Witch burning The show must go on, even when you're about to die. The show must go on, the camera is rolling, strip down and play Have no shame the star you are, a million men's eyes on you Don't have words of objection, don't ask, just be a deserving object When your time fades, you'll fade into a pyre (Text mine) With experimental films, there is a problem that sometimes it is hard to find in them that spark and pearl that will shine, but sometimes you will find something so interesting that it stays in the memory for a long time.
Lux Æterna is a 50-minute documentary about the making of the video, but evil always lurks in the details. Over the course of 50 minutes, director Gaspar Noé exposes the production to viewers from the inside out, gradually building up the madness until the final scene. Some will say it's a film about nothing, but I was impressed already by the initial interview between Béatrice Dalle and Charlotte Gainsbourg - it's an interesting journey into the world of filmmaking and how each actress was somehow treated like an object in front of the camera.
From the usual conversation about burning at the stake, they enter more and more intimate matters of show business in order to somehow reckon with the past. After a while, however, the shooting of the clip related to the stage burning already begins. Stage burning is here for a reason, because, like witches in ancient times, they will be burned by the tyrant director. This is not an easy film to watch, at times the camera shows, something completely different to show the dissonance that is between the actress and what she has to do and how much to sacrifice. Gaspar does not play around, he even goes to the elements, giving the viewer what he expects. Scene burnout, various conflicts, breakdowns, drugs and many other things make every second of the film turn into a nightmare.
The director wants to evoke a certain reaction in the viewer at the end serves a flickering light, which can strongly affect. The end perfectly shows that the director always gets his way to find his perfect scene, even at the expense of the actress' health. Although it's a contrived film, watching it you will feel as if it's an authentic picture and finale. If you like cinema that on the one hand shows certain elements to get something out of it, and the director to some extent rehabilitates himself for his past works, this film will be perfect. Burning at the stake has always occurred, only instead of fire there is professional burning. It's worth a read, although I warn you the finale is strongly affected by the flickering light meant to induce nausea and dizziness wanting to show what these actresses felt during the scene. 7/10
Palenie czarownic Show musi trwać, nawet kiedy umrzeć już masz.
Koniec idealnie pokazuje, ze zawsze reżyser dopnie swego by znaleźć swoją idealna scenę, nawet kosztem zdrowia aktorki. 7/10
