Today, this time a review of a horror film that is successful from the first to the last minutes.
The film has a specific atmosphere of the 90s, but at the same time gets rid of the flaws of the cinema of those years. It is a well-made cinema that can scare you at the least anticipated moments. Although the story is revealing, it is well led thanks to the director and the actors.
Horror movies are always uphill, but this time we have finally managed to create a film that is not boring and has an interesting plot that keeps you in suspense until the last minutes.
The film tells the story of a sensationalist reporter who comes to a small town in New England, and when he arrives, he turns out to be worthless. However, at night, he discovers something that will change his life and its inhabitants.
From day to day, Village will start to believe in Mary earnestly, and the miracles that will happen will be sent by envoys from the Vatican.
Everything will start to get complicated when the journalist, despite strenuous facts about Mary's miracles, starts to doubt the divine power.
The role of the deniker was played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, well-known to The Walking Dead fans, who here plays very convincingly the first arrogant and fame-seeking journalist until complete transformation.
The thread of Mary itself is very interesting and brings to mind the burning of witches (the beginning of the film, so it's not a spoiler).
It turns it on and, more specifically, it throws the viewer into deep water.
There are jump scars in the movie, but they are well done and they scare you in a moment that we did not expect, and believe me, this movie scared me at least 3 times, once specifically.
The other actors play interesting, including Cricket Brown as Alice for her acting debut, she did very well.
She plays roles as a person who talks to Mary and is a voice for people, she has not spoken before, but thanks to a miracle she begins to convince everyone to deep faith.
The finale is well produced, full of tension and a slight reference to the Exorcist or Omen.
The film is based on a book by James Herbert, which was created in the 1980s. The film was made by Evan Spiliotopoulos, who previously focused more on family cinema.
The Unholy is a movie that stands out when it comes to the horror genre, it is not a masterpiece, but a well-made movie that gives you satisfaction while watching. In conclusion, it is worth watching my rating is 7/10
