Between 2007 and 2020 there was a fascination with scary stories on the Internet it was in this divine world that famous creepypastas like Slanderman and Jeff the Killler were created.
For many, many years they received a variety of stories, some better, some worse, and while Slanderman got a pretty good game for PC, Jeff was stuck all the time only in written form, until 2022, when it could be said that the fashion for the greatest creepypastas has passed, and the Hulu platform (in Poland Disney plus) released its version inspired by the character himself and changing a bit so that no one could claim copyright, and still create a story that would be known to readers.
The title Grimcutty is supposed to refer to a mysterious meme that kills its victims after a certain amount of time. The film blatantly uses this character Jeff, i.e., a tightly smiling guy with a knife and a schtick among teenage girls.
While Slanderman was unfortunately a poor film through tragic editing and scenes that contributed nothing, Grimcutty is what we expect from a film on the basis of a terrible story, we have exaggerated jumpscare and a heavily rubbery anatagonist, but thanks to this the film is enjoyable to watch and we get a film somewhere on the border of kitsch, but also a consistent plot.
The film draws from slandarman and gives what didn't work there here by adding a more tangible plot. You can clearly see that this is not a high-budget film, and yet it manages to grab your attention precisely because of this tangible thread.
The film is about a young person who sees a scary picture and begins to look for a solution to who the mysterious figure is, the parents meanwhile get a message that thanks to the influence of the Internet they perform strange challenges that are supposed to mutilate themselves.
The main character has to fight a battle with a demon that only she can see, while everyone around her sees her as a mentally ill person. The problem begins to slip away, when it turns out that more girls and guys are being driven insane by the mysterious picture.
Parents try to protect their children at all costs by disconnecting them from the net, but they don't know that this is what the dark entity is after. The film is in its own way light and well acted, we will not feel bored, while the scenes with the main antagonist, are interestingly realized.
The horror tries to address the problem of young people absorbed in the virtual world, and it works out quite well, not only do we get paranoia, but also the reactions of parents who are often helpless with what children do on the Internet what they read or watch.
Grimcutty rally is trying to be such a question for society because while the antagonist character is obviously fictionalized, the setting of insanity among teenagers is as real as possible, which led to various sometimes fatal accidents.
The film is an interesting entertainment for an evening. It's not gory or vulgar, so you can watch it at ease, while the jumpscars are woven in so that the viewer can prepare for them.
To sum up, it's a better film about a scary creature from the net than Slanderman, but the world waited too long for it to scare, now it's just a forgotten relic in a museum. Despite the name change it is still the same character with the same power rallying here there is no doubt what we are dealing with.
Plot-wise, the film holds up well and manages to build tension where it is needed. It is not a work without flaws and the biggest one is precisely the antagonist, who does not look very scary, but the atmosphere and the whole story keep it all in check and thanks to that the film works quite well. 6/10
W latach 2007-2020 panowała fascynacja strasznymi opowiadaniami w internecie to właśnie w w tym boskim świecie powstawały znane creepypasty jak Slanderman czy Jeff The Killler.
Przez wiele, wiele lat dostawali najróżniejsze historyjki jedne lepsze drugie gorsze i o ile Slanderman Dostał całkiem zgrabna grę na PC tak Jeff tkwił cały czas tylko w formie pisemnej, aż do 2022 kiedy można było by rzec, ze przeminęła moda na największe straszaki pojawia się platforma Hulu ( w Polsce Disney plus) wypuszczając swoją wersje inspirowana sama postacią i trochę zmieniając by nikt nie mógł doczepić się o prawa autorskie, a mimo to stworzyć historie która będzie wiadoma dla czytelników.
Tytuł Grimcutty ma odnosić się do tajemniczego mema, który zabija swoje ofiary po pewnym czasie. Film jawnie wykorzystuje owa postać Jeffa czyli mocno uśmiechniętego gościa z nożem i schiza wśród nastolatek.
O ile Slanderman niestety był kiepskim filmem przez tragiczny montaż i sceny, które nic nie wnosiły tak Grimcutty jest tym czego oczekujemy po filmie na postawie strasznej historyjki, mamy przerysowane jumpscare i mocno gumowatego anatagoniste, ale dzięki temu film ogląda się przyjemnie i dostajemy film gdzieś na granicy kiczu, ale i konsekwentnej fabuły.
Film czerpie z slandarmana i daje to co tam nie wyszło tutaj dodając wątek bardziej namacalny. Widać ewidentnie, ze to nie jest film z wysokim budżetem, a mimo to potrafi przykuc uwagę właśnie dzięki temu wątków namacalnemu.
Film opowiada o tym, ze młode osoby widza straszny obrazek i zaczyna szukać rozwiązania kim jest tajemnicza postać, rodzice w międzyczasie dostają wiadomosc, ze dzięki pod wpływem internetu wykonują dziwne challenge które maja za zadanie okaleczyć się.
Główna bohaterka musi stoczyć walkę z demonem który tylko ona widzi, zaś wszyscy wokół widza w niej osobę chora psychicznie. Problem zaczyna się wymykać, kiedy okazuje się, ze kolejne dziewczyny oraz chłopaki popadają w obłęd przez tajemniczy obrazek.
Rodzice starają się za wszelka cenę chronić dzieci odłączając je od neta, lecz nie wiedza, ze właśnie o to chodzi mrocznemu bytowi. Film jest na swój sposób lekki i dobrze zagrany, nie odczujemy nudy, zaś sceny z głównym antagonista, są ciekawie zrealizowane.
Horror stara się poruszyć problem młodzieży pochłoniętej w świat wirtualny i wychodzi mu to całkiem dobrze nie tylko dostajemy paranoje, ale i reakcje rodziców, którzy są często bezradni z tym co dzieci robią w internecie co czytają czy oglądają.
Grimcutty wiec stara się być takim pytaniem dla społeczeństwa bo o ile postać antagonisty jest oczywiście zmyślona tak otoczka obłędu wśród nastolatków jak najbardziej prawdziwa, która prowadziła do różnych niekiedy śmiertelnych wypadków.
Film jest ciekawa rozrywka na wieczorny wieczór. Nie jest jakoś krwawy czy wulgarny wiec na spokojnie można obejrzeć, zaś jumpscary są wplecione tak by widz mógł się na nie przygotować.
Reasumując to lepszy film o strasznym stworku z neta niż Slanderman, ale zbyt długo świat czekał by mógł straszyć, teraz jest tylko zapomnianym reliktem w muzeum. Mimo zmiany nazwy to dalej jest ta sama postać z ta sama mocą wiec tutaj nie ma wątpliwości z czym mamy do czynienia.
Fabularnie film się dobrze trzyma i potrafi budować napięcie tam gdzie jest to potrzebne. Nie jest to dzieło bez wad a największa jest właśnie antagonista, który nie niezbyt strasznie wyglada, jednak klimat oraz cała historia trzymają to wszystko w ryzach i dzięki temu film działa całkiem dobrze. 6/10
