Do you like bloody ice cream?
Ice Cream Man is a strange horror movie. Here you can feel the specific atmosphere of the films of the 80s and 90s where the budget was very low, and the effects crashed at every step, and the script left much to be desired.
Nevertheless, such films were watched due to the atmosphere of the VHS era.
The film is aimed at older youth, so we don't have excessive gore scenes here.
The plot is about a young boy Georg, who sees the massacre of a man who delivers ice cream, this traumatic situation causes Georgy to go to a sanatorium due to his poor mental state.
(Trailer)Many years of hard therapy with injections and ice cream make it change. When he leaves as an adult, a balding man lives in the house with a nurse and he starts delivering ice cream himself.
His illness begins to progress, he dreams of killing the children, but initially sells them ice cream, although he feels that he will start his plan soon. A group of friends always buy ice cream from him, but one day one of his companions disappears under strange circumstances.
A group of youngsters start looking for him on their own, finding a series of evidence that the Iceman may have something to do with it. Kidnapped by the ice Cream man, he slowly becomes a student, he watches the ice cream making process, they start to become friends. however, a group of friends want to free him and they are looking for a way.
In the meantime, two agents appear who will try to solve several cases. The movie is stupid and the plot with the agents is the lowest class embarrassment, each scene with these policemen even caused a stream of laughter (they did not know how to shoot, they could not stun the Ice cream man and many others) Many threads are unnecessary, many are also contradicted, while others are played twice (the scene in the garden repeats twice)
I understand that the budget is small, but the idiocy here outweigh any other productions of this, even the famous Dentist (who will probably appear in the review one day) The closer to the end, the more we can expect the finale. it will end, looking at the movie what they wanted us to tell us some things to direct us by the hand towards the finale.
The finale is stupid, but you can even understand what the director meant and the finale was the best of the whole movie. It is not a brutal movie (each murder is shown in such a way as not to arouse disgust)
The Ice Cream Man character itself fits in the trend of strange characters from horror movies, has its own moments and you can even feel a slight threat. However, the scenario is a real chaos, if we have an interesting scene, in a moment it is leveled even idiotic.
The film starred Clint Howard, known for his cameo roles in his brother Ron Howard. The movie Ice Cream Mam was made in 1995 and went unnoticed, but in 2014 there was a Kickstarter fundraiser to help the creators to create a sequel, but the fundraiser in between ended in a fiasco and so far we have only one film created by Paul Norman with the assistance of two screenwriters David Dobkin and Sven Davison.
After 27 years, you can feel in this film only the atmosphere of the VHS era with a large dose of nostalgia - light horror movies with a naive plot and predictable characters.
I rate the film at 6/10 because despite the huge number of mistakes, it is pleasant to watch and not boring, and the young characters have interesting adventures with Ice Cream Man.
I recommend it if you like old horror movies, where stupidity was included in the script, and the main characters always tried to make everything difficult
