Director of week #1: Spike Lee.

Spike Lee is undoubtedly one of my favorite directors because he usually infuses all his productions with a certain social and political touch that gives a little more intensity to the plot making the whole film evolve and not just be something created to entertain. However, in one of his last films BlacKkKlansman, this director bets on making that criticism the main motivation of the whole plot, in this film the subtlety with which the director used to impregnate his films becomes something more recognizable, something extremely stronger that gives all the meaning to the film.

[Source](https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/487558-black-klansman?language=en-US) # BlacKkKlansman is a film totally different from any other film where the subject of racism is treated as the main condiment of the plot, this film takes the social problems generated from the constant racism of a society and transforms it into something fresh, something different, something irreverent without filters or half-measures; don't get me wrong this is not one of those super dramatic and intense films where we see the racial battle of a race that only wants to be treated equally, here we see a racial battle magnificently combined with a black humor and a constant satire that make it stand out a story that easily catches us from the first minute of the film.

The plot of this somewhat crazy film is fantastically constructed so that we see step by step how a black policeman manages, through his charm and his power to talk on the phone, to infiltrate a local KKK cell, a local cell extremely intense and full of members who preach racism openly against any member of the black community. It is simply magnificent to see how through phone calls a rookie African American policeman manages to get deep into the racist cell making its members trapped in its charms and allowing him to explore in detail all the local operations of the KKK. Of course you'll be wondering if the cop is black, how the hell was he accepted by the KKK? Well, this is a very simple, the film shows us the duality of a character through the interpretation of two actors, that is, the black policeman took charge of being accepted in the KKK through his charm and convincing power, while one of his white (and Jewish, yes, super ironic) companions took charge of being the face behind a voice that had already been accepted before being know in person.

The whole film allows us to see how two policemen infiltrate the KKK posing as white supremacist radicals in order to dismantle the cell and avoid a possible attack on members of the black community. But hopefully not everything is developed technically and following police protocols, the whole process of infiltration is hilarious because we see how the cops play with the members of the KKK, mocking their supposed white supremacy and their "white power" when they are not even able to recognize the voice and speech of someone they hate so much.

As I said this is not an intense movie but it is a real movie, a movie that uses the tints of comedy to give voice to a fact as strong as racism in the United States, a racism that spreads to the highest domes of politics and constantly abuses its privileged position to marginalize people of different skin color. The film really caught me quickly because it let me see in depth a very intense subject but told from a softer perspective through scenes recorded with really amazing music and film shots. The whole film maintains its comic and dramatic tone throughout its duration, but giving us some intense moments where we return to the reality that we are seeing a real film, a critical film and that in the end, ends with a clear and highly critical message about the social mistreatment and xenophobia that different people receive.

This is one of the best works of Spike Lee because it feels like that final relief of his career, in this film you can see that the director let himself go and managed to capture all the criticism that constantly added subtly to his films. He also gives us some of the most memorable scenes I have seen lately, scenes that stand out for the way in which they were filmed, scenes with shots in third person but shown from a different perspective, a perspective that places us in front of the characters seeing how everything happens. Without forgetting that the different touches of humor that he add throughout the film lower the intensity of the story but keeping it super direct, critical and above all very entertaining.
