid said numbing, because knowing that we have little time, will unavoidably push us to feel, to vibe our emotions and enjoy them, as we love the laugh and warm feeling of friendship, we are not endless in the flesh, and so we must let our selves feel, this is the core message of this TV show, the real vibe this show can show us.
Once you let yourself feel that burden, is the moment where you can adapt and let go of it, just living, feeling the magic of life, being there for once, twice, maybe three times, and enjoy life at its fullest, because life is not only living, being happy or avoiding bad feelings, life is about enjoyment.
To enjoy life, most people have to untangle their issues, and this is well illustrated in one of the chapters, because the issues in our life can and will be, at times, a tie-up that binds us to a specific place, time, or lifestyle, and more often than not, these are nothing but fixations.
To address this, the show does one symbolical birth for the main character in each chapter, to show us the way Clancy fights with himself, and how he can change his outside with ease, but in the end, he is the same on the inside until he finally learns his lesson and let himself grown.
In a way, we, the watchers of this shown, are like it or not, focused and fixated on our issues at hand and unable to see our rebirth opportunities in a similar daily fashion and the ones for Clancy, and that is our greatest "sin".
Those "sins" are slowly piling up inside of us, most people don't realize, but the stockpiling emotions and the rejected opportunities to feel them will eventually explode, because they were never supposed to be bottled up. They will eventually form into a separated US if left unchecked, you might remember that friend that cries when he gets drunk or the one that screams and complaints in the Xmas season when he is passed a few drinks, those are his bottle-up sadness and anger, they are not themselves at the moment yet in a way they are nothing but their true selves when they lose control when they stop acting.
Finding a way to make peace with our bottle-up emotions and not lose ourselves in the process is something each person has and will eventually do, and I love how this shown made it apparent with the allegory of Clancy and its mom turning into planets, because as said in my county of origin "Every head is a world on its own" and this is the only true way of dealing with both our emotions and our mortality, this is the true magic we can all agree upon, that we can be wholesome if we decide to do so, feel emotions and live with magic.
I guess this show had many things to teach and few people that felt it's teaching, I have seen how people reacted to it, but its "memes" aren't worth the salt, and their expectations are neither too big nor too small, I guess that is the Netflix issue we always see, they sometimes create beautiful shows and fail to support them into the end.
No matter what this show made a real impression on me, because it felt real, it was not pretending to be something, doing something to look nice, or being a political campaign, it had no other agenda than helping the viewer in knowing there are more ways to look at the transcendence, and that we should all just better be in the present, living with our emotions.
After this show is said and done, I love the message of the midnight part of the title, after all, death is looming on us all, and we might just be in our midnight hours and we just don't know, so, Why not live life to its fullest? Ha habido pocos programas de televisión que me hayan hecho llorar en mi vida y de alguna manera, Midnight Gospel lo hizo, me predicaron bien en algunas cosas pero cómo lloré en el último episodio y esta es la verdadera magia de esta serie, lograron hacer un vínculo con el espectador pensando en la espiritualidad y la magia.
La mayoría de los programas de televisión que logran la hazaña de transmitir emociones de manera más comun, generalmente lo hacen utilizando sus personajes o la trama, mientras que este programa no es uno de esos y esto es fácil de ver ya que todos sus personajes son sólo copias caricaturescas de personas de la vida real y sus entrevistas; esto en sí es parte de la magia en este programa, porque sólo estamos viendo sino una sombra de la vida pasada, un vistazo a la realidad de otra persona y esto es lo que quiero escribir a ustedes, mis lectores, sobre este programa, la verdadera magia detrás de El Evangelio de Medianoche.
Me gustaría hacer un ligero descargo de responsabilidad en primer lugar, no podemos evitar hablar de la muerte, el enfoque principal de este espectáculo es la mortalidad humana; es inevitable tocarla si vamos a discutir esta obra maestra sobre la fragilidad de la condición humana, no podemos y nunca seremos capaces de evitar completamente la muerte, ya que los seres humanos son parte del círculo de la vida y todo lo que está vivo eventualmente morirá, incluso las estrellas en el cielo nocturno lo hacen, es parte de cómo funciona el universo.
Ahora que he dicho eso, puedo sentir la gran carga en la vida, esa carga es el hecho de que todos tenemos un tiempo limitado, una vida limitada y emociones ilimitadas para sentir en un espacio y tiempo tan cortos que depende de nosotros dejarnos ser, dejarnos sentir y vivir en el momento, irónicamente somos nosotros el principal enemigo en hacerlo y es por eso que todo este espectáculo existe, la mayoría de la gente inconscientemente lucha contra esta realidad y se enfrenta a una vida llena de ignorancia, cerrándose al acto de sentir emociones y vivir al máximo.
Una vida de adormecimiento es como tomaría esto si lo construyera en un concepto, podemos vivir y morir una vida entera, enfocándola en el acto de no sentir nada, de no ser nada, de aplastar la parte humana de nosotros y convertirnos en máquinas de carne, la mayoría de la gente lo sigue haciendo, incluso si van a la iglesia, a algún gurú del budismo, o tal vez incluso a una especie de culto espiritual, porque lo hacen de buena gana, en silencio y felizmente, prefieren no sentir nada a sentirse tristes.
Enfrentarnos a nuestra mortalidad debe ser el catalizador para evitar dicho adormecimiento, porque saber que nos queda poco tiempo, nos empujará inevitablemente a sentir, a vibrar nuestras emociones y a disfrutar de ellas, como nos gusta la risa y el sentimiento cálido de la amistad, no somos interminables en la carne y por eso debemos dejarnos sentir, este es el mensaje central de este programa de televisión, la verdadera vibración que este programa nos puede mostrar.
Una vez que te permites sentir esa carga, es el momento en el que puedes adaptarte y dejarte llevar, simplemente vivir, sentir la magia de la vida, estar ahí por una vez, dos veces, tal vez tres, y disfrutar de la vida al máximo, porque la vida no es sólo respirar, ser feliz o evitar los malos sentimientos, la vida es para disfrutar.
Para disfrutar de la vida, la mayoría de la gente tiene que desenredar sus asuntos y esto está bien ilustrado en uno de los capítulos, porque los asuntos de nuestra vida pueden ser y serán, a veces, una atadura que nos mantiene a un lugar, un tiempo o un estilo de vida concretos, y la mayoría de las veces no son más que fijaciones.
Para abordar esto, la serie hace un nacimiento simbólico del personaje principal en cada capítulo, para mostrarnos la forma en que Clancy lucha consigo mismo y cómo puede cambiar su exterior con facilidad, pero al final, es el mismo por dentro hasta que finalmente aprende la lección y se deja crecer.
En cierto modo, nosotros, los espectadores de esta serie, estamos, nos guste o no, centrados y fijados en nuestros problemas y no somos capaces de ver nuestras oportunidades de renacimiento de una forma diaria similar a la de Clancy y ese es nuestro mayor "pecado".
Esos "pecados" se van acumulando lentamente en nuestro interior, la mayoría de la gente no se da cuenta, pero las emociones acumuladas y las oportunidades rechazadas para sentirlas acabarán por explotar, porque se supone que nunca debían estar embotelladas. Con el tiempo se convertirán en una versión separada de "nosotros" si no se controla, puede que recuerdes a ese amigo que llora cuando se emborracha o al que grita y se queja en la época navideña cuando se le pasan las copas, esos son su tristeza y su rabia embotelladas, no son ellos mismos en ese momento pero en cierto modo no son más que su verdadero yo cuando pierden el control, cuando dejan de actuar.
Encontrar una manera de hacer las paces con nuestras emociones embotelladas y no perdernos en el proceso es algo que cada persona tiene y hará eventualmente, me encanta como esto es mostrado con la alegoría de Clancy y su madre convirtiéndose en planetas, porque como se dice en mi tierra de origen "Cada cabeza es un mundo en sí mismo" y esta es la única manera verdadera de lidiar tanto con nuestras emociones como con nuestra mortalidad, esta es la verdadera magia en la que todos podemos estar de acuerdo, que podemos ser sanos si decidimos hacerlo, sentir emociones y vivir con magia.
Supongo que esta serie tenía muchas cosas que enseñar y poca gente que sintiera su enseñanza, he visto como la gente reaccionaba a ella, pero sus "memes" no valen la pena, y sus expectativas no son ni muy grandes ni muy pequeñas, supongo que es el problema de Netflix que siempre vemos, a veces crean series hermosas y no las sostienen hasta el final.
Sin embargo esta serie me impresionó, porque se sintió real, no pretendía ser algo, ni hacer algo para quedar bien, ni ser una campaña política, no tenía otra agenda que ayudar al espectador a saber que hay más formas de mirar la trascendencia y que todos debemos estar mejor en el presente, viviendo con nuestras emociones.
Después de este espectáculo, me encanta el mensaje de la parte de medianoche del título, después de todo, la muerte se cierne sobre todos nosotros y podríamos estar en nuestras horas de medianoche en la vida y simplemente no saberlo, así que ¿Por qué no vivir la vida al máximo? ¿Por qué no disfrutar de ser nosotros?
