Hola Hivers amantes de las películas y series, el día de hoy no voy a realizar una reseña sobre una película muy nueva, sin embargo, puedo pensar que muchos de los que consumimos y creamos contenido en esta comunidad de Movies & Tv Shows la han visto en alguna ocasión, hablo de un clásico de hace varios años y que incluso de ver tantas veces puedo seguir viéndola sin aburrirme, no por nada fue nominada al Oscar en 12 categorías ganando en 5 de ellas. Es una de esas películas que en mi caso recordaré por mucho tiempo.
Hace algunos días escribí sobre una película protagonizada por Russell Crowe y me he reído (Unhinged) bastante con un comentario de una muy querida usuaria de Hive que comento sobre el actor pero refiriéndose a su papel en la película Gladiador, por supuesto yo inmediatamente bromeo sobre ese rotundo cambio físico del actor que hace de protagonista en ambas películas. Esto me hizo recordar que de no había escrito sobre esta fabulosa que probablemente la mayoría de usuarios con cierta edad en su reloj biológico ya ha visto.
Recuerdo que la vi cuando era adolescente, por supuesto no sabia mucho sobre películas, pero me encantó este film desde el primer día, incluso recuerdo ese momento que estaba con mi padre viendo gladiador en el cuarto frente al televisor.

Sinopsis:
En la época de dominio del basto imperio romano el emperador Marco Aurelio, en su lecho de muerte decide transferir el poder a Máximo, uno de sus generales más leales y uno de los grandes lideres del ejercito, sin embargo, Cómodo es el hijo legitimo del anciano emperador, este quiere apoderarse del trono de Roma a toda costa por lo cual tratará de eliminar a Máximo a toda costa.
Análisis de la Película
Esta película es estrenada en el año 2000, ya hace mas de dos décadas (eso explicaría cualquier transformación física del protagonista), cuenta con una duración de 150 minutos y la podemos catalogar dentro del género de Drama con una mezcla de acción y aventura, es una producción dirigida por el conocido director Ridley Scott, el cual cuenta con una filmografía bastante interesante.
Historia
La historia de esta película es verdaderamente interesante, en lo particular siempre me ha gustado las películas basadas en culturas antiguas que se introduzcan dentro del genero de acción, me gusta ver batallas y enfrentamientos con armaduras y espadas, una muestra de lo que se vivía en aquellos días. En nuestra cultura sabemos desde pequeños sobre los gladiadores, hombres que luchaban hasta la muerte para entretener a un pueblo en el gran coliseo romano, eran las estrellas del deporte mundial en aquellos años, con la enorme diferencia de que sus vidas podían acabarse en cualquier momento.
Todo este conjunto de características sin duda convierten en esta película en un producto comercial y con buen grado de entretenimiento, podemos decir que no decepciona y que sobrepasa los estándares de muchas filmaciones sobre la antigua roma y otras culturas del pasado.
La trama es estructurada de manera excelente, no deja cabos sueltos y capta la atención desde el primer momento, a pesar de que es una película con una duración de más de dos horas, cada minuto es entretenimiento puro, mas allá de las escenas de acción, la historia y como los guionistas estructuran la trama es para mi lo mas resaltante de esta película, sin dudas un trabajo excelente de producción.
Drama
La película indudablemente posee un tema dramático central, el cual es el camino por el cual se va desarrollando la trama al pasar los minutos, observaremos varios actos de injusticia y de crueldad que seguramente nos harán hervir la sangre por momentos, este aspecto es relevante ya que desde mi punto de vista el género dramático debe trasmitir emociones, esto hace que el espectador se sumerja en la historia sintiendo angustia, desesperación o incluso un sentimiento de venganza en contra de algunos personajes y esta película trasmite esas emociones de buena manera. Un trabajo en conjunto de actuaciones memorables y un trabajo filmográfico impecable.
Acción
Algo que me agrada de esta película son las buenas escenas de acción que nos propone, secuencias bastante buenas de batallas y enfrentamientos, debo decir que no es una película netamente de acción, sin embargo, esta acción es fundamental para el gran éxito de este film. En mi caso quizás no entendía mucho lo que sucedía o no podía captar las emociones correctamente pero las escenas de acción y la curiosidad sobre si el protagonista lograba sobrevivir era lo que necesitaba para mantener mi atención frente al televisor.
Ambientación y Fotografía
Otro gran trabajo técnico de la producción es en estos aspectos que nos otorgan una imagen excepcional de la antigua roma y esa tradición política de entretener al pueblo con enfrentamientos entre gladiadores. La ambientación es magnifica, nos hace retroceder cientos de años en el tiempo, la apariencia rudimentaria que observamos en algunas escenas que se contrastan con una magnifica arquitectura y arte romano. Escenas de acción cubiertas con un buen juego de cámaras y una fotografía impresionante. Sin dudas un excelente trabajo que también le es merecedor de la estatuilla dorada, premio Oscar para mejores efectos visuales y mejor vestuario.
Actuaciones
Si hablamos de esta película no podemos dejar de lado las actuaciones, Russell Crowe realiza un papel excelente, una adaptación al personaje impresionante y que realmente conmueve pero que al mismo tiempo parece invencible en la arena de combate, un hombre con valores firmes y con un amor al imperio romano que suponía el pilar de su fuerza. Un personaje que muchos recordaremos hoy en el año 2021. Sin dudas la actuación de Russell Crowe en esta película queda plasmada en la historia con el premio Oscar como mejor actor.
A pesar de que los ojos de la critica se centran en Russell Crowe, Joaquín Phoenix hace un trabajo extraordinario, incluso es nominado al Oscar por esa actuación en la categoría de mejor actor de reparto, sin embargo, en esa oportunidad no logra hacerse con la estatuilla. A pesar de no contar con ese preciado premio me parece una actuación fenomenal de su parte, dándole vida un personaje totalmente opuesto al protagonista, un antagonista que muchos recordaremos por ese odio que se sentía cuando aparecía en escena. Otra actuación verdaderamente memorable.
Conclusión
Esta es sin dudas una película memorable, un clásico del cine desde mi óptica, una producción en la cual se puede disfrutar cada minuto de duración. Esta es una película en donde es difícil encontrar algún defecto, por esa razón causó furor en los premios Oscar en su momento y aun hoy es una película a siempre tener en cuenta. Pocas películas las catalogo entre mis favoritas, sin embargo, esta me cautivo desde que la vi por primera vez, para mi este film es una obra de arte. No hay mucho mas que decir, es ese tipo de obra de arte que es muy difícil explicar con letras o palabras, tan solo viéndola es que se puede llegar verdaderamente a apreciar.

Hello Hivers movie and series lovers, today I am not going to review a very new movie, however, I can think that many of us who consume and create content in this Movies & Tv Shows community have seen it at some point, I'm talking about a classic of several years ago and that even after watching it so many times I can continue watching it without getting bored, not for nothing it was nominated for an Oscar in 12 categories winning in 5 of them. It is one of those movies that in my case I will remember for a long time.
A few days ago I wrote about a movie starring Russell Crowe and laughed (Unhinged) quite a bit at a comment from a very dear Hive user who commented on the actor but referring to his role in the movie Gladiator, of course I immediately joked about that resounding physical change of the actor who plays the lead in both movies. This made me remember that I had not written about this fabulous movie that probably most users with a certain age on their biological clock have already seen.
I remember seeing it when I was a teenager, of course I didn't know much about movies, but I loved this film from day one, I even remember that moment I was with my father watching gladiator in the room in front of the TV.

The story of this film is really interesting, in particular I have always liked movies based on ancient cultures that are introduced within the genre of action, I like to see battles and clashes with armor and swords, a sample of what was lived in those days. In our culture we know from a young age about gladiators, men who fought to the death to entertain a people in the great Roman coliseum, they were the stars of world sport in those years, with the huge difference that their lives could end at any moment.
All this set of features undoubtedly make this film a commercial product with a good degree of entertainment, we can say that it does not disappoint and exceeds the standards of many films about ancient Rome and other cultures of the past.
The plot is structured in an excellent way, leaves no loose ends and captures the attention from the first moment, although it is a film with a duration of more than two hours, every minute is pure entertainment, beyond the action scenes, the story and how the screenwriters structure the plot is for me the most outstanding of this film, no doubt an excellent job of production.
Drama
The film undoubtedly has a central dramatic theme, which is the path by which the plot develops as the minutes pass, we will observe several acts of injustice and cruelty that will surely make our blood boil at times, this aspect is relevant because from my point of view the dramatic genre must convey emotions, this makes the viewer is immersed in the story feeling anguish, despair or even a sense of revenge against some characters and this film conveys those emotions in a good way. An ensemble work of memorable performances and impeccable film work.
Action
Something that pleases me about this film are the good action scenes that it proposes us, quite good sequences of battles and confrontations, I must say that it is not a purely action film, however, this action is fundamental for the great success of this film. In my case perhaps I did not understand much what was happening or could not capture the emotions correctly but the action scenes and the curiosity about whether the protagonist managed to survive was what I needed to keep my attention in front of the TV.
Setting and Photography
Another great technical work of the production is in these aspects that give us an exceptional image of ancient Rome and that political tradition of entertaining the people with clashes between gladiators. The setting is magnificent, it takes us back hundreds of years in time, the rudimentary appearance that we see in some scenes contrasted with a magnificent architecture and Roman art. Action scenes covered with a good game of cameras and an impressive photography. Undoubtedly an excellent work that is also deserving of the golden statuette, Oscar for best visual effects and best costumes.
Acting
If we talk about this film we can not leave aside the performances, Russell Crowe performs an excellent role, an adaptation to the character impressive and really touching but at the same time seems invincible in the combat arena, a man with firm values and with a love for the Roman Empire that supposed the pillar of his strength. A character that many of us will remember today in the year 2021. Russell Crowe's performance in this film will undoubtedly go down in history with the Oscar for Best Actor.
Although the eyes of the critics are focused on Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix does an extraordinary job, he is even nominated for an Oscar for his performance in the category of best supporting actor, however, in this opportunity he fails to win the statuette. Despite not having that precious award, I think it was a phenomenal performance on his part, giving life to a character totally opposite to the protagonist, an antagonist that many will remember for the hatred that was felt when he appeared on the scene. Another truly memorable performance.
Conclusion.
This is undoubtedly a memorable film, a classic film from my point of view, a production in which you can enjoy every minute of duration. This is a film where it is difficult to find any fault, for that reason it caused a furor at the Oscars at the time and even today is a film to always keep in mind. Few films I consider among my favorites, however, this one captivated me since I saw it for the first time, for me this film is a work of art. There is not much more to say, it is that kind of work of art that is very difficult to explain with letters or words, just watching it is that you can truly come to appreciate.
