I decided to rewatch Akeelah and the Bee, and honestly, I came out of it with a really positive impression. There is something about this movie that feels simple but at the same time very meaningful, because it takes a spelling competition and turns it into a story about confidence, family, pressure, and the fear of being different. What I liked the most is that Akeelah isn't presented as someone who has everything figured out from the beginning. She is talented, yes, but she also doubts herself, and that makes her journey much more interesting.

Akeelah is probably what makes this movie work so well for me. She's a young girl who discovers that she has an ability that can take her much further than she imagined, but instead of immediately becoming confident, she has to deal with the attention and expectations that come with it. I really liked that part because sometimes being good at something can actually become a source of pressure. Everyone starts expecting more from you, while inside you're still trying to figure yourself out.

And then there's Dr. Larabee, who I think is one of the most important parts of Akeelah's story. He doesn't simply teach her how to spell difficult words and send her to competitions. He challenges her mentally and pushes her to understand that talent is only the beginning. There are moments where his methods can feel harsh, but I understood what the movie was trying to show through their relationship. Akeelah needed someone who would challenge her instead of simply telling her that she was talented.

At first, this feels like something she has to accomplish by herself, but eventually the people around her begin to understand how important this is to her. I liked that because it makes the spelling bee feel much bigger than just a competition. It becomes something that gives people around her a reason to come together and support one of their own.

Dylan is another character I really liked because his presence gives Akeelah's competition a more personal side. He isn't simply there to be the person she has to defeat. He's also dealing with pressure from his own family and expectations, and that makes the rivalry between them more interesting. I actually liked the fact that the movie doesn't make their relationship purely about winning and losing, because there is also a sense of respect between them.
Dylan es otro personaje que me gustó mucho porque su presencia le da un lado más personal a la competencia de Akeelah. No está simplemente ahí para ser la persona que ella tiene que derrotar. A more critical point: I think the movie sometimes makes Akeelah's journey a little too convenient, especially when everything begins coming together around her. Some of the emotional moments are very obvious, and you can sometimes see where the story is going before it gets there. But honestly, that didn't take away too much from my enjoyment because the characters and the message were strong enough to keep me invested

The competition becomes the final test of everything she has learned throughout rns to believe in herself. For me, that's what makes this movie worth watching even years after its released.
La competencia de ortografía en sí es donde todo llega a su punto culminante. Para cuando Akeelah llega a esa etapa, ya no estamos viendo la película solo para descubrir si puede deletrear una palabra difícil. Ya hemos visto cómo lucha con su confianza, la presión, los problemas familiares y las expectativas que recaen sobre ella. Por eso, de repente, cada palabra se siente importante. La competencia se convierte en la prueba final de todo lo que ha aprendido a lo largo del camino para creer en sí misma.
