If You Wish Upon Me | A Kdrama that drags you to places you weren't prepared for.

Review by @kenechukwu97 · 1227d · of If You Wish Upon Me

The first time I got a snippet of this Kdrama, If You Wish Upon Me, was in May 2022. This was 3 months before the first episode of the show got released. Back then, the only Intel I had about the show was a synopsis which was barely a 5-line description.

It wasn't the kinda Kdrama I would add to my watchlist because it was not a story about crime, investigation, action, business or stuff like that. Interestingly, I still added it to my watchlist because I saw the major casts and I know these blokes would never take up a project that doesn't have a strong message.

It took from August 10 - September 29, 2022, for the whole 16 episodes of the show to be released, but I never got to check it out until two weeks ago.

I finished watching the last episode of the show before the weekend and I want to make it obvious that the story captured in this Kdrama dragged me to a lot of dark sides of humanity which I wasn't prepared for. Like, it wasn't just a sad story. It was both sad and disturbing to see how far people's life can get ruined because of the type of childhood they had.

For the record, this won't be everyone's cup of tea. I'm so sure of that. Some of the episodes and the cases that came to the forefront were hard to watch. By the time I got halfway through this Kdrama, all the emotional strings in me were already bared beyond the stretch of my imagination.

What's this Kdrama about?

The storyline was inspired by a charity program which originally started in the Netherlands. It was majorly built around a charity program running in a Hospice hospital that grants the final wish of terminally ill patients.

One thing you can be sure of is that despite the dark side of each case they had to deal with, there was still a sufficient proportion of happy ending to each case. It was also the same when you broadly look at the storyline. Everyone got what they deserved... Whether happy or sad ending.

This is an A-lister for me and you can also add it to your watchlist if you are interested in going down an emotional rollercoaster about the dark and bright side of humanity.

Sometimes I get out of my comfort zone of investigation/sci-fi/action K-dramas and go after different stuff, I'm adding this one to my list for sure. 😄
