Hola Hivers amantes de las películas y series, en esta oportunidad quiero compartir con todos ustedes mi apreciación de una película basada en una época muy importante para toda la humanidad, en lo particular esta historia me fascina y siempre deseo ver las producciones que se realizan sobre Thomas Edison y Nicola Tesla, la película que hoy reseño se llama Una Guerra Brillante estrenada en el 2017.
Esta es una película estadounidense cuenta con una duración de poco más de 100 minutos, es una producción que la podemos catalogar dentro del género dramático, basado en hechos reales (e importantes) ocurridos en el siglo XIX, una película con cierto aroma a biografía e incluso a documental.
Sinopsis:
El mundo ahora está cambiando y la electricidad es el futuro en las industrias y hogares del mundo. Genios como Edison acompañado por JP Morgan y Nikola Tesla con Westinghouse, lucharán para crear el mejor sistema eléctrico para proveer de energía a EEUU, una lucha propagandística y de egos que cambiará al mundo para siempre.
Análisis de la Película
Hace un tiempo atrás escribí sobre esta fracción de la historia e incluso el titulo es parecido porque me encanta esta lucha de mentes brillantes, genios que coincidieron en su tiempo y que hoy son recordados. En aquella oportunidad se trataba de un Docudrama llamado Gigantes de La industria y les confieso que fue uno de mis capítulos favoritos.
Análisis de la Película
Me agrada ver este tipo de producciones y si en el poster aparece nada más y nada menos que Benedict Cumberbath es básicamente una película obligatoria para mí, a estas alturas no me explico como no vi esta producción o quizás no leí el título pero no había visto hasta ahora. La encontré en el catálogo de HBO Max y no dude ni un segundo en seleccionarla y sentarme a ver una historia que si bien ya se como termina todo, podría verla una y otra vez. Ahora mi curiosidad se reflejaba en como se realizaría la narración de los hechos de tal importancia en esta película.
Thomas Edison Vs George Westinghouse
A pesar de que en el título aparece Nikola Tesla, debo decir que la película se centra mucho más en Westinghouse que en el propio Tesla, la trama se desarrolla en el enfrentamiento directo de Edison y este famoso empresario de la industria ferroviaria. Hay un desplazamiento en la trama que deja a Tesla en un segundo plano en cuanto a importancia, creo que es algo que no me atrevo a afirmar debido a que no soy historiador pero me hubiese gustado que se centrara en ambos inventores en lugar de colocar en primer plano a Westinghouse.
Corriente Continua Vs Corriente Alterna
Cada genio portaba una bandera, una con la Corriente Continua y el otro bando con la Corriente Alterna, ambos sistemas luchaban por demostrar su eficiencia y seguridad ante el inminente cambio que la energía eléctrica haría en todo el planeta. La película nos lleva a esta contienda donde cada bando desea demostrar a los inversionistas y a los funcionarios del gobierno que ellos poseen el mejor sistema.
La película nos muestra aspectos clave sobre todo de Thomas Edison, su ego quizás le impedía desarrollar mejor sus ideas, seguido de esa presión que el famoso banquero JP Morgan colocaba sobre la espalda del famoso inventor. Notamos a un genio que también es bloqueado por su propio carácter pero que deseaba ganar la guerra de corrientes, para ello la película nos muestra las demostraciones con las que intentaba sabotear el progreso de Westinghouse.
¿Hasta qué punto en la historia llega la película?
La película nos narra los hechos hasta la gran feria en Chicago de 1893, por lo cual no observaremos otros famosos acontecimientos que ocurrieron luego, como la lucha por la adquisición del contrato de las Cataratas del Niagara y por supuesto la muerte de ambos genios. En mi caso, deseaba seguir viendo la historia, pensaba que la película llegaría hasta el contrato de las Cataratas del Niagara, sin embargo, no me quejo debido que la Feria de Chicago fue un punto de inflexión muy importante en esta lucha de genios.
Actuaciones
Benedict Cumberbath interpreta a Edison, un genio arrogante e irreverente que con elocuencia nos puede hacer reír en algunas ocasiones, tiene una esencia parecida a Tony Stark en el universo cinematográfico de Marvel, pero demostrando que se puede adaptar a este tipo de personaje que también es muy complicado. Me agradó bastante esta ecuación y es uno de los actores mas cotizados en estos momentos por su gran talento, es impresionante.
Hablando de Marvel, también tenemos una aparición de Tom Holland, realizando un papel secundario siendo el secretario de Edison, dos actores que nos agrada ver en la gran pantalla. Holland hace una buena interpretación hasta donde el guion le permite, su personaje por momentos carece de verdadera importancia, solo seguir al genio de Edison y de vez en cuando enfrentarlo para que intente tomar las mejores decisiones.
Me gustó mucho el personaje de Westinghouse, interpretado por Michael Shannon, la película sin dudas trata de sumarle importancia a este nombre que junto a Tesla lograron cambiar el mundo. Un personaje brillante y con una gran presencia en cámaras, como un imponente empresario que al mismo tiempo es un genio casi comparado con Edison y Tesla, así nos lo trasmite la película con una muy buena interpretación.

Es una película simple, un drama fácil de digerir y que se sostiene por las buenas actuaciones, la ambientación y sobre todo por la interesante historia que narra, sin embargo, a mi parecer le ha faltado trasmitir emociones un poco más fuertes, que nos hagan llorar o enojar por momentos, esto realmente no ocurre en la trama que cuenta con una historia con el potencial para trasmitir emociones y muchas enseñanzas. Se puede decir que para semejante pieza histórica la película se queda algo corta en cuanto la estructura del argumento, al menos así lo aprecio yo.
¿La Recomiendo?
Si, la película nos otorga buen entreteniendo, los personajes y las actuaciones sostienen la película y capta la atención hasta el final, es una película ligera y adecuada para verla una tarde en solitario o en compañía. Para los amantes de esta historia de la guerra de las corrientes quizás sea una película obligatoria para ver ya que es interpretada por actores top en la industria del entretenimiento. La recomiendo abiertamente.

Some time ago I wrote about this part of the story and even the title is similar because I love this struggle of brilliant minds, geniuses who coincided in their time and are remembered today. At that time it was a Docudrama called Giants of the Industry and I confess that it was one of my favorite chapters.
I like to see this kind of productions and if in the poster appears nothing more and nothing less than Benedict Cumberbath is basically a must see movie for me, at this point I do not explain how I did not see this production or maybe I did not read the title, but I had not seen until now. I found it in the HBO Max catalog and didn't hesitate for a second to select it and sit down to watch a story that, while I already know how it all ends, I could watch it over and over again. Now my curiosity was reflected in how the narration of the events of such importance in this film would be done.
Thomas Edison vs George Westinghouse
Although Nikola Tesla appears in the title, I must say that the film focuses much more on Westinghouse than on Tesla himself, the plot unfolds in the direct confrontation of Edison and this famous railroad entrepreneur. There is a shift in the plot that leaves Tesla in the background in terms of importance, I think it is something that I dare not affirm because I am not a historian, but I would have liked to focus on both inventors instead of placing Westinghouse in the foreground.

Performances
Benedict Cumberbath plays Edison, an arrogant and irreverent genius that with eloquence can make us laugh at times, he has a similar essence to Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but showing that he can adapt to this type of character that is also very complicated. I was quite pleased with this equation and he is one of the most sought after actors right now because of his great talent, he is impressive.
Speaking of Marvel, we also have an appearance by Tom Holland, performing a supporting role being Edison's secretary, two actors we are pleased to see on the big screen. Holland gives a good performance as far as the script allows, his character at times lacks real importance, just following Edison's genius and occasionally confronting him to try to make the best decisions.
I really liked the character of Westinghouse, played by Michael Shannon, the film undoubtedly tries to add importance to this name that along with Tesla managed to change the world. A brilliant character with a great presence on camera, as an imposing businessman who at the same time is a genius almost compared to Edison and Tesla, this is how the film transmits it with a very good interpretation.

It is a simple film, an easy to digest drama that is sustained by the good performances, the setting and above all by the interesting story it tells, however, in my opinion it has lacked to transmit emotions a little stronger, that make us cry or get angry at times, this does not really happen in the plot that has a story with the potential to transmit emotions and many teachings. It can be said that for such a historical piece the film falls a little short in terms of plot structure, at least that's how I appreciate it.
Do I recommend it?
Yes, the film gives us good entertainment, the characters and the performances hold the film and captures the attention until the end, it is a light film and suitable for an afternoon alone or in company. For lovers of this story of the war of the currents perhaps it is a must see movie as it is played by top actors in the entertainment industry. I highly recommend it.
