Movie Review #40 - Tomorrowland

Review by @josalarcon2 · 2432d · of Tomorrowland

There are films that usually start with a path that inevitably led to success, but there are also films like Tomorrowland that deflate in the end and end up being more of the same; an audiovisual attempt to want to stand out but where the plot does not get entrenched by how badly worked it is.

# Tomorrowland is a visually fabulous film that shows us a duality of worlds in a magnificent way with visual effects that emulate any science fiction film. All that alternative and super technological world where the best representatives of humanity live is perfectly constructed to make us feel that we are witnessing a great utopia that we hope will one day become reality. However, the problem with this film is precisely that, that the most outstanding thing is its visual aspect and the great atmosphere that it manages to build around them because argumentally the film lacks many elements that manage to secure it, elements that surpass the fantasy and make it a very good film.

This is a film whose story seemed to be well prepared, after all create a script where we focus on the desperate search for the best people humanity can offer to take them to a super metropolis from which to build the future of the world is really great, However, the fact that it was dressed with an end-of-the-world subplot where a clock constantly established the exact date of the end of the world is simply absurd, and even more so if you add to that a relentless hunt where you put child robots as recruiters of people and George Clooney as the determining factor so that humanity may or may not have been saved. Yes, not even the presence of Clooney was able to give more strength to this film and is that the motivations that develop the characters do not seem to make sense. We have a utopian world full of brilliant people who isolate themselves from the normal world because they know that humanity is lost instead of using their knowledge to help, and if it weren't absurd enough instead of helping, they make things worse by preventing recruiting "robots" from bringing into tomorrow's world people who want to help.

# Basically the film is summed up in a search/hunt where the people in charge of the utopian world do all sorts of things to prevent their world from becoming known and to prevent a young girl who could save them from going to their world. Yes, no one understands how having a way to save humanity you choose not to do it, and more if you don't explain well the reasons to refuse.

The film advances with scenes of travel, of discovery that becomes eternal because they are only placed to try to fill the dozens of holes in the plot, holes that are very evident by the lack of strength that covers the characters, few interesting things happen and the film continues to stand out only at a technical level because the story is lost too much, falling into something repetitive and even boring where we do not see the story go forward or go down a promising path. The truth was that I expected something better from this film, especially for the good group of actors it has and for being a story built through a really great visual atmosphere where we appreciate a different technological world, a world built around a superior society, a perfect world that transports us to the top of what society could achieve if it were dedicated to improving the world.

# This without a doubt is a film that thanks to the way all the visual elements are constructed did not end up being a disaster because at script level it has too many problems. At certain points, it even seems like a film made to stand out only on television and not a Disney super production. #

My Review: 5,3/10
