French cinema has always tried to rearrange stories in such a way that the viewer is surprised by the screening and can indulge in consternation.

Last Year at Marienbad is a film that mesmerizes the viewer, the story, the setting the image of love.

This is not an ordinary film that rearranges stories in an easy way. Fragments like torn pieces of paper we get in scattered form and slowly put together this story full of love, madness and intrigue.

Looking at 1961, one can see one thing the film is one great tribute and an extremely well-crafted piece that puts the viewer in a state that remains long after the screening. Created to mature and power to fully enjoy the screening.

It's a film that mixes its vision in such a way that the viewer is bewildered by what he sees, feels confused, but this confusion is the key element of the film because the viewer, like the main character, is slowly given some information that is meant to show what happened last year in that hotel.

This is a poetic film, with a hint of poetry that accompanies the main character like a weapon he uses to find his beloved. The repetition of the piece is aimed at another important thing, namely showing scenes from different perspectives, which at first may seem as something unimportant, but the further you go the more twisted narrative forms a coherent whole.

The film is a drama with a strong emphasis on surrealism, which accompanies the characters as well as the audience. Plot-wise, it is a brilliantly gripping drama. Two strangers meet in a rich hotel. The man claims to know the woman and they were at the hotel the year before, but the woman can't remember anything. The man tries to remind the woman of more and more important elements and then something strange begins to happen.

The main plot axis is an older version of Memento where in one film as in the other everything is based on memory and how certain situations are remembered.

The film was a candidate for an Oscar, but did not win it, although looking at the execution and the perfect mix of different editing techniques it's even a shame that no one appreciated this work.

When watching it, don't expect big explosions or shootings, it's a film that is meant to tell a story in a rather unusual way, and in my opinion it came out brilliantly.

If you like strange movies, but full of an extremely polished storyline, this is the movie for you. Don't look at the fact that it's old and black and white because it surpasses by decades when it comes to technique and story. 8/10

Kino francuskie zawsze starało się przestawić historie w taki sposób by widz był zaskoczony seansem oraz mógł oddać się konsternacji.

Zeszłego roku w Marienbadzie to film, który hipnotyzuje widza, historia, scenografia obraz miłością.

To nie jest zwykły film, który w łatwy sposób przestawia historie. Fragmenty niczym rozdarte kartki papieru dostajemy w rozrzuconej formie i powoli układamy ta pełna miłości, szaleństwa i intrygi historii.

Patrząc na rok 1961 można zauważyć jedno film to jeden wielki hołd oraz niezwykle dobrze dopracowana sztuka która wprowadza widza w stan, który pozostaje na długo po seansie. Stworzony by dojrzeć i moc w pełni cieszyć się z seansu.

To film, który miesza tak swoja wizja, by widz był skonsternowany tym co widzi, poczuł zagubienie, jednak to zagubienie to kluczowy element filmu bo widzowie niczym główna bohaterka powoli otrzymujemy pewne informacje które maja na celu pokazać co wydarzyło się w zeszłym roku w owym hotelu.

To film poetycki czuć wrecz nutę poezji, która towarzyszy głównemu bohaterowi niczym broń która używa by odnaleźć swą ukochana. Powtarzalność utworu ma na celu jeszcze jedna ważna rzecz mianowicie pokazuje sceny z różnych perspektyw, które początkowo wydawać mogą się jako coś mało istotnego, jednak im dalej tym coraz bardziej pokręcona narracja tworzy spójna całość.

Film jest dramatem z dużym naciskiem ma surrealizm, który towarzyscy bohaterom jak i widzom. Fabularnie jest to świetnie trzymający w napięciu dramat. W bogatym hotelu spotyka się dwoje obcych ludzi. Mezczyna twiedzi, ze zna kobietę i byli w tym hotelu rok wcześniej, jednak kobieta nie może sobie nic przypomnieć. Mężczyzna stara się przypominać kobiecie coraz to istotniejsze elementy i wtedy zaczyna się dziać coś dziwnego.

Główna oś fabularna to starsza wersja Memento gdzie w jednym jak i w drugim filmie wszystko opiera się o pamięć i to jak zostają zapamiętane pewne sytuacje.

Film był kandydatem do Oscara jednak nie zdobył go, choć patrząc na wykonanie i perfekcyjne mieszankę różnych technik montażowych to wręcz szkoda, ze nikt nie docenił tego dzieła.

Oglądając go nie spodziewajmy się wielkich wybuchów czy strzelanin to film, który ma za zadanie opowiedzieć w dość niespotykany sposób historie i wyszło to moim zdaniem genialnie.

Jeśli lubicie dziwne filmy, ale pełne niezwykle dopracowanej fabularnie historii to film jest dla was. Nie patrzcie na to, ze jest stary i czarno biały bo przewyższa o kilkadziesiąt lat jeśli chodzi o technikę oraz historie. 8/10
