Chernobyl 1986

Hello Hivers movie and series lovers, today I want to comment on a movie whose name could capture the attention of viewers due to the delicate situation in Europe, it is about one of the most famous accidents in history and its devastating effects, I'm talking about the movie called Chernobyl.
This is a European production that takes us to an event that changed the history and perception of nuclear energy, an event that perhaps led to the subsequent fall of the Soviet Union. A film that runs just over 130 minutes and introduces us to the drama and romance genre.
Synopsis:
Alexey is a fireman at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, after a terrible explosion in the reactor of the nuclear power plant all the safety agencies must work together with the engineers to contain the problem. With the unceasing danger of radiation, a group of men will risk their lives so that this disaster does not become a major one.
Movie Analysis
HBO Series
I must confess that I have not seen the HBO series, it is a highly acclaimed series that many recommend, it is on my long list of series to watch as this type of theme attracts me a lot, however, I can not make an objective comparison with the HBO series, I understand that the plot they develop very different, so I will write my impression only of this film without comparing it.
Based on a True Story
Something that always offers us a special seasoning for movies (I never get tired of saying it), to know a little of the details that happened in a story that perhaps we already know but in its development we do not know the details or in this case the suffering of many people trying to contain the disaster.
In this film we can know a small part of the story of the "liquidators" who, despite the latent risk of suffering a dreadful death by radiation, faced the problem before a disaster that could reach the Ukrainian capital and even extensive areas of the European continent, in fact, at the end of this film we are shown that it is produced in honor of those people who as a suicide squad avoided a greater disaster.
These details, these heroes (regardless of political ideology) prevented death from reaching densely populated cities and the land contaminated for decades by radiation from shrinking. What happens in the film was the real problem back then, with the same alternative and of course, the same sacrifice.
A very interesting film in that sense, which would capture the attention of any viewer interested in this kind of stories and that make us understand a little more those moments where Europe could be devastated by radiation. Now, I will tell you how the film develops this story.
Introduction and Romance
The film shows us an introduction about the main characters, far from being a scientific introduction inside the reactor, it develops into a romance with symptoms of instability but where there is still some appreciation between these two characters. This introduction takes us down a dramatic path leaning more towards the familiar.
I must say that I am not a big fan of romance in movies, in this movie the romance is not so significant, even the arguments and those decisions that affect especially Alexey are imposed. Perhaps the producers decided to introduce romance so as not to focus entirely on the nuclear plant issue, however, this romance seems to me a bit empty or poorly structured, perhaps at times we can think that it is left over in the film, thoughts that arise before we get to the events that make change the plot completely, that disaster that we all know.
This sense of romance and even family drama in my opinion is introduced so that viewers can feel the sacrifices those people had to make, a full and normal life surrounded by their loved ones, some simply never saw the light again after entering the nuclear plant. Even though Alexey was not the perfect family man we can see an evolution in that sense in his character, also, seeing scenes between friends and family and even Flashback to highlight that sacrifice.
The Disaster and its Alternatives
The conditions inside the nuclear plant after the explosion are frightening, especially knowing that there is that invisible but deadly enemy called radiation, but not only that will face the heroes of this story, other conditions such as extreme heat will be part of the story, even must be introduced in water heated by the same reactor, as if they put in a boiler to cook alive, that made the radiation was in the background in their concerns.
We observe an evolution in some characters who begin with great fear but then decide to face the problem before radiation wreaks havoc in densely populated cities. So is the evolution of the protagonist, we observe an unstable man worried only about himself, but who finds a different path to give meaning to his life.

Final Opinion
The story is very interesting, however, the execution has certain aspects that do not convince me, I think the romance that borders on family drama is introduced by force to generate that sense of sacrifice by the "liquidators" who contained the disaster. Another approach is the evolution of the main hero who at times seems to have an exaggerated resistance, while others succumb to the effects of radiation and other obstacles, he is always on his feet and with great energy, that aspect makes it a little out of reality.
Despite that, I find the film entertaining when the pace increases after the reactor explosion, I think that despite the flaws it achieves the goal of entertaining and giving us a story that represents a scar on humanity but that could have been an open wound for many decades if it was not contained.
Do I recommend it?
Yes, I liked the film despite the flaws mentioned above, but it is a very interesting story that manages to be a good entertainment, especially in its second segment where the pace begins to pick up. It is a film to know in some detail that famous disaster, that undoubtedly adds value to the production especially for lovers of films with historical events. I recommend it.
