How to scare the viewer away from your movie? All you have to do is slow-motion a huge amount of text on the screen and a voiceover who reads it like he has diarrhea.
One minute of the movie and there is not even a bit of plot, only text that "is to bring closer the events in the film."
After an exciting time, when the subtitles lasted almost one and a half minutes, we finally get a film, of course with impressions for the opening credits; D When the plot starts, we find out that someone is running away, someone is chasing and suddenly ... 22 years later;>
In the orphanage, a young man disappears and they are searching (of course, at this point the timeline has us somewhere because the events are intertwined, and within 2 minutes we do not know if it is a current event or just a past one)
After almost 5 minutes our main character appears on the plane (who logically turned out to be running away at the beginning of the film, but the director thinks that everyone will arrange the chronology of the scenes by himself) what I liked is the narration in time in the plot, it is interrupted, but it fits this production.
In this aspect, I find it interesting to solve with an internal monologue, it slightly resembles the Noir cinema of the 1930s and many games. So here I have to give a plus with that.
There was something positive and it is time to do something negative. The film is terribly poor when it comes to the visual setting, even theatrical or a film made by some television. There is no movie noise and a better camera, which unfortunately works a lot while watching.
The main character, Edward Carnby, has a stone, he decides to check what it is, and the only person who knows such things is an archaeologist. when Edward arrives in the city he is brutally attacked (one of the worst scenes in the history of cinema, literally nothing here works as it should, slowing down time, fighting, showing the bullet that hits the criminal, all of them are exaggerated)
Believe me, I'm trying to watch this movie and I'm looking for positives in them. Well, our main character, but he also knows a bit about archeology and the stone turns into a miniature telescope (that's exactly how the stone suddenly turned into a telescope) in the meantime, on the hunting ship, fishermen discover a chest that contains ancient evil and some people start to fall into a trance which tells them to follow the miniature spyglass. So much for the plot, not to spoil your fun watching this masterpiece.
In the next part, I will focus on what was intriguing and what did not work out (and there is a lot of it). The editing is very bad, sometimes we have several cuts and approximations in one scene, which was supposed to cause emotions, but even cause laughter.
Secondary characters behave like pieces of wood, playing with a learned script by heart, as a viewer we do not feel a bond with any hero. Edward doesn't know what he wants, he changes his mind several times in a matter of minutes.
Story cuts are a higher school of failure. We get a scene when Edward will answer the orphanage, to show in a second how he is sitting at his house and talking on the phone, and after another second he is outside and talking to an older man.
The plot was originally supposed to be based on the Alone in The Dark series of games, but the director and screenwriter Uwe Boll came to the conclusion that he would create his own vision in the dark, it is peculiar.
As a player, we will not find any reference (except darkness) to games here, and as a movie connoisseur we will not enjoy this movie. The film features monsters that are computer-generated in the cheapest possible way. I understand that the film is aimed at people aged 11-16, but there are many things that could be done better and more interestingly, so that despite the fact that it is a weak film in the plot, even though the effects can do something here, and in this aspect it is very, but it's very bad.
The closer to the finale, the stupidity of the heroes grows to such an extent that it's hard for me to understand how miraculously you can play so bad, clichéd and exaggerated. The music in the film is badly chosen, when something is happening suddenly happy music starts. The biggest stupid thing in the film is when the archaeologist comes to Edward and checks his things, then goes to his bed, while the cheerful music plays. some of the creatures are Zombies (you can see the budget was gradually reduced during the filming) As for the editing, the scenes are so badly edited that it's hard to write about them, the hero appears in several different scenes within a few seconds. Scenography is already a higher level of poverty.
(Trailer)This film is bad in every respect and does not even hide it, despite the title of Alone in The Dark, it has little in common.
At the end, the characters behave like an elite unit from the movie Aliens 2. The finale is a tragedy, I thought that despite the bad reviews, the film also has something good in itself, but for a few of my advantages there are a huge number of minuses and the movie is terribly boring and boring.
The lack of a plot line and the constant jumping between shots, which makes it impossible to focus on a given scene, makes you tired of watching.
The movie is so bad that even The Room is well done there, at least the timeline and the story were connected, here we get chaos and still poor special effects that theoretically were supposed to make the viewer very impressed, but in the end they only cause laughter and crying seeing it on screen.
Thank you for reading.
I estimate the film at 1/10 due to the fact that literally nothing here is well done and the initial plus I gave when it comes to internal narration, in the later stage of the film it is strongly flattened, which even the director spoiled
