[AAA][Realityhubs] Nerve

Review by @jsxchemistry · 2494d · of Nerve

Social networks have taken so much power in the real and virtual world that people are able to do anything to stand out in them, or why we constantly see all kinds of "influencers" and people looking for fame doing crazy things in public or dangerous challenges that expose them to the world. The search for fame or to become a trend can sometimes be dangerous, because that's basically what this movie is about.

# # Going deeper into story. #

This is a movie that seems to be taken from an episode of Black Mirror, where the power of the public and social networks are everything.

Industrious high school senior, Vee Delmonico, has had it with living life on the sidelines. When pressured by friends to join the popular online game Nerve, Vee decides to sign up for just one dare in what seems like harmless fun. But as she finds herself caught up in the thrill of the adrenaline-fueled competition partnered with a mysterious stranger, the game begins to take a sinister turn with increasingly dangerous acts, leading her into a high stakes finale that will determine her entire future. Initially we find a young and unpopular woman who decides to enter a new game through an app that begins a campaign of challenges with which people can earn quite a bit of money, however to stand out and earn more money you must take the challenges further and further, putting your life and reputation at risk. Well at the beginning the young woman lends herself to the game together with a young man who she recently met and with whom she decides to make a "team". Nevertheless these two begin to gain so much popularity in the app, that the challenges begin to get out of control and to be really dangerous and awkward, because the moderators of the app begin to play mental games with both young people, looking to destroy their lives in order to gain more visits in their app.

# # Deeper Review. # For me the movie is not bad, in fact I liked it a lot, but it seems to me that at the end of the movie they went the wrong way focusing on vain and superficial things that they could avoid.

The film had a great technological premise, after all an app that magically distributes so much money to accomplish certain challenges, was not going to end well. If they had focused more on the app, and in the challenge system, and not on a society of psychopaths looking for sadistic fun, they would have achieved a better result. After all the challenges were exciting, full of tension and drama, because we were never 100 percent sure how the characters would react and more if they would be able to meet such crazy and dangerous challenges.

# They also wasted the great connection of Emma Roberts and Dave Franco by seasoning it with a subplot of betrayal that brings nothing because they reconcile quickly. Another thing I loved about this movie was the scenery and photography, because they made the challenges look real and extremely stressful. That scene where Dave has to hang himself from a giant crane is really intense.

A great movie that with a little more work and development in the plot could have been better, with an average ending that does not raise much tension or drama, only gives us the perfect solution to a complex game.
