Hola cinéfilos, nuevamente en mi blog les quiero compartir mi opinión personal sobre una película que se encuentra disponible en la plataforma de Netflix, de hecho, en muchas ocasiones elijo una película de esta plataforma de forma aleatoria, con un mínimo de información, sobre todo la pequeña y en muchos casos inútil sinopsis que nos otorga este importante servicio de streaming, vi que el tema es de los que me agrada ver en la pantalla y decidí sin pensarlo mucho reproducir esta película. Ahora, y como es de costumbre, compartiré mis impresiones sobre ella. ¡Comencemos!
Para comenzar, debo decir que esta película se introduce en uno de mis géneros favoritos, un futuro post apocalíptico en donde la supervivencia de la humanidad pende de un hilo, sé que es un subgénero recurrente y quizás algo trillado en el mundo del cine, sin embargo, con tan solo leer esa descripción en la sinopsis me causa cierta curiosidad, es un género que al igual que la acción siempre estoy dispuesto a ver.
Sinopsis:
Tras un evento apocalíptico y el surgimiento de monstruos en la tierra, los sobrevivientes viven bajo la superficie. El joven Joel tratará de emprender una travesía imposible para reunirse con el amor de su vida.
Análisis de la Película
Lo más notorio de este film es su simplicidad en su estructura argumental, es una película que nos coloca en situaciones que en el cine ya hemos visto infinidades de veces, su argumento no es innovador más allá de los insectos gigantescos que nos muestran el director Michael Matthews, de hecho, es una producción que no se centra en buscar innovar el subgénero de futuro apocalíptico, tampoco de competir con otros filmes, solo presenta como recurso atractivo, una narrativa llevadera y que en ocasiones se vuelve emocionante, siempre tocando los clichés clásicos de las películas tanto de este tipo de futuros apocalípticos como de supervivencia, incluso adoptando también el típico estereotipo moralista sobre el final.
Confieso que más allá del título simpático, esperaba una película más profunda en su argumento, una producción que me invitara a pensar y a reflexionar sobre ese apocalipsis que siempre nos otorga interesantes temas de conversación y debate, sin embargo, a los pocos minutos de comenzar a ver este film notaremos que se encamina hacia otra dirección, un camino más parecido a comedia y sátira que propio del género post apocalíptico, es un estilo que en los últimos años ha tomado bastante impulso y que normalmente captan la atención de una manera distinta a la que las clásicas películas nos proponían en su momento.
Mezcla de Géneros
Ya al comenzar a conocer al protagonista comprendemos que no será muy profunda esta película, que se puede encaminar dentro de una sátira con un poco de humor negro, amor y aventura. Si bien todo es introducido en un escenario post apocalíptico, estos distintos géneros no predominan ni son tan importantes en la película, por lo cual obtenemos un filme con guiños a diferentes géneros donde el predominante es el de aventura y supervivencia.
La película se torna tan simple que pensamos que incluso pudiese parecer una parodia por unos instantes, sin embargo, todo lo anteriormente expresado no quiere decir que el filme sea malo en su totalidad, solo posee un enfoque distinto al que muchos críticos desean ver en un film introducido en este tipo de futuro.
Narrativa
A pesar de que claramente al guion le falta profundidad en sus argumentos, la narrativa hace que quedemos enganchados con el filme, la manera de contar la historia siempre es importante y creo que este es uno de los puntos fuertes de la película, aunque se pueda decir que es un guion con recortes parecidos de diferentes películas, logra trasmitir el mensaje y mantener la atención, siempre y cuando al espectador no le importe la falta de profundidad en sus argumentos.
¿Nominada a mejores efectos visuales?
Investigando un poco noté que este filme fue nominado a esa prestigiosa categoría, desde mi humilde opinión, creo que estos efectos visuales no son merecedores de un Óscar, creo que, si bien son utilizados correctamente en algunas escenas dinámicas, creo que es notorio que no están al nivel para representar a estos monstruos de sangre fría. Pienso que se habría formado toda una revuelta en las redes sociales si esta película fuese ganadora en la categoría.
Personajes
Los personajes de esta película son simples, no hay mucho que resaltar más a la de los típicos estereotipos del cine, sin embargo, el protagonista es tan simple que podríamos catalogarlo como “normal”, es básicamente un inútil en un mundo donde en cualquier esquina te pueden devorar y eso le otorga a la película un gancho para que el espectador se pueda conectar con el film desde el principio. Como todo protagonista “inútil” la trama lo llevará a una buena evolución, pero que tampoco se nota muy exagerada.
El conjunto de personajes en esta película, parece ser traídos de otras producciones, manteniendo sus estereotipos, incluso al momento de una especie de giro en la trama en donde muchos personajes cambian a otra postura, algo que de cierta manera no esperamos, pero tampoco nos impresionará del todo.

A pesar de que pareciera que escribo una crítica negativa del filme, la verdad es que no todo es caos en esta película, sin embargo, es debido decir que no es una película profunda que se sumerge en el subgénero post apocalíptico y nos muestra una complejidad innovadora en su argumento, es una producción simple desde un punto de vista argumental, pero con un buen hilo narrativo que seguir hasta el final.
No es para nada una película perfecta o que recordaremos por muchos años, sin embargo, tiene su dosis decente de entretenimiento, no pienso que sea tiempo perdido.
¿La Recomiendo?
Si, la recomendaría para aquellos usuarios que no buscan profundidad en la historia, sino que prefieren aquellas películas fáciles de digerir y de comprender, es un entretenimiento clásico y comercial que utiliza recursos ya vistos en el cine, pero que a pesar de la simplicidad logra entretener con una buena narrativa sobre un protagonista aparéntenle inútil. Si buscas una película que con grandes giros en la trama y que te haga explotar la cabeza, este no es el film que buscas, fuera de eso, la recomendaría.

Now, as usual, I will share my impressions of it. Let's begin!
To begin, I must say that this film is introduced in one of my favourite genres, a post apocalyptic future where the survival of humanity hangs by a thread, I know it's a recurring subgenre and perhaps somewhat trite in the world of cinema, however, just reading that description in the synopsis causes me some curiosity, it is a genre that just like action I'm always willing to see.
Synopsis:
After an apocalyptic event and the rise of monsters on earth, the survivors live below the surface. Young Joel will try to undertake an impossible journey to reunite with the love of his life.
Film Analysis
The most notorious thing about this film is its simplicity in its plot structure, it is a film that places us in situations that we have already seen countless times in the cinema, its plot is not innovative beyond the giant insects that the director Michael Matthews shows us, in fact, it is a production that does not focus on seeking to innovate the subgenre of apocalyptic future, Nor to compete with other films, it only presents as an attractive resource, a bearable narrative that sometimes becomes exciting, always touching on the classic clichés of films of this type of apocalyptic futures and survival, even adopting the typical moralistic stereotype about the end.
I confess that beyond the nice title, I was expecting a deeper film in its plot, a production that would invite me to think and reflect on this apocalypse that always gives us interesting topics of conversation and debate, however, a few minutes after starting to watch this film we will notice that it is heading in another direction, A path more similar to comedy and satire than to the post-apocalyptic genre, a style that in recent years has gained a lot of momentum and that usually captures the attention in a different way than the classic films proposed to us at the time.

As soon as we get to know the main character, we realise that this film is not going to be very deep, that it can be considered a satire with a bit of black humour, love and adventure. Although everything is introduced in a post-apocalyptic scenario, these different genres do not predominate or are not so important in the film, so we get a film with nods to different genres where the predominant one is that of adventure and survival.
The film becomes so simple that we think it might even seem like a parody for a few moments, however, all of the above does not mean that the film is bad in its entirety, it just has a different approach to what many critics want to see in a film introduced in this type of future.
Narrative
Although the script clearly lacks depth in its plots, the narrative keeps us engaged with the film, the way the story is told is always important and I think this is one of the strengths of the film, although you can say that it is a script with similar cuts from different films, it manages to convey the message and keep the attention, as long as the viewer does not mind the lack of depth in its plots.
Nominated for best visual effects?
Doing some research I noticed that this film was nominated for this prestigious category, from my humble opinion, I think that these visual effects are not worthy of an Oscar, I think that, although they are used correctly in some dynamic scenes, I think it is notorious that they are not at the level to represent these cold-blooded monsters. I think there would have been an uproar on social media if this film were to win in the category.
Characters
The characters in this film are simple, there is not much to highlight more than the typical stereotypes of the cinema, however, the protagonist is so simple that we could classify him as "normal", he is basically a useless in a world where in any corner you can be devoured and that gives the film a hook so that the viewer can connect with the film from the beginning. Like any "useless" protagonist, the plot will lead him to a good evolution, but it doesn't feel too exaggerated.
The set of characters in this film, seems to be brought from other productions, keeping their stereotypes, even at the moment of a kind of plot twist where many characters change to another position, something that in a certain way we do not expect, but it will not impress us at all.

Although it seems that I am writing a negative review of the film, the truth is that not everything is chaos in this film, however, it is due to say that it is not a deep film that dives into the post apocalyptic subgenre and shows us an innovative complexity in its plot, it is a simple production from a plot point of view, but with a good narrative thread to follow until the end.
It's by no means a perfect film or one that we will remember for years to come, however, it has its decent dose of entertainment, I don't think it's time wasted.
Do I recommend it?
Yes, I would recommend it for those users who are not looking for depth in the story, but prefer those films that are easy to digest and understand, it is a classic and commercial entertainment that uses resources already seen in the cinema, but despite the simplicity it manages to entertain with a good narrative about a seemingly useless protagonist. If you're looking for a film with big plot twists that will make your head explode, this is not the film for you, otherwise I would recommend it.
