Hola cinéfilos, nuevamente quiero compartir con ustedes mi opinión personal sobre una película protagonizada por Tom Hanks dentro del género Western, una producción que podemos disfrutar en Netflix y que nos narra una historia a pocos años después de la guerra civil de Estados Unidos. Una película llamada Noticias del Gran Mundo.
Esta película estadounidense se introduce en el género Western, donde la acción no es la principal protagonista sino que se encamina más hacia el drama, una producción que es estrenada en enero del 2021 y que cuenta con casi las dos horas de duración. ¿Vale la pena invertir casi dos horas en esta película? Intentaré responder esa pregunta basado en mis gustos y mi apreciación personal.
Sinopsis:
Luego de la guerra civil estadounidense el capitán Jefferson Kyle Kidd se dedica a ir de condado en condado leyendo las noticias locales hasta mundiales. La gente paga para escucharle leer las noticias y las historias que ocurren en lugares lejanos. En su camino a otro pueblo para ofrecer su lectura el capitán Kidd encuentra a Johanna, una pequeña niña que fue secuestrada por una tribu Kiowa. El capitán deberá tomar una decisión si dejar a la indefensa niña a su suerte o embarcar una aventura de cientos de kilómetros para llevar a sus parientes más cercanos.
Análisis de la Película
Creo que uno de los aspectos que resaltan al momento de elegir este film es el hecho de que es protagonizada por un estupendo actor que siempre nos regala entretenimiento de calidad, hablo de Tom Hanks, este actor ya con una larga trayectoria en el cine es siempre un motivo para ver una película, incluso por nuestra mente pasa el siguiente pensamiento “si esta protagonizada por Tom Hanks debe ser una buena película”, al menos eso ocurre conmigo.
Además de ser protagonizada por este excelente actor, es dirigida por otro gran cineasta, Paul Greengrass, este director tiene en su filmografía excelentes trabajos incluido el de Capitan Phillips, una película dramática verdaderamente memorable que también es protagonizada por Tom Hanks, al tener esta referencia y sabiendo el excelente papel complementado con la estupenda dirección en el género dramático, ya ambos saben trabajar juntos en este tipo de rodajes.
La película está ambientada a pocos años de la guerra civil, una guerra que había dejado desbastada a la nación que estaba en ese proceso de reconstrucción, este film se centra en Texas un estado del sur donde se puede notar esa tensión, además, de la lucha interna también deben estar atentos a los nativos americanos que se encuentran en el territorio, “colonos matando para conquistar territorios y los indios matando para recuperarlo” es una de las frases que expresa el capitán Kidd en la trama, dando a entender un conflicto que para ese momento parecía no tener un fin claro.
Historia de Viaje
Las historias sobre viajes tienden a aburrirme, sobre todo los viajes en automóviles, en este caso el viaje evidentemente se realiza en una carreta a caballo y mostrando una muy buena fotografía del paisaje cálido y desértico, típico del lejano oeste. Esta historia de viaje si me pareció interesante, algo que tiene en común este tipo de historias es que siempre enfrentan obstáculos antes de llegar a un destino alejado, los peligros presentes le dan la emoción a esta trama que con poca acción sabe como desenfundar la pistola.
Desde cierto punto de vista en gran parte de la trama parece algo ilógico lo que hace el capitán, llevar a la niña tan lejos y arriesgando todo incluso su vida para llevarla, sin dudar de sus buenas intenciones y de un carácter comprometido con la justicia, conocemos a nivel psicológico la causa que hace que decida tomar esa decisión como si su vida dependiera de ella. Este concepto lo vislumbramos en las escenas finales y es una pieza clave para entender la película, a mi parecer le otorga un condimento interesante y muy adecuado a la trama.
Fotografía
La fotografía es de excelente calidad, los paisajes se contemplan de buena manera, así como también los juegos de cámara también ayudan a la ambientación, las escenas aéreas nos sumergen en ese basto territorio que parece no tener fin, sintiendo que cada poblado queda tan lejano en un camino tan desolado y difícil. Una muy buena calidad en cuanto a la fotografía, así como también en la ambientación y los vestuarios.
Actuación
Decir que Tom Hanks realiza un excelente trabajo no es algo que sorprenda al amante de las películas, un actor que se adapta muy bien a las historias dramáticas y que siempre nos puede otorgar escenas interesantes, sin embargo, mi enfoque en este caso no será solo para el protagonista, sino también para la pequeña actriz secundaria de esta historia.
Helena Zengel
Este es el nombre de la actriz que interpreta a esa niña que el capitán desea ayudar, su actuación sencillamente fenomenal, incluso digna de un Oscar teniendo en cuenta su edad, es nominada tanto para el Oscar como para los Globos de Oro como mejor actriz secundaria. Me parece interesante que un personaje que apenas hable tenga tanto impacto, eso me agrada ver en el cine, que incluso sin emitir ningún sonido se sienta el drama y conozcamos lo que sucede con tan solo ver sus expresiones, algo fascinante desde mi punto de vista.
Escenas en Silencio
Las mejores escenas en esta película son las que son en silencio, donde el drama expresado por las facciones de los actores son las que realmente complementan de buena manera la historia, ambos actores realizan un excelente trabajo en ese momento de silencio, con personajes muy diferentes pero que logran una muy buena química.
Influencia de Actores Secundarios
Ver esta excelente interpretación de Zengel me fue inevitable no recordar ese mismo efecto en la película Capitan Phillips, donde se el papel secundario tiene un impacto impresionante, parece que esto es un aspecto bien trabajado por Greengrass, director que sabe como impactar con escenas dramáticas impactando no solo con el protagonista o el actor famoso por decirlo de alguna manera, sino que logra que se complementen de buena manera los personajes para regalarnos buenas historias.

Esta película es interesante, combina una historia de viaje inmersa en un Western dramático, obtuvo varias nominaciones a prestigiosos premios y pienso que esas nominaciones están bien sustentadas. Es una historia de drama bastante completa donde se es fácil sumergirse en la historia y no despegarse de la pantalla hasta el final, un ritmo adecuado y una larga introducción antes de imprimir emoción a la trama, además, con un buen final donde se revelan varios aspectos necesarios para entender esta producción. Es a mi parecer una película a tener en cuenta ya sabiendo lo que el director y el actor pueden ofrecernos al trabajar juntos en una historia dramática.
¿La Recomiendo?
Si, es una muy buena historia y vale la pena invertir las casi dos horas de duración en esta película, sobre todo si conocemos esos trabajos anteriores como Capitan Phillips. Quizás no cuenta con mucha acción pero tiene mucho que ofrecer en otros aspectos como la actuación y la narrativa de la historia, una película que definitivamente recomiendo a los amantes de este género.

Besides being starred by this excellent actor, it is directed by another great filmmaker, Paul Greengrass, this director has in his filmography excellent works including Captain Phillips, a truly memorable dramatic film that also stars Tom Hanks, having this reference and knowing the excellent role complemented with the great direction in the dramatic genre, both already know how to work together in this type of shootings.

The photography is of excellent quality, the landscapes are contemplated in a good way, as well as the camera games also help the atmosphere, the aerial scenes immerse us in that vast territory that seems to have no end, feeling that each village is so far away in such a desolate and difficult road. A very good quality in terms of photography, as well as in the setting and costumes.
Acting
To say that Tom Hanks does an excellent job is not something that will surprise the movie lover, an actor that adapts very well to dramatic stories and that can always give us interesting scenes, however, my focus in this case will not be only for the main character, but also for the little supporting actress of this story.

This is the name of the actress who plays that little girl that the captain wants to help, her performance simply phenomenal, even Oscar worthy considering her age, she is nominated for both the Oscar and the Golden Globes for Best Supporting Actress. I find it interesting that a character who barely speaks has so much impact, that's what I like to see in movies, that even without uttering any sound you can feel the drama and know what is happening just by watching her expressions, something fascinating from my point of view.
Silent Scenes
The best scenes in this movie are the ones in silence, where the drama expressed by the actors' features are the ones that really complement the story in a good way, both actors do an excellent job in that moment of silence, with very different characters but that achieve a very good chemistry.
Influence of Supporting Actors
Seeing this excellent interpretation of Zengel was inevitable for me not to remember that same effect in the movie Captain Phillips, where the supporting role has an impressive impact, it seems that this is an aspect well worked by Greengrass, director who knows how to impact with dramatic scenes impacting not only with the protagonist or the famous actor so to speak, but manages to complement the characters in a good way to give us good stories.

This movie is interesting, it combines a travel story immersed in a dramatic Western, it got several nominations for prestigious awards and I think those nominations are well supported. It is a fairly complete drama story where it is easy to get immersed in the story and not detach from the screen until the end, an adequate pace and a long introduction before printing emotion to the plot, in addition, with a good ending where several aspects necessary to understand this production are revealed. In my opinion, it is a film to take into account knowing what the director and the actor can offer us when working together in a dramatic story.
Do I recommend it?
Yes, it is a very good story and it is worth investing the almost two hours of duration in this film, especially if we know those previous works like Captain Phillips. It may not have a lot of action but it has a lot to offer in other aspects such as acting and storytelling, a movie that I definitely recommend to fans of this genre.
