Welcome dear internet travelers lovers of monsters and thank you very much for making a temporary stop in my post, today I bring you another series from Korea, in this case it is a series to which they made a review in this community (I do not remember the name of the traveler that the public) the core of the matter is that the series "Sweet home" I drew a lot of attention for the use of humans facing unpleasant monsters something that from the go caught my attention. Without more to add prepare the weapons you have at hand because we are going to face some unpleasant beings.
Bienvenidos queridos viajeros del internet amantes de los monstruos y muchas gracias por hacer una parada temporal en mi post, el día de hoy les traigo otra serie procedente de Corea, en este caso es una serie a la cual le hicieron una reseña en esta comunidad (No recuerdo el nombre de la viajera que lo público) el meollo del asunto es que la serie “Sweet home” me llamo bastante la atención por la utilización de humanos enfrentándose a desagradables monstruos algo que desde el vamos me llamo la atención. Sin más que agregar preparen las armas que tengan a la mano pues vamos a enfrentarnos a algunos seres desagradables.

Sweet Home was released in 2020, based on the webcomic of the same name created by Kim Kan-bi and Hwang Young-chan, directed by Lee Eung-bok, Jang Young-woo and Park So-hyun, was produced by Studio Dragon, has 1 season of 10 episodes of more than 40 minutes each. It is a story of drama and terror, we are presented with Cha Hyun-soo a boy who lost his whole family and moved alone to an apartment, being a lonely boy and depressed for what he suffered. His life takes a turn when in his building strange things begin to happen to people being that they are becoming monsters and murdering the other neighbors, having to join the rest of the survivor to try to overcome the adversities that these terrible creatures represent.
Sweet Home fue estrenada en 2020, basada en el webcomic del mismo nombre creado por Kim Kan-bi y Hwang Young-chan, dirigida por Lee Eung-bok, Jang Young-woo y Park So-hyun, fue producida por Studio Dragon, cuenta con 1 temporada de 10 capítulos de más de 40 minutos de duración cada uno. Es una historia de drama y terror, se nos presenta Cha Hyun-soo un chico que perdió a toda su familia y se mudó solo a un apartamento, siendo un chico solitario y depresivo por aquello que sufrió. Su vida da un giro cuando en su edificio comienzan a pasarle cosas extrañas a las personas siendo que estas se encuentran convirtiéndose en monstruos y asesinando a los demás vecinos, debiendo unirse al resto de sobreviviente para intentar sobreponerse a las adversidades que representan estas terribles criaturas.

In this section I will only say Heeeeeeeeeeeeere we are, don't turn away now, it is friends, the series includes in its soundtrack Imagine Dragons so it is automatically perfect. Outside of games the soundtrack is very epic and not only for the use of the song "Warriors" of the aforementioned band but for a variety of themes that simply fit like a ring to the finger to the different scenes.
En este apartado solo diré Heeeeeeeeeeeeere we are, don't turn away now, ha sí es amigos, la serie incluye en su banda sonora a Imagine Dragons por lo que automáticamente es perfecta. Fuera de juegos la banda sonora es muy épica y no solo por el uso de la canción “Warriors” de la banda previamente mencionada sino por una variedad de temas que sencillamente le quedan como anillo al dedo a las diferentes escenas.

Unfortunately this is the first section that begins to show shortcomings, the problem is not that the whole plot is developed in a closed place such as the building, but that the exploration that is doing is too rough and leaves many things unexplored or completely clarified having the opportunity to give a good context so that everything feels more pleasant. Another problem I see is the lack of exposure of the monsters, it is okay that sometimes they appear in surprise to give a certain degree of suspense, however, in the moments when shots of the city are shown this seems more the result of a war to be abandoned than the scenario of a chaos caused by monsters, being that at no time do they show other survivors or monsters apart from those in the building, lacking that sense of plausible city.
Desgraciadamente este es el primer apartado que empieza a mostrar carencias, el problema no radica en que toda la trama se desarrolle en un sitio cerrado como lo es el edificio, sino, que la exploración que va haciendo es demasiado tosca y deja muchas cosas sin explorar ni esclarecer por completo teniendo la oportunidad de dar un buen contexto para que todo se siente más agradable. Otro problema que veo es la falta de exposición de los monstruos, está bien que a veces estos aparezcan de sorpresa para dar cierto grado de suspenso, sin embargo, en los momentos en que se muestran tomas de la ciudad esta parece más el resultado de una guerra al estar abandonada que el escenario de un caos provocado por monstruos, siendo que en ningún momento muestran otros sobrevivientes o monstruos aparte de los que están en el edificio, careciendo de esa sensación de ciudad plausible.

The plot is what you can expect, humans surviving the constant attacks of extremely dangerous beings that can have a lot of strength, speed, be sensitive to sounds, among others, the above is seasoned with the fact that at any time any of the characters could become a monster giving even more suspense to the matter. All this constitutes the perfect ingredients to be dramatic, section that is not badly worked in general, which I can not say about the moments of terror being that at no time is it really terrifying or something minimally similar; however, on many occasions it focuses too much on the drama making it tedious to see since it lacks action and everything focuses more on the characters, the problem with this is that these are completely forgettable but I will return to that later.
La trama es lo que te puedas esperar, humanos sobreviviendo a los constantes ataques de seres sumamente peligrosos que pueden tener mucha fuerza, velocidad, ser sensibles a los sonidos, entre otros, lo anterior se encuentra sazonado con el hecho de que en cualquier momento alguno de los personajes podría convertirse en un monstruo dándole aún más suspenso al asunto. Todo esto constituye los ingredientes perfectos para ser dramático, apartado que no es mal trabajado en general, cosa que no puedo decir sobre los momentos de terror siendo que en ningún momento realmente es aterradora ni algo mínimamente parecido; sin embargo, en muchas ocasiones se centra demasiado en el drama haciéndola tediosa de ver puesto que carece de acción y todo se centra más en los personajes, el problema con esto es que estos son completamente olvidables pero eso lo retomaré más adelante.
The monsters present a problem since very few are those that are well achieved and really give a sense of terror when seeing them, in their great majority they are seen with a rather regrettable finish having a terrible appearance in the bad sense looking more cartoonish than terrifying, this is quite disappointing, since the Korean productions that I had seen had stood out precisely for being very good in this section.
Los monstruos presentan un problema puesto que muy pocos son los que están bien logrados y realmente dan una sensación de terror al verlos, en su gran mayoría se ven con un acabado bastante lamentable teniendo un aspecto terrible en el mal sentido viéndose más caricaturescos que aterradores, esto es bastante decepcionante, ya que las producciones coreanas que había visto habían destacado precisamente por ser muy buenos en este apartado.

The characters are the worst section of the series, they are complete strangers, I will only highlight some that are the ones that have the most focus but still do not manage to give the size to have even a decent characterization: Cha Hyun-so is the one who focuses the most during the film since from the first chapter he presents signs of being becoming a monster, as well as dealing with an internal struggle, this gives him all the necessary elements to be someone interesting, since he wants to protect his neighbors (for some reason he never mentions) and will use that power to do so; the problem is that it seems like a block, expressionless and boring, one thing is that it is shy and another is that it looks like a robot without feelings, and, when it shows some kind of emotion this is extremely ephemeral, with everything it goes through it never changes and is practically the same at the end of the season as at the beginning, to this is added the fact that his transformation is very convenient for the narrative, which character so bland by god.
Los personajes son el peor apartado de la serie, son completos desconocidos, solo destacaré algunos que son los que más enfoque tienen pero aun así no logran dar la talla para tener siquiera una caracterización decente: Cha Hyun-soo es el que más se enfoca durante el filme puesto que desde el primer capítulo presenta signos de estar convirtiéndose en un monstruo, así como lidiar con una lucha interna, esto le da todos los elementos necesarios para ser alguien interesante, ya que quiere proteger a sus vecinos (por algún motivo que nunca menciona) y usara ese poder para hacerlo; el problema es que parece un bloque, inexpresivo y aburrido, una cosa es que sea tímido y otra es que parezca un robot sin sentimientos, y, cuando muestra alguna clase de emoción esta es sumamente efímera, con todo lo que atraviesa nunca cambia y es prácticamente el mismo al final de la temporada que al inicio, a esto se le suma el hecho de que su transformación es muy conveniente para la narrativa, que personaje tan soso por dios.
Lee Eun-hyuk this is another wasted potential, he is pragmatic and logical with all the actions and decisions he makes, and that is all that defines him, being the leader of the group for presenting great intelligence, Lee Si-young does things, non-existent personality, in the end he has a twist that was not seen coming because he is taken out of the sleeve. I will stop highlighting since although there are some that I could mention, the truth is that they are only characterized by having a tragic past or something in particular such as being a criminal, this being all the remarkable thing about them. The rest of the characters are totally unknown being only unpleasant or boring, seriously they are like 7 characters that mostly do not contribute anything, they are there only to fill and the series would have benefited from not having them.
Lee Eun-hyuk este es otro potencial desperdiciado, es pragmático y lógico con todas las acciones y decisiones que toma, y eso es todo lo que lo define, el ser el líder del grupo por presentar una gran inteligencia, Lee Si-young hace cosas, personalidad inexistente, al final tiene un giro que no se veía venir debido a que es sacado de la manga. Dejaré de destacar puesto que si bien quedan algunos que podría mencionar lo cierto es que solo los caracteriza el tener un pasado trágico o algo en particular como ser un delincuente, siendo esto todo lo destacable de ellos. El resto de personajes son totalmente desconocidos siendo únicamente desagradables o aburridos, en serio son como 7 personajes que mayormente no aportan nada, están ahí solo para rellenar y la serie se hubiese beneficiado de no tenerlos.

Sweet Home is an interesting proposal that stumbles with error after error leaving it as what could be and was not, making bad decisions such as having an excessive number of characters that it does not use and are simply nonsense. That is why it deserves 2 stars out of 7, a good idea that was poorly executed so it ends up being something moderately decent pulling bad, future seasons may improve the matter but at the moment we only have a first season that has many shortcomings.
Sweet Home es una propuesta interesante que tropieza con error tras error dejándola como lo que pudo ser y no fue, tomando malas decisiones como tener una excesiva cantidad de personajes que no utiliza y sencillamente son un despropósito. Es por ello que merece 2 estrellas de 7, una buena idea que fue mal ejecutada por lo que termina siendo algo medianamente decente tirando a malo, puede que futuras temporadas mejoren el asunto pero de momento solo tenemos una primera temporada que tiene muchas carencias.
