Welcome dear psychopath travelers and thank you very much for having made a temporary stop in my post, today it is time to review a classic unmissable cinema that every movie lover should see even once in his life, I am talking of course about 'American Psycho' a film that will show us how deranged and strange the mind of a psychopath can be. Bienvenidos queridos psicópatas viajeros y muchas gracias por haber hecho una parada temporal en mi post, el día de hoy toca hacerle un repaso a un clásico imperdible del cine que todo amante de las películas debería ver aunque sea una vez en su vida, estoy hablando por supuesto de "American Psycho" un filme que nos mostrará lo trastornada y extraña que puede ser la mente de un psicópata. Sin más que agregar afilen sus hachas y cuchillos que estamos por comenzar.

American Psycho was released in 2000, based on the novel of the same name written by Bret Easton Ellis, directed by Mary Harron and produced by Edward R. Pressman Productions, has a duration of 1 hour and 41 minutes. It is a film of horror and black humor, the story focuses on Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) who belongs to high society so he knows firsthand that status and prestige are the most important thing within the social circle in which he moves, his friends Timothy Bryce (Justin Theroux), David Van Patten (Bill Sage) and Craig McDermott (Josh Lucas) are other individuals belonging to that world of wealthy people. The fact of focusing on banal things like entertainment does not satisfy Patrick so he will find it very enjoyable to give free rein to his most bloodthirsty side.
American Psycho fue estrenada en el año 2000, basada en la novela del mismo nombre escrita por Bret Easton Ellis, dirigida por Mary Harron y producida por Edward R. Pressman Productions, posee una duración de 1 hora y 41 minutos. Es un filme de terror y humor negro, la historia se centra en Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) quien pertenece a la alta sociedad por lo que sabe de primera mano que el estatus y el prestigio son lo más importante dentro del círculo social en el que se mueve, sus amigos Timothy Bryce (Justin Theroux), David Van Patten (Bill Sage) y Craig McDermott (Josh Lucas) son otros individuos pertenecientes a ese mundillo de gente pudiente. El hecho de centrarse en cosas banales como entretenimiento no le satisface a Patrick por lo que encontrara muy disfrutable el hecho de dar rienda suelta a su lado más sanguinario.

I like the use of the soundtrack since it manages to keep pace with the different twists that the plot gives, thus adapting to the different events contemplated by the film and making them more remarkable with an adequate musical accompaniment.
Me gusta la utilización de la banda sonora puesto que la misma logra seguirle el paso a los diferentes giros que da la trama, adaptándose así a los diferentes acontecimientos que contempla la cinta y hacer que estos sean más destacables con un adecuado acompañamiento musical.

The construction of the world captures a perspective of the life of high society, being its members highly frivolous and lacking any gram of empathy, leaving people who focus their attention on banalities such as business cards or different excesses. All this leaves an atmosphere that focuses on individualism and passes over any kind of feeling that an average person may feel, being a perfect context that desires and manages to capture people of great resources as insensitive and highly obsessed with their own status and that of the people around them.
La construcción de mundo plasma una perspectiva de la vida de la alta sociedad, siendo sus integrantes altamente frívolos y carentes de cualquier gramo de empatía, dejando personas que centran su atención en banalidades como tarjetas de presentación o diferentes excesos. Todo esto deja una ambientación que enfoca el individualismo y le pasa por encima a cualquier clase de sentimiento que una persona promedio pueda sentir, siendo un contexto perfecto que desea y consigue plasmar a las personas de grandes recursos como insensibles y altamente obsesionados con su propio estatus y el de las personas que los rodean.

The plot is pleasant, it is focused on Patrick and follows his different actions, the interesting thing about this is the fact that everything becomes increasingly morbid and bloody from one moment to the next, since its main objective is to show the psychological degeneration of the protagonist in a spiral of decadence that seems to have no end. I would say that the most remarkable thing that the narrative presents is the use of small details that are subtle but that when you notice them completely changes the perspective you have on the film, this is because it invites you to question if what was shown really happened as it was seen; this is so well worked that it can completely modify the meaning of the end.
La trama es agradable, esta se encuentra enfocada en Patrick y va siguiendo sus diferentes acciones, lo interesante de esto es el hecho de como todo se va tornando cada vez más morbosa y sangrienta de un momento a otro, puesto que su objetivo principal es mostrar la degeneración psicológica del protagonista en un espiral de decadencia que no parece tener fin. Diría que lo más destacable que presenta la narrativa es el uso de pequeños detalles que son sutiles pero que al notarlos cambia por completo la perspectiva que se tiene sobre la cinta, esto se debe a que la misma te invita a cuestionarse si lo que fue mostrado realmente paso como se vio; esto es tan bien trabajado que puede modificar por completo el sentido del final.

The protagonist is achieved in an exceptional way, from the go just to hear his first monologue it is made clear that he is not a normal person because the way he describes both his life and itself is strange; all this is a success since the logic of the character is to show a narcissistic and psychopathic person who goes further and further in order to satisfy his most disturbing whims. The thing does not stop here, since he also deviates and doubts his sanity being something that can again be foreseen by his behavior long before there is no doubt that his ravings are something serious. The rest of the characters are not focused but they seek more to represent a collective, which superimposes individualism and social status over anything else, being insensitive and complete imbeciles in general, who give an exaggerated importance to things only because of their effect on their social condition and lacking the most basic level of empathy; whereas the next sentence david says demonstrates what I say, "Where do we have reservations? I'm not really hungry but I would like to have a reservation" putting the prestige of having something first and foremost.
El protagonista está logrado de forma excepcional, desde el vamos con solo oír su primer monólogo se deja claro que no es una persona normal debido a que la forma en que describe tanto su vida como así mismo resulta extraña; todo esto es un acierto puesto que la lógica del personaje es la de mostrar una persona narcisista y psicópata que cada vez va más lejos con tal de satisfacer sus más perturbadores caprichos. La cosa no se queda aquí, ya que el mismo también desvaría y duda de su cordura siendo algo que nuevamente se puede prever por su comportamiento mucho antes de que no quede duda de que sus desvaríos son algo serio. El resto de personajes no son enfocados pero que estos buscan más representar a un colectivo, que sobrepone el individualismo y el estatus social por sobre otra cosa, siendo insensibles y unos completos imbéciles en general, que le dan una importancia exagerada a las cosas únicamente por su efecto en su condición social y careciendo del más básico nivel de empatía; siendo que la siguiente frase que dice David demuestra lo que digo “¿Dónde tenemos reservaciones? Realmente no tengo hambre pero me gustaría tener una reservación” anteponiendo el prestigio de tener algo ante todo.

American Psycho is one of those films that seeks to capture both the insensitivity of a collective and the degeneration of an individual, in addition, and this I consider even more important, it manages to incite the viewer to want to see it again to be able to fully capture all those little things that could be ignored the first time. That is why it deserves 3.5 stars out of 7, the fact that its ending I have multiple interpretations is something that is very appreciated and something for which it should be a cult film.
American Psycho es una de esas películas que busca plasmar tanto la insensibilidad de un colectivo como la degeneración de un individuo, además, y esto lo considero aún más importante, logra incitar al espectador a que quiera verla de nuevo para poder captar por completo todas esas pequeñas cosas que se pudieron obviar la primera vez. Es por ello que merece 3.5 estrellas de 7, el hecho de que su final tengo múltiples interpretaciones es algo que se aprecia mucho y algo por lo que debería ser un filme de culto.
