Today I will be talking about and recommending a classic of Latin American cinema and one of the best rated films of Brazilian cinema; Tropa de Elite is a duo of films of the genres Action/Crime/Police that is among the Top productions of this genre, if you like this type of film, I fully recommend both, and although it is well known that second parts are not good, this series of films are really worth it.
Algo que suele caracterizar al cine de acción latino es que a diferencia de las producciones de Hollywood, Bollywood y Asia, basan la estructura de la película en otra que no es la conocida como ‘El camino del héroe’ un estilo donde el protagonista nos cuenta su historia, luego conoce el problema, entra en el arco de redención y consigue su objetivo, en Latinoamérica se suele aplicar un patrón donde se evita el final feliz, donde no hay héroes y solo intentan contar y la estructura suele ser otra.
Something that usually characterizes Latin action films is that unlike Hollywood, Bollywood and Asian productions, they base the structure of the film on something other than what is known as 'The Hero's Path', a style where the protagonist tells us his story, then knows the problem, enters the arc of redemption and achieves his goal, in Latin America a pattern is usually applied where the happy ending is avoided, where there are no heroes and only try to explain a history and the structure is usually different.

Basadas en el libro Elite da Tropa (Tropa Élite) escrito por el sociólogo Luiz Eduardo Soares, y una banda sonora intensa que acompaña la estructura frenética de la película, puedo asegurarles que es una tripleta perfecta entre la historia, los gráficos y el sonido.

En Latinoamérica el estilo de Tropa de élite suele gustar, por el hecho de a pesar de ser novelas de ficción, muestran una realidad que es cotidiana para muchos, el crimen, la corrupción, las estructuras delictivas y a personajes que como muchos del público intentan sobrevivir en una sociedad complicada.
Yo quien personalmente he tenido que conocer y vivir estas estructuras en Latinoamérica, hoy veo este cine como quien ve películas sobre el apartheid o el VIH, problemas que evolucionaron a medida que evoluciono la sociedad y que más que desaparecer del todo, hoy en día son temas que preferimos no mirar bajo la premisa de que quizás si no le prestamos atención desaparezca. Como ya lo dije, este cine se caracteriza por contarnos una historia y con esto me refiero a que sin importar cuál es el final de dicha historia, la vida del resto del mundo va a continuar, casi que es contar el cómo una serie de decisiones afectan a un colectivo, pero que el tren al que conocemos como vida solo se detiene para algunos mientras el resto sigue hacia adelante.
In Latin America, the style of Tropa de élite tends to be liked for the fact that, despite being fictional novels, they show a reality that is everyday for many, crime, corruption, criminal structures and characters who, like many of the audience, are trying to survive in a complicated society.
I personally have had to know and live these structures in Latin America, today I see this cinema as someone who watches films about apartheid or HIV, problems that evolved as society evolved and that rather than disappearing completely, today are issues that we prefer not to look at under the premise that perhaps if we do not pay attention to them, they will disappear. As I said, this film is characterized by telling us a story and by this I mean that no matter what the end of the story is, the life of the rest of the world will continue, almost like telling how a series of decisions affect a collective, but that the train that we know as life only stops for some while the rest continues forward.

These films are usually told from the perspective of journalists, civilians or even criminals, in this opportunity the entire film is narrated and presented from the story of Captain Roberto Nascimento of BOPE (Portuguese: Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais) the Special Operations Battalion of the Military Police of Rio de Janeiro, who shows us the human side of an officer who seems to be losing his humanity.
Es curioso porque ambas películas comienzan de la misma manera, con escenas que te muestran lo frenéticas que serán las historias, que en muchos casos te harán formar una opinión sesgada y que intentan buscar que te parezca absurdo que ocurra lo que estás viendo, para luego hacer un salto en el tiempo donde comienzan a contextualizarte bajo la idea de mostrarte como llegamos hasta ese momento; Como dicen en una de las escenas, ‘Ningún policía dispara sin una razón’, y ya sean buenas o malas razones, la historia se encargara de mostrarte el porqué de cada una de las acciones que se tomen a lo largo de la película y las reacciones que estas ocasionan.
It's funny because both films begin in the same way, with scenes that show you how frenetic the stories will be, which in many cases will make you form a biased opinion and try to make it seem absurd that what you are seeing is happening, and then make a jump in time where they begin to contextualize you under the idea of showing you how we got to that moment; As one scene says, 'No cop shoots without a reason', and whether the reasons are good or bad, the story will take care of showing you why each of the actions taken throughout the film and the reactions they cause.

La violencia, la tortura, los niveles de corrupción, la crueldad y la frialdad que veremos en esta película para muchos conocidos que no pertenecen a Latinoamérica, me suelen decir que esto les parece irreal y poco creíble, mientras que los latinos entendemos que nuestro sistema funciona de esa manera. Por dar un ejemplo, ver cuerpos de alguien asesinado tirados en la calle y que las personas intenten seguir con su vida, como si de algo cotidiano se tratase.
The violence, the torture, the levels of corruption, the cruelty and the coldness that we will see in this movie, for many people I know who are not from Latin America, they usually tell me that this seems unreal and not very credible, while we Latinos understand that our system works that way. To give an example, seeing the bodies of someone murdered lying in the street and people trying to go on with their lives, as if it were an everyday occurrence.
[Filmaffinity](https://www.filmaffinity.com/es/filmimages.php?movie_id=109378)Para explicar un poco la sinopsis de la película, vamos a dividir ambas, ya que es toda una misma historia en un formato más fácil de digerir, mientras en Tropa de Élite la historia nos narra la visión del Capitán Roberto Nascimento y como se relaciona con su familia, y en particular con algunos funcionarios del BOPE que pasaran a ser los verdaderos protagonistas de esta historia, quienes a través de sus decisiones, van mostrando la evolución de la historia y el combate al crimen en las Favelas de Río de Janeiro antes de la visita del Papa Juan Pablo II.
Luego, como su nombre lo dice en Tropa de Élite 2, ahora el enemigo es otro y es porque nos cuenta el cómo derivado de todo lo ocurrido en la primera entrega, ahora el Capitán Nascimento debe enfrentar a otra estructura que ya no son lo que podríamos conocer como bandas delictivas, narcotraficantes y delincuencia común, un rival mucho más peligroso a mi parecer y que le presentara más retos tanto profesionales como personales.

Then, as its name says in Tropa de Elite 2, now the enemy is different and it is because it tells us how derived from everything that happened in the first installment, now Captain Nascimento must face another structure that are no longer what we might know as criminal gangs, drug traffickers and common crime, a much more dangerous rival in my opinion and that will present more challenges both professional and personal.
